Google Play subscriptions are tied to your Google account and can renew automatically until you cancel. If you’ve been charged and you’re unsure what’s active, the quickest path is to find your subscriptions in Google Play and cancel from the same account.
This guide shows you exactly where to look and how to cancel on Android, iPhone/iPad, and the web—plus what to expect after cancellation, how refunds work, and what to do when the option to cancel is missing.

Why Google Play subscriptions can be confusing
Subscriptions can renew on a schedule (monthly, yearly, weekly) and may come from multiple apps like streaming services, VPN tools, or productivity apps. Even if you don’t use the app anymore, the subscription can keep charging until it’s canceled.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsAnother common issue: you might be signed into the wrong Google account on your phone, or the purchase was made on a different device. In that case, the subscription won’t show up where you’re looking.
#1 Best Overall
- No returns and no refunds on gift cards. Good for use on the US Google Play Store only. Terms apply - see below.
- Google Play gift codes can be used on the Google Play Store, the official app store for Android, to purchase apps, games, and more.
- To redeem, enter code in the Play Store app or play.google.com.
- Endless games to explore: Find and play old and new favorites – from mind-bending puzzles to epic quests and more.
- Just the app you’re looking for: Millions of apps means millions of ways to get things done, learn something new, and maybe even meet someone special.
Before you cancel: what you need to know
- You cancel in Google Play, not in the app. Most subscriptions use Google’s billing system, so cancellation must happen in Google Play settings.
- Be sure you’re signed into the right Google account. Your phone’s account picker can differ from the account used for the subscription purchase.
- Cancellation usually stops future renewals. You typically keep access until the end of the current billing period.
To avoid surprises, keep an eye on your next billing date after you cancel. That date is your “last day” to use the subscription at the current plan level.
How to find your Google Play subscriptions
Start by opening Google Play and going to your subscriptions page. From there, you can identify what’s active, what renews soon, and which app the subscription belongs to.
Check your Google account first
If you have multiple Gmail accounts, verify you’re logged into the same one used for the subscription. A mismatch is the #1 reason people “can’t find” a subscription they’re being charged for.

- Tap Payments & subscriptions.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Find the subscription you want to cancel and tap it.
- Tap Cancel subscription.

After you confirm, Google should display a status like Canceled and show the date your access ends. If you see “Paused,” “On trial,” or “Pending,” follow the specific prompts shown on that subscription card.

Cancel a subscription on iPhone or iPad
Even if you use iOS, the subscription is still managed through Google Play (Google account + Google billing). You can cancel from the Play Store website using Safari or a browser on your iPhone or iPad.
Step-by-step (iPhone/iPad via web)
- On your iPhone or iPad, open Safari (or any browser).
- Go to the Google Play Subscriptions page:
https://play.google.com/store/account - Sign in with the same Google account used for the subscription.
- Scroll to Subscriptions.
- Tap the subscription you want to cancel.
- Select Cancel subscription and confirm.
Because iOS doesn’t host the Google Play Store app, the web flow is the most reliable way to cancel directly under Google’s subscription controls.

Cancel a subscription on the web (Google Play Subscriptions page)
If you’d rather use a laptop/desktop or you can’t access the Play Store on your device, canceling from a browser is usually straightforward.
Step-by-step (browser)
- Open a browser and go to
https://play.google.com/store/account. - Sign in with the correct Google account.
- Find the Subscriptions area.
- Select the subscription name.
- Choose Cancel subscription.
- Confirm cancellation when prompted.
Web cancellation updates immediately in most cases. Still, give it a few minutes and refresh the subscriptions page if your status doesn’t change right away.
What happens after you cancel
Cancelling usually stops the next renewal while preserving access until the end of your current billing cycle. You should see the subscription state change from Active to Canceled (or similar), along with an end date.

Common outcomes you may see
- Access remains until the end of the period. Your app should keep working until the cancellation end date.
- No more renewals. You should not be charged again after the end date.
- Some services may not “turn off” instantly. They may continue premium features until the provider checks billing status on their side.
Refunds and charges: what you can do
Refunds are not guaranteed, but you can try depending on how recently you were charged and the service provider’s rules.

Try for a Play Store refund
- Open your browser and visit the Google Play payment history area (within your Google account).
- Locate the charge you want to dispute.
- Select the option to get help or request a refund for that purchase.
If your subscription was renewed and you believe it was an error, acting quickly improves your chances.
If you see a charge but can’t find the subscription
That’s often a sign of an account mismatch. Check all Google accounts you use, and verify the purchase method (card, PayPal, carrier billing) tied to the charge.
Troubleshooting when you can’t cancel
Sometimes the Cancel subscription button is missing or the subscription won’t display. Here are the most common causes and fixes.
1) You’re signed into the wrong Google account
This is the #1 fix. On Android, tap your profile icon inside Google Play and switch accounts. On iPhone/iPad or web, sign out and sign back in with the exact account that received the charge.

2) The subscription is managed by a different account
Family setups, shared devices, or a previous phone can cause purchases to land under a different Google account. Check other accounts, especially the one that was used when you first subscribed.
3) The subscription is through a different billing system
Most Google Play subscriptions appear in Google Play subscriptions. If the app claims it’s “not a Play subscription,” verify whether the plan was purchased inside the app using a different provider (rare for typical Play subscriptions, but possible).
4) Your device is blocking Play Store settings or not updating
On Android, try these in order:
- Update the Google Play Store app (Play Store itself updates it, but check for pending updates).
- Restart your phone.
- Open the subscription page again and refresh the screen.
- Try the same cancellation from a web browser to bypass UI glitches.
5) The subscription is already canceled
If you previously canceled, it may still show until the end date, but it should not renew. Look for wording like Canceled and the end date. If it says it’s active, continue troubleshooting.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Common mistakes that keep subscriptions active
- Uninstalling the app instead of canceling. Uninstalling does not cancel billing.
- Canceling the wrong tier. Some apps sell multiple plans (e.g., monthly vs yearly). Cancel each subscription you don’t want.
- Forgetting to cancel a free trial. Trials usually convert automatically. Cancel before renewal.
- Assuming device settings control billing. Billing is account-based, not device-based.
Alternatives if you no longer recognize the subscription
If you see a subscription you don’t remember, you still need to cancel it—even while you investigate.
Check purchase history and payment methods
Review your Google Play purchase history and identify which payment method was used. This helps you confirm the correct account and locate related subscriptions.

FAQ: Google Play subscription cancellation
How can I tell when my Google Play subscription will stop?
After you cancel, Google should show a cancellation status and an end date. Your subscription typically remains usable until that date, then stops renewing.
Can I cancel a Google Play subscription immediately for a refund?
Sometimes you can request a refund, but it’s not guaranteed. Refund eligibility depends on timing and Google’s policies for that purchase.
What if I don’t see the subscription in Google Play?
Confirm you’re logged into the correct Google account. Then try canceling from the web at https://play.google.com/store/account. If it still doesn’t appear, the subscription may be tied to a different account.
Do I need the app installed to cancel?
No. You can cancel from the Google Play subscription settings even if the app is uninstalled.
Will canceling stop charges for family members too?
Subscriptions are usually controlled per Google account. If a family member subscribed using their own account, you generally need to cancel from their Google Play subscription page.
Bottom Line
To find and cancel Google Play subscriptions, you only need access to the correct Google account. Use Google Play on Android, or use the subscription page at https://play.google.com/store/account from iPhone/iPad or a computer to cancel reliably.
If the cancel button doesn’t show up, assume an account mismatch first, then try the web method to bypass device-specific issues. Once canceled, verify the status and end date so you know when charges will stop.
