To find a page on an iPad, check the history in the browser where you opened it: in Safari, tap Show Sidebar > History; in Chrome, tap More > History. Each browser keeps its own history view, so a page visited in one will not appear in the other.
See your Safari history
- Open Safari.
- Tap Show Sidebar.
- Tap History to view visited pages.
If History is not visible, tap the Back button at the top of the sidebar and look again. These are the labels in Apple’s current iPad guide; menu labels or positions may differ in some iPadOS versions.

See your Chrome history
- Open Chrome.
- Tap More.
- Tap History.
Google Chrome Help says this view lists pages visited in Chrome during the last 90 days. If you are signed in and history sync is enabled, it can also show pages visited on your other devices. Google’s Chrome history instructions explain the view and its controls.

- You used a different browser. Safari and Chrome have separate history views. Check any browser you may have used; browsing in another app will not appear in either browser’s list.
- You used private browsing. Safari Private Browsing does not save those details in History, and Chrome does not record Incognito pages in its History. Apple’s private browsing guide also explains that private browsing details are not shared with your other Apple devices.
- The entry was deleted. Deleted pages are no longer shown in the browser’s History view.
- The entry is outside Chrome’s listed period or sync is off. Google documents a 90-day Chrome History view; pages from other devices appear when history sync is enabled for the signed-in Google Account.
Clearing history is different from checking it
Only clear history if you intend to remove entries from the browser view; it is not needed to find a page.

Clear Safari history
Open Safari’s History sidebar, tap More, choose Clear, select a timeframe, and tap Clear History. If Safari profiles are set up, choose one profile or All Profiles before clearing. Apple notes that clearing Safari history does not clear histories kept separately by websites or other apps. Apple’s iPad guide to browsing history describes the controls.
Delete Chrome entries or clear browsing data
To delete selected entries, go to More > History > Edit, select the entries, tap Delete, then Done. To clear data by time range and type, go to More > Delete Browsing Data. Google says the default time range is 15 minutes; select a different duration if that is not what you want. See Google Chrome Help for the steps.

What clearing history does not mean
Removing entries from a browser’s history view does not establish that records held independently by a website, another app, or elsewhere have also been removed. Apple specifically notes that clearing Safari history leaves histories kept independently by websites or other apps.
