He says the game is already playable and progressing close to its original milestones, and that supporting multiple platforms will not compromise its quality. Those are the director’s statements—not independent verification of the team structure, schedule, or performance on unreleased hardware.
What Hamaguchi says the separate unit does
In an interview published February 16, 2026, by AUTOMATON WEST, Hamaguchi said: “We have a dedicated unit within my team that handles porting work, and they operate separately from the team developing the third installment.”

He said the porting unit has been tuning those versions carefully. He trusts its work and supervises it from a distance, which he says lets him concentrate on the third game. That describes a separate workstream within his team; it does not establish that the porting unit is a different company or that the work is wholly independent of the main project.
What he said about development progress
Hamaguchi said the third installment was already playable and progressing close to the schedule milestones set when the project began. This is a director update, not an independently audited schedule or confirmation of a release date. Square Enix’s official Revelation page names the game and describes a final battle against Sephiroth, but the page material available here does not state a release date.

Why Switch 2 and Xbox Series S raise different porting questions
The interview responds to concerns that supporting more platforms—or lower-spec hardware—could affect the final game’s graphics. Hamaguchi said the multiplatform decision would not lower its quality. That is his assurance as series director; there are no independently published tests of Revelation running on Switch 2 or Xbox Series S to verify performance or visual parity.
He named four factors developers have to account for across platforms:
Rank #2
- The award-winning FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE* retells the original story up to the escape from Midgar, with breathtaking visuals, fast-paced gameplay, and additional story elements. This RPG delivers unforgettable characters, a powerful narrative, and a hybrid battle system that blends real-time action with strategic, command-based combat. It also includes FF7R EPISODE INTERmission, a side story starring Yuffie Kisaragi that offers a fresh perspective running in parallel to Cloud’s journey.
- STUNNING VISUALS - Explore Midgar like never before with stunning visuals and richly detailed environments that bring the city’s layered, industrial districts to life, all while staying true to the spirit of the original game.
- DYNAMIC COMBAT WITH STRATEGIC DEPTH -The innovative battle system combines strategic command-based gameplay with fast-paced action. Seamlessly switch between characters, harness the power of materia, summon iconic creatures, and unleash devastating limit breaks.
- ICONIC CHARACTERS, UNFORGETTABLE STORY - Follow Cloud Strife, an ex-SOLDIER turned mercenary, as he joins Avalanche to take on the Shinra Electric Power Company. Cloud and his allies Barret, Tifa, and Aerith are pulled into a battle that will decide the fate of the planet.
- EXPANDED CONTENT - FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE offers quests, mini-games, and missions set in expanded areas of Midgar. Encounter new characters and experience exciting content that adds even more depth to the story.
- CPU: processing capacity available for the game’s simulation and other workloads.
- GPU: capacity for rendering, including the visual workload of a scene.
- RAM: memory available to hold assets and working data.
- Storage media: how the system’s storage affects asset delivery and loading.
Hamaguchi described Xbox Series S as a frequent porting challenge because it has less memory than some other platforms. He said Switch 2 has ample memory “in that respect.” He also said the team optimizes each platform individually, so a constraint on one system does not, in his account, force the same restriction on the others.
How the team scales assets
Hamaguchi said the team creates assets for high-end PC environments first, then reduces and tunes them for individual systems. In his interview, he said texture sizes and mesh loading can differ by roughly 1.5 to 2 times, and polygon counts by more than three times. Those are his descriptions of development differences, not independent measurements of Revelation or a promise that every platform will look or perform identically.
Rank #3

Rebirth’s releases do not confirm Revelation’s platforms
Square Enix confirms that the previous game, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, is available on Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S, as well as PC and PS5, in its Final Fantasy Portal announcement and Rebirth product page. That is evidence about Rebirth, not a platform list for Revelation.
| Game | What the cited official material establishes |
|---|---|
| Final Fantasy VII Rebirth | Available on Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PS5, according to Square Enix’s portal announcement and product page. |
| Final Fantasy VII Revelation | Square Enix’s official page gives the title and story description. The captured page content does not state platforms, release date, or physical-edition details. |
Square Enix’s Japan release notice for Rebirth on Switch 2 and Xbox likewise concerns the earlier game; it does not establish where the third installment will launch.
