Reconnect options retry a connection; they do not restore audio, choose the right stream, or create sound. Then check that your command does not disable audio and maps the audio stream you intend to send.
Diagnose the input, mapping, and output separately
The missing audio can originate at three different points: the source may no longer provide audio after reconnecting; FFmpeg may not select the available audio stream; or output options and encoding may fail to carry it through. Continuing video alone does not prove that audio returned. Without the command, FFmpeg version and build, input protocol, and logs from before and after reconnect, the specific cause cannot be identified.

- Compare input streams. Capture the full startup and reconnect logs, including the input stream descriptions. Check whether an audio stream appears in the input after reconnect and compare it with the pre-reconnect listing.
- Check the command’s audio selection. Search for
-an, which disables audio recording on the output. Review every-mapoption and confirm that the selected audio stream exists in the post-reconnect input. FFmpeg’s command documentation describes automatic stream selection, manual mapping, and audio disablement. - Inspect output mapping and encoding. If the post-reconnect input still lists audio and the command maps it, read the output stream mapping and encoding logs next. The available evidence does not identify whether a remaining failure is in FFmpeg’s output, the source, or YouTube.
- Check reconnect flags against the input protocol. Only consider HTTP reconnect options when the input actually uses HTTP. The flags documented for HTTP do not establish that the same options apply to another protocol.
What stream mapping can—and cannot—fix
FFmpeg can select streams automatically based on what the output format supports, or you can specify streams with -map. Explicitly mapping audio helps only if the intended audio stream is present in the input. For example, -map 0:a? makes the audio mapping optional: it can let an output proceed when no audio stream exists, but it does not bring missing audio back. Review the official stream-selection documentation before changing a production command.
Do not assume a fixed stream index is correct after reconnecting. Verify the input’s post-reconnect stream listing and match the mapping to that evidence.

Reconnect settings are protocol-specific
FFmpeg’s HTTP protocol implementation documents options for reconnecting after disconnections, EOF, network errors, selected HTTP errors, and when handling streamed inputs. These settings control retries, not audio selection or recovery. See the HTTP protocol source and confirm the options supported by your installed version and actual input protocol.
In the retrieved current HTTP source, reconnect, reconnect_at_eof, reconnect_on_network_error, and reconnect_streamed default to false. The declared maximum reconnect delay defaults to 120 seconds, the total delay limit to 256 seconds, and respect_retry_after is enabled. reconnect_max_retries is unset, meaning unlimited retries by default in that source declaration. These are HTTP implementation defaults, not universal FFmpeg defaults: builds and versions can differ, and the settings do not apply automatically to non-HTTP inputs.

- The input protocol and type of input URL.
- The relevant logs and input stream listings from both before and after reconnect.

Stream mappinglines and output encoding logs.
Those details distinguish a missing source stream from a mapping or output problem. The title alone is not enough to prescribe a safe command edit.
