The FiiO DM15 AKM is a portable CD player that can also work as a USB DAC and Bluetooth transmitter. Its unusually broad set of headphone, line, and digital outputs makes it flexible for a compact disc-based setup. But the available evidence for this review is FiiO’s specifications and product descriptions—not independent listening, runtime, or reliability testing—so sound quality and real-world battery life remain unverified.
What the FiiO DM15 AKM does
FiiO describes the DM15 as a portable stereo CD player, but its listed functions extend beyond playing discs. It supports CD playback, USB DAC mode, and Bluetooth transmitter mode; FiiO also presents it for digital transport use and says it can rip CDs to external storage. These are different ways to use the same unit, not evidence that it replaces every dedicated DAC or music player.

- CD player: Plays audio CDs through its headphone or line outputs.
- USB DAC: Connects to a USB source and converts digital audio for output. FiiO specifies support up to 384 kHz/32-bit PCM and native DSD256.
- Bluetooth transmitter: Sends audio wirelessly to a compatible receiver, such as headphones or a speaker. FiiO lists SBC, aptX, aptX HD, aptX LL, aptX Adaptive, and aptX Lossless; the receiving device must support the codec used.
- Digital transport: FiiO describes USB/CD digital transport functionality, allowing digital output to an external device. The precise connection and output configuration should be checked in FiiO’s documentation before integrating it into a system.
- CD ripping: Copies CD tracks as WAV files to external storage, subject to the format and capacity guidance below.

DM15 AKM vs. DM15 R2R: they are different versions
The AKM model is not the R2R model under another name. FiiO identifies the DM15 AKM with two AKM DAC chips: its overview calls them AK4493S, while its parameter page lists AK4493SEQ ×2. The separately named DM15 R2R uses FiiO’s proprietary R2R DAC implementation. Reviews or measurements of the R2R version therefore do not establish how the AKM version sounds or performs.

The AKM name identifies the DAC implementation, not a proven sound signature. FiiO’s promotional sound descriptions are vendor claims; without independent listening tests of this variant, it would be misleading to call it warmer, more detailed, or better than the R2R model. Outputs and connection options
The connector selection is one of the DM15 AKM’s most practical strengths on paper. FiiO lists separate headphone and line-output roles, plus a shared 3.5 mm optical/coaxial output. Because the 3.5 mm socket can serve different purposes, verify its selected role before connecting equipment; do not assume every 3.5 mm connection is an analog headphone or line signal.

USB DAC limits
FiiO specifies USB DAC playback up to 384 kHz/32-bit PCM and native DSD256. These are maximum supported formats, not a promise that every computer, phone, application, driver, or source file will negotiate them automatically. Check compatibility with the source device and software if high-rate playback is essential.

Bluetooth codec compatibility
The transmitter codec list includes SBC, aptX, aptX HD, aptX LL, aptX Adaptive, and aptX Lossless. A listed codec only helps when the receiving headphones or speaker also supports it and the connection selects it. No independent range or connection-stability testing is established here, so a specific wireless distance or performance claim cannot be made.
CD ripping and storage
FiiO says the player can rip tracks while listening and save them in WAV format to external storage. The company specifies FAT32-formatted storage and recommends a Type-C flash drive no larger than 32 GB for ripping or local firmware updates. That capacity recommendation is FiiO’s stated guidance for those functions; it is not a general claim about all storage the device can use for every purpose.

Battery life and charging
FiiO publishes separate figures of six hours for CD playback and nine hours in USB DAC mode. These are manufacturer figures from different test conditions, not independent everyday-use results.

Actual runtime can differ with settings and use; FiiO’s figures should not be read as a guarantee for a typical listening session. FiiO says the unit supports QC3.0, PD2.0, and PD3.0 fast charging, and gives about two hours for charging under PD3.0. The specifications do not establish a charging time for every charger or power source.

Size and portability
FiiO lists approximate dimensions of 144 × 137 × 25.5 mm, excluding the feet and knob, and a weight of approximately 471.5 g. That is portable in the sense that it is a self-contained player, but its footprint and weight are substantial compared with small pocket audio players. Factor in space for discs and any cables or external storage required by your setup.
What this review can—and cannot—conclude
FiiO’s specifications establish a capable feature set: disc playback, USB DAC and Bluetooth transmitter modes, balanced and single-ended headphone outputs, analog line outs, digital output, and WAV ripping. They do not establish sound quality, noise performance, durability, wireless range, or typical battery life through independent testing. The technical components listed by FiiO include dual AK4493SEQ DACs, two SGM8262 op-amps, a GD32F305RET6 system-on-chip, a QCC3086 Bluetooth chip, and an SPV5048 USB chip; component names alone are not a substitute for measured or listening results.
The DM15 AKM is most compelling for someone who wants physical CD playback alongside several ways to connect headphones, a stereo system, digital gear, or a USB source. Someone choosing specifically for sonic character, long unplugged use, or proven reliability should seek independent testing of the AKM version rather than extrapolating from the R2R model or from chip branding. Current price, stock, and regional availability are not established by the specifications cited here.
