Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteTo find a printer’s IP address, check its Network, Wireless, Ethernet, or Connectivity information screen. If the printer has no usable display, check its manufacturer’s app if it supports network details, or print a network configuration, information, or status report and look for “IP Address.” The exact menu names and report-printing steps depend on the model.
Check the printer’s screen first
- Make sure the printer is connected to the Wi-Fi or wired network whose address you need. The network address is useful only when the printer has joined an IP network. HP notes that a printer must be connected to a network before you can obtain its IP address (HP Support); Brother also identifies connection status as relevant when troubleshooting (Brother Support).
- On the control panel, open a menu named Network, Wireless, Ethernet, or Connectivity, then look for network information or an “IP Address” field. HP documents Network and Connectivity/Info menu examples, while Brother provides wired and wireless menu paths for the models covered in its instructions (HP Support; Brother Support).
Menu labels and button sequences are model-specific. If these names do not match your screen, use the instructions for the exact model rather than trying a sequence meant for a different printer.

If the printer has no convenient screen
Look in the manufacturer’s app
Open the printer in its official companion app and look for network or connection information. HP says its app can show Network Information; app availability and the displayed details vary by model (HP Support).

Print a network information report
Use the printer’s menu or model-specific instructions to print a network configuration, information, or status report. Find the “IP Address” field on the page. Manufacturers use different names for these reports, and the exact print steps depend on the printer. Epson directs users to its network status sheet or connection report for network details (Epson Support).

- UPC: 198828789662
- Weight: 10.450 lbs
A report can be especially helpful when the printer’s screen does not make its connection status clear: it may show whether the printer is connected and which network settings it has received.
Make sure you have the address for the connection you use
A printer may show separate details for Ethernet and Wi-Fi. Read the section for the interface actually connected to your network. Do not mistake a local network address for an address used by a separate direct connection such as Wi-Fi Direct; those are different connection contexts (HP Support; HP Support).

If the address is missing or looks wrong
Check the printer’s connection status before changing network settings. Confirm it has joined the intended Wi-Fi network or that its wired connection is active, then review the network status sheet or configuration report. Epson recommends checking the network status sheet or connection report and verifying cable and network settings (Epson Support).
- An all-zero address: Brother lists this as a possible sign that the printer has not obtained a usable address.
- An address beginning with 169.254 on a router or access-point network: Brother identifies this as a possible connection or address-assignment problem.
- An address outside your local network’s range: This can also indicate a mismatch or connection issue, but it is not a diagnosis by itself.
These are troubleshooting clues, not universal rules. Local address ranges depend on router settings and network design; do not assume a familiar home-network range is required. Brother notes that its examples can vary (Brother Support).

What you can do with the printer’s IP address
The IP address identifies the printer on an IP network. On supported HP printers, entering the network address in a web browser opens the Embedded Web Server, where printer information or settings may be available. Access and behavior depend on the model and connection (HP Support).
