For the BRAVIA X90J, a Sony Community moderator describes a service-menu sequence that may show total operating hours. It is model-specific community guidance, not a universal Sony TV method. For other models, check the model’s Sony Help Guide or operating instructions before trying any service-menu steps.
Check the model before trying the X90J sequence
Find the TV’s exact model number on its label or in its settings, then look up its model-specific documentation through Sony support. Sony says that Self Diagnostics steps can vary by model and software version. Its official instructions describe customer-facing diagnostics for basic setup and configuration; they do not establish that this feature shows lifetime operating hours. Do not confuse that ordinary diagnostics feature with the service-menu “Self Diagnosis” section mentioned in the X90J community instructions. Reported Sony BRAVIA X90J service-menu procedure
A Sony Community moderator described the following sequence for the X90J on July 25, 2025. It may not work on other models, software versions, or regions.
- Turn the TV completely off; do not leave it in standby.
- On the remote, quickly press Display (Info/Help), 5, Volume Plus (+), then Power to turn the TV on.
- In the service menu, look under Self Diagnosis. The moderator says the first number set, usually five digits, typically represents total operation hours. Treat that format and interpretation as community guidance, not a verified universal counter standard.
- Press Home or Power to exit the menu.
The instructions and warning come from a Sony Community answer about checking total usage hours on a BRAVIA X90J. The moderator cautions: “Do not change any settings in this menu, as it’s intended for technicians and incorrect adjustments can affect your TV’s performance.” Use the menu only to view the information; do not alter values or settings.

If the sequence does not work
Stop rather than trying other button combinations or changing service-menu settings. Sony’s documentation says menu steps vary by model and software version, and the X90J sequence is not confirmed as a general BRAVIA procedure. Check your exact model’s Help Guide or operating instructions, or contact Sony support. The community answer also recommends contacting an authorized service center if the procedure cannot be completed.

The reported figure is intended to represent total time the TV has been powered on. It is not established as a measure of viewer screen time, app use, or any other activity. Nor does an hours count alone establish a used TV’s condition or remaining lifespan.

Sony’s Eco Dashboard is not a substitute hours counter: it is available only on certain Android TV and Google TV models, and a TV without the dashboard does not support that feature. Sony manuals that describe operating-hour meters for professional media equipment apply to that equipment, not consumer BRAVIA TVs; their procedures and labels should not be transferred to a BRAVIA.
