A clean filter preview does not guarantee a seamless full-resolution export: an editor may preview a reduced image but process the export in separate strips or tiles. For a neighborhood filter such as blur or sharpen, missing neighboring pixels at a tile edge can make the calculations differ and expose a boundary. That is a plausible explanation described for one editor, not a confirmed cause for every app or image. Start by inspecting the exported file at 100% and checking whether the lines repeat at regular intervals.
Why can a clean preview turn into a seamed export?
Preview and export may use different render paths and different pixel grids. A preview scaled down to fit the screen can hide pixel-level differences that are visible in the full-size file. A Photoshop Community Expert makes this point in a discussion about export differences and recommends viewing at 100% for pixel-level inspection: Adobe Community discussion.

One technical account matching this symptom describes a reduced-resolution preview and an export filtered in strips. With a neighborhood filter, each output pixel depends on pixels around it. If a strip is filtered without enough surrounding context, pixels at its cut edge can be calculated from a different neighborhood than pixels elsewhere. When the strips are reassembled, the processing boundary may show as a seam. The account’s proposed remedy is to include overlapping pixels around each strip, filter the extended strip, then trim the overlap before stitching. This explains one reported case; it does not establish that every editor uses this method or that it is the cause of your artifact. Lank_M’s account on DEV Community.

- Open the exported file in an image viewer and inspect it at 100%. Look closely at the line. A preview scaled to fit the window can conceal or create apparent pixel-level differences.
- Compare preview and export at identical pixel dimensions. If the app offers a full-size preview, use it; otherwise compare the exported image with the source at the same zoom and dimensions. Note whether the line remains in the file at native resolution.
- Look for repetition. Lines recurring at regular intervals, especially if they align with likely strip or tile boundaries, are a reason to ask the editor’s developer whether full-resolution filtering is tiled and whether it uses overlap or “halo” pixels around each tile.
- Record the conditions. Write down the editor and version, filter and settings, image dimensions, export format, and exact steps. If the cause is unclear, send the developer the original and exported files along with those details.
Seam, scaling artifact, or gradient banding?
A narrow, repeated line and broad tonal bands are different clues. A boundary-shaped line that recurs in the image is consistent with a processing-boundary question, particularly for blur, sharpen, or another filter that samples neighboring pixels. Broad bands across a subtle gradient may instead involve bit depth, compression, display, or upload processing. Adobe Community discussion describes JPEG’s 8-bit conversion and compression as possible contributors to banding; Glass says its upload processing can cause banding in subtle gradients. Neither source establishes compression as the cause of a narrow seam. Adobe Community discussion; Glass Help.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If the defect looks like gradient banding, export a lossless version and compare it with a JPEG at the same dimensions and viewing scale. If only the JPEG shows the bands, compression is a relevant lead; that comparison alone does not prove what caused a separate line-shaped seam. If the image passes through an upload service, inspect the downloaded or processed version too, because upload processing may change the result.
Could resampling or interpolation be involved?
Scaling changes how pixels are rendered, so a reduced preview can mask differences that emerge at full size. Apple documents interpolation as a configurable image-rendering behavior with none, low, medium, and high quality options: Apple’s NSImageInterpolation reference. ImageMagick’s documentation also explains that resampling filters can produce artifacts: ImageMagick resampling filters. These references make scaling worth checking; they do not diagnose a specific editor’s seam. Do not assume interpolation is responsible just because preview and export differ—the exported pixels and the editor’s processing path matter.

What to send the editor developer
- The unmodified original and the exported image.
- The editor name and version, operating system, filter and settings, and exact steps that reproduce the problem.
- The canvas dimensions and export format, including whether a lossless export changes the defect.
- A screenshot or crop showing the seam at 100%, plus whether similar lines recur at regular intervals.
- A direct question: does the full-resolution filter run in tiles or strips, and does it include overlapping pixels around each boundary before stitching?
These details let the developer distinguish a file artifact from a display-scale difference and investigate tile-boundary handling without presuming the cause.
