Figma MCP for OpenCode: Setup Steps and Access Limits

Add Figma’s remote MCP endpoint to OpenCode with one command, then check authentication and confirm that Figma permits the hosted connection.

You can add Figma’s remote MCP endpoint to OpenCode with one command, but the command alone does not guarantee access: Figma says its hosted server is available only to clients listed in its MCP Catalog, and the sources available here do not establish whether OpenCode is currently eligible.

Configure the Figma MCP endpoint in OpenCode

From your OpenCode project, run:

opencode mcp add figma --url https://mcp.figma.com/mcp
opencode mcp list

The first command adds a remote server named figma using Figma’s published endpoint. The second shows the configured MCP servers and their status. OpenCode documents --global as the option to make a server available across projects:

opencode mcp add figma --url https://mcp.figma.com/mcp --global

These commands configure the OpenCode side; they do not establish that Figma will authorize the connection. OpenCode’s remote MCP configuration uses Streamable HTTP and supports optional OAuth, headers, and disabled status settings. For this URL-only setup, the CLI command is sufficient; do not add headers or credentials unless your setup specifically requires them. OpenCode’s MCP servers documentation describes the CLI and manual configuration.

Authenticate if OpenCode requests it

OpenCode uses OAuth by default for remote MCP servers. If opencode mcp list shows needs authentication, open OpenCode and run /mcps, select the Figma server, and complete the sign-in flow. The documentation does not establish the exact Figma-specific consent screens, so the labels and prompts may differ.

Check whether Figma permits the hosted connection

Figma’s documentation says only clients listed in its MCP Catalog can connect to the hosted MCP server, and directs developers building another client to contact their account team about registration. The reviewed documentation does not establish that OpenCode is listed or approved. Before treating the setup as ready, check Figma’s current catalog and registration requirements and confirm that your account can use the service. Figma’s remote-server setup guide explains the endpoint and client restriction; its MCP Catalog provides the client context.

Choose remote or desktop access

Option What it requires When it may fit
Remote server OpenCode configured with https://mcp.figma.com/mcp, plus Figma authorization and eligibility as a listed client. Figma recommends the hosted option for most users; it does not require the Figma desktop app.
Desktop server Figma desktop app, a Figma Design file, Dev Mode, and the MCP server enabled in the app. The local endpoint documented by Figma is http://127.0.0.1:3845/mcp. Figma describes this path as intended for specific organization and enterprise needs. It depends on local app and file context; it is not a universal fallback for hosted-client eligibility.

Figma says the remote service has broader features than the desktop server. Compare the paths against hosted-client eligibility, whether you need local app and file context, and whether the desktop server’s stated scope suits your organization. See Figma’s desktop-server setup instructions for the local workflow.

What the Figma integration is designed to provide

Figma describes its MCP server as providing agents with structured design context such as components, variables, layout data, FigJam content, and Make resources. Its documentation also describes generating code from selected frames and writing native content to the Figma canvas. These are Figma-described capabilities, not independently verified results for an OpenCode connection; output quality and access depend on a working, authorized integration. See Figma’s MCP introduction.
