Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCrashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteFor a prerecorded 1920×1080, 50 fps video, start with H.264 video, AAC stereo audio, real-time file pacing, and a 2-second keyframe interval: 100 frames at 50 fps. YouTube does not publish a specific H.264 bitrate recommendation for 1080p50; 17 Mbps is a practical starting inference from its 1080p60 recommendation, not an official 50 fps figure. Test the stream before relying on it.

-f flv "rtmps://INGEST_URL/STREAM_KEY"
-rereads the file at real-time speed instead of sending it as fast as the machine can process it.-c:v libx264selects the H.264 encoder;-r 50requests a 50 fps output. Check the source frame rate first: forcing a different rate can duplicate or drop frames.-g 100sets a 100-frame GOP, which is 2 seconds at 50 fps.-keyint_min 100and-sc_threshold 0are intended to keep keyframe spacing consistent.-b:v 17M,-maxrate 17M, and-bufsize 34Mform an example constrained-rate setup. They do not guarantee that every FFmpeg build behaves exactly like a platform CBR preset; verify the resulting stream.-pix_fmt yuv420pis a common SDR output choice. Do not apply it blindly to HDR material: inspect the source’s color characteristics and use an intentional color conversion workflow if needed.-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ac 2encodes stereo AAC at 128 kbps. The-ar 48000value is an example; YouTube lists 44.1 kHz stereo among its general audio recommendations, so preserve or choose a source-appropriate sample rate rather than resampling without reason.-f flvselects the FLV muxer used for the RTMP workflow. Prefer RTMPS when the ingest endpoint and your FFmpeg build support it.
FFmpeg options and available encoders can vary by build and operating system. This is a command template, not a configuration independently tested against a particular machine, network, or account. FFmpeg documents its format and codec options at ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg-formats.html and ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg-codecs.html.
Choose bitrate without treating 1080p50 as a published preset
YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends 14 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p30 and 17 Mbps at 1080p60. Its table has no 1080p50 row. Therefore, 17 Mbps is a conservative starting inference for 50 fps, not YouTube’s stated recommendation for that exact frame rate. The cited figures are from YouTube’s guidance accessed in 2026; the page does not identify a publication year. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

Motion and image detail affect how much bitrate a particular file needs. Your stable upload capacity also matters: leave headroom rather than planning to use all available upstream bandwidth. Run a representative test and adjust based on YouTube’s stream-health messages and the actual result, rather than assuming the example rate suits every source.
Set the stream key and validate the input
- Create or select the YouTube live stream. In YouTube Live Control Room, copy the current stream URL and stream key into the FFmpeg destination. YouTube treats the key like a password: keep it private, and do not paste a real key into public logs or examples. Follow the current instructions at YouTube Live encoder settings.
- Inspect the video and audio before encoding. Confirm frame dimensions, frame rate, audio tracks and whether the file is SDR or HDR. Make output choices that match the source and intended delivery; avoid an unplanned HDR-to-SDR conversion.
- Run a private or unlisted test. Use picture movement and audio similar to the real stream. Check the upload bitrate and read YouTube’s stream-health messages before the event. YouTube’s guidance says, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”
- Monitor the live feed. If it becomes unstable, check stream health, the ingest URL and key, and whether reliable upload capacity can sustain the configured bitrate before changing encode settings.
Keyframes, frame rate and codec choices
YouTube recommends a 2-second keyframe frequency and says not to exceed 4 seconds. At 50 fps, two seconds equals 100 frames; four seconds would be 200 frames. The command uses the recommended 100-frame interval. YouTube’s encoder guidance supports up to 60 fps and lists RTMP/RTMPS, H.264, H.265 and AV1, but codec choice also depends on encoder availability and ingest compatibility. For a straightforward SDR FFmpeg setup, H.264 is the example used here.

YouTube’s advanced recommendations for H.264 include progressive scan, two B-frames, one reference frame, CABAC, square pixels and Rec. 709 for SDR. The template requests progressive-style common output defaults, but does not explicitly set every advanced encoder parameter; verify your encoder’s resulting stream if those constraints matter. The official guidance is at YouTube’s encoder settings page.

Troubleshoot common failures
- FFmpeg connects but the stream is unhealthy: compare the configured bitrate with stable upstream capacity, then inspect YouTube’s stream-health messages. Test with representative motion and sound.
- YouTube does not receive a feed: verify that the ingest URL and key are the current values for the selected live stream. Treat the key as a password.
- The output looks jerky or has repeated frames: compare the source frame rate with the requested 50 fps. A forced output rate can duplicate or drop frames if the input differs.
- Color or brightness is wrong: check whether the source is HDR or SDR and whether pixel-format or color conversion is altering it. The sample command is intended for ordinary SDR, not an automatic HDR workflow.
- The measured rate does not behave like CBR: the listed FFmpeg rate-control options form a constrained-rate configuration; do not assume the output exactly matches YouTube’s CBR label. Confirm with a test stream and your FFmpeg build.
- The command reports an unavailable encoder or option: check that the installed FFmpeg build includes the requested libx264 encoder and supports the chosen options.
