Which device is better for your TV?

Check resolution and HDR before buying
- A streaming stick cannot make a non-4K television display 4K. If your TV is 1080p, it can still show supported HD output, but 4K capability will not upgrade the panel.
- For HDR, confirm that the TV supports the relevant format and that the app and specific program offer it. Also check that you are using an appropriate HDMI input and TV settings.
- Roku identifies model 3820 as supporting 720p HD, 1080p Full HD, 4K Ultra HD, and HDR. Roku’s setup guide lists those supported resolutions.
Roku describes its stick as offering “stunning 4K picture quality” and “lifelike clarity” with Dolby Vision and HDR10+; that is Roku’s product-page wording, not an independent head-to-head test. Roku Streaming Stick 4K product page

Do you need Wi-Fi 6E for the Fire TV Stick 4K Max?
No. Wi-Fi 6E is a feature of the 4K Max, not a prerequisite for using it. It is most relevant if you have a Wi-Fi 6E-capable router and want the option to use its 6 GHz band. A Wi-Fi 6E label alone does not promise faster or more reliable streaming: router support, signal strength, interference, internet service, and the streaming source all affect results. Amazon also specifies Bluetooth 5.2 for this model. Amazon Fire TV support
How Roku’s long-range Wi-Fi design affects setup
Roku says the Streaming Stick 4K’s long-range Wi-Fi receiver is built into the supplied USB power cable. Its setup instructions warn that another cable may prevent the device from turning on. If the TV is wall-mounted or the cable run is awkward, plan to use the included cable rather than assuming a replacement will work. Roku setup guide

Which remote and voice assistant suit your household?
The Fire TV 4K Max includes an Alexa Voice Remote with TV controls; Roku includes a Voice Remote with TV power and volume controls. If you already use Alexa or prefer that voice-control ecosystem, Fire TV is the natural match. If Roku’s interface and remote style are more appealing, Roku may fit better. Compare the controls you will actually use, including voice commands and the ability to adjust TV power or volume from the included remote. Amazon specifications Roku product page
Which apps and content work on Roku versus Fire TV?
Start with a short list of must-have services and check their current availability for the exact device and your country before choosing. The product pages do not establish that every app is available in every region. Amazon says apps and games need to be compatible and available through its Appstore. Roku promotes both free and paid content, including The Roku Channel, but that does not guarantee availability of each service in your location. Amazon support Roku product page

Does 16 GB of storage make the Fire TV 4K Max a better buy?
Amazon lists 16 GB of storage for the 4K Max. That number can matter if you expect to install apps or games, but it is a device specification—not a statement of usable free space, how many apps will fit, or how well a particular app will perform. The cited Roku product and setup pages do not state a comparable storage figure, so there is no supported like-for-like storage comparison here. Amazon device specifications
Quick Recap
Check the physical setup before choosing
- Confirm HDMI access. Roku says the Streaming Stick 4K connects to an available HDMI port. Check that the port is accessible and that the TV’s input supports the capabilities you want to use. Roku setup support
- Plan power and cable routing. Make sure there is a practical route for power and enough space behind the TV. For Roku, use the supplied USB power cable because it contains the long-range Wi-Fi receiver.
- Consider placement and reception. A wall-mounted TV, nearby equipment, and the position of the router can affect the practical wireless setup. Neither Wi-Fi specification guarantees a particular signal or streaming result in your room.
- Verify the complete setup. Check TV resolution and HDR formats, the HDMI input, required apps in your country, and whether your router supports the wireless features you value.
Which streaming stick should you choose?
- Choose Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen, 2023) for Alexa-oriented controls, Wi-Fi 6E support that matches a compatible router, or its listed 16 GB storage. It also lists Dolby Atmos support.
- Choose Roku Streaming Stick 4K (model 3820) if you prefer Roku’s platform, want the included voice remote’s TV power and volume controls, or find the receiver-in-cable design useful for your room.
- Choose based on apps first if a particular streaming service is essential: verify it is available for the device and region you will use.
