Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteStandard PlayStation 5 offers a choice between a 30 fps-targeted, higher-fidelity Graphics Mode and a 60 fps-targeted Frame-Rate Mode that can be less consistent. Steam Deck reports show a more constrained experience: performance can fall below 30 fps, with reduced visual detail in demanding scenes. These findings are directional, not a controlled head-to-head test.
How performance compares
The PS5 version has two graphics modes with different targets. Steam Deck runs the PC version, and its results depend on the game build, settings, and test environment. The reports below come from different dates and testing conditions, so they cannot establish a precise performance gap between the two systems.

| Platform and evidence | Reported performance | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Steam Deck, Steam Deck HQ demo test, August 2024 | At 1280×720, Low settings, and FSR 3 Ultra Performance, Oliver Stogden reported around 30 fps only some of the time. Some particle- or depth-of-field-heavy cutscenes fell to around 20 fps or the teens; combat dipped into the mid-20s. | This was a pre-release PC demo test, not a measurement of every later build or Deck configuration. Read the 2024 Steam Deck HQ test. |
| Steam Deck, Steam Deck HQ test, September 2026 | Noah Kupetsky reported battles generally near 30 fps, traversal below 30 and as low as 18 fps, and some cutscenes as low as 13 fps. | This is one reviewer’s test and experience, not a universal result for all hardware or software builds. Read the September 2026 review. |
| Standard PS5, mode targets summarized by PSFoundry, updated 5 September 2026 | Graphics Mode targets 30 fps; Frame-Rate Mode targets 60 fps. PSFoundry reports that Frame-Rate Mode can drop below 60 during traversal and can reduce internal resolution to 720p in combat. | A target is not a guarantee of a locked frame rate. PSFoundry notes that some build details and values are unverified. Read PSFoundry’s mode summary. |
Which PS5 mode should you choose?
Graphics Mode
Choose Graphics Mode if image quality is the priority and a 30 fps target suits you. It is the higher-resolution option relative to Frame-Rate Mode, according to PSFoundry’s summary of technical analysis.

Choose Frame-Rate Mode if you prefer a higher frame-rate target. Its 60 fps target does not mean the game holds 60 fps in every scene: the cited summary reports drops during world traversal and reduced internal resolution in combat.

What the visual differences mean
Steam Deck HQ’s 2024 demo test described low-setting cutscenes as pixelated and blurry; its September 2026 reviewer also criticized the cutscene detail. The 2024 test used low settings and FSR 3 Ultra Performance, so it should not be treated as a direct visual comparison with PS5. No cited source compares the same scene, build, settings, and capture method across both systems.
PlayStation says the PS5 edition supports 4K resolution when connected to a compatible 4K TV or monitor. That is a platform capability, not proof that all gameplay renders natively at 4K. PlayStation also lists DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, along with shorter loading enabled by the console’s SSD. These are PS5 features rather than measured image-quality advantages over Deck. See PlayStation’s official PS5 product information.

Is Final Fantasy XVI Steam Deck Verified?
Steam Deck HQ’s September 2026 review reports that the game had received the Verified badge. The same reviewer described performance drops in traversal and cutscenes, so the reported badge should not be read as a promise of stable frame rates in every scene. The badge status and that reviewer’s observed performance are separate facts.

Updates and test context
Square Enix’s official PC update log lists version 1.01, dated 26 September 2024, as aiming to improve stability and fixing frame-rate drops under certain conditions. Version 1.02, dated 17 October 2024, adjusted shadow quality options and graphical-fidelity settings to improve overall PC performance, and addressed graphics-display and crash issues on selected hardware setups. The notes do not quantify a Steam Deck frame-rate gain, so they do not establish that the updates fixed Deck performance. Read Square Enix’s PC update notes.

What this comparison can—and cannot—tell you
- PS5 provides a clear mode choice: 30 fps-targeted Graphics Mode or 60 fps-targeted Frame-Rate Mode, with reported trade-offs in consistency and resolution.
- Steam Deck reports show that performance can drop below 30 fps and that low-setting cutscenes can look visibly compromised, but the findings are tied to individual tests and their dates.
- No available evidence here is a controlled, same-scene, same-build Deck-versus-PS5 benchmark; a percentage performance or sharpness advantage would therefore be unsupported.
- Square Enix lists the game for PlayStation 5, Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows via Microsoft Store. Check Square Enix’s platform list.
