What the different contact views tell you

Contacts can be stored on a SIM, in phone storage, or in an online account. A combined All contacts view may show entries from several locations together; it does not establish that a contact is on the SIM. Use the storage-location view or filter and select SIM to check that specifically.

If you do not see a SIM entry, first check that the list is not filtered to another account or location. Samsung’s guidance does not establish one universal reason the SIM filter may be absent. Menu availability and screens vary, so consult the support instructions for your phone’s model and software version if the option is missing.

Viewing contacts is different from importing or exporting them

Choosing a storage location only changes which contacts you see. Importing or exporting transfers contacts between locations. For phones using One UI 7 or later, Samsung documents Contacts > More options > Settings > Import contacts or Export contacts; this is a transfer route, not the SIM viewing route. Samsung also documents an older route through Menu > Manage contacts, followed by an import or export option and SIM. Labels vary by software version.

  • Slim, Portable & Always Ready - Lightweight and pocket-sized, this CAC card reader military slips right into your pocket. Ideal for professionals who need secure access or quick file transfers on the go—because your office is wherever you are.

Import from SIM when you want to copy SIM contacts into phone storage. Export to SIM copies contacts in the opposite direction. Samsung warns that SIM export may retain only names and phone numbers; other details can be lost, and long values may be truncated. A SIM also holds only a limited number of contacts, with no universal capacity stated in Samsung’s guidance. For moving a full contact list to another phone, Samsung recommends Smart Switch rather than relying on SIM storage.

Do not confuse a physical SIM with an eSIM

An eSIM is not the same contact-storage location as a removable SIM. Samsung says Galaxy devices running One UI 6.1 or later no longer support saving contacts directly to an eSIM. Its guidance on eSIM-related storage varies with Android version; see Samsung’s eSIM contact-storage notice.
