Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteFor a 720p H.264 YouTube Live stream from an Indian VPS, start with 30 fps, CBR video at 6 Mbps, AAC stereo at 128 Kbps and 44.1 kHz, and a two-second keyframe interval. Send the stream over RTMPS on port 443 using the exact ingest URL and stream key from YouTube. These are practical starting settings—not a guarantee that a particular VPS can encode or deliver the stream reliably.
Recommended 720p settings
YouTube’s current encoder table lists the same H.264 video-bitrate range for 720p30 and 720p60: 3 Mbps minimum and 8 Mbps recommended. A 6 Mbps target is a reasonable starting point within that range. YouTube recommends keyframes every two seconds and says not to exceed four seconds. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance also recommends testing upload bitrate from the streaming connection.

FFmpeg command for a prerecorded 720p30 file
This template loops a local file at playback speed, scales it to 1280×720, encodes 30 fps H.264 and stereo AAC, and sends it to YouTube. It has not been tested on a particular VPS.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i input.mp4
-vf "scale=1280:720,fps=30,format=yuv420p"
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -tune zerolatency
-b:v 6000k -minrate 6000k -maxrate 6000k -bufsize 12000k
-g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100 -ac 2
-f flv 'RTMPS_INGEST_URL/STREAM_KEY'
- Replace
input.mp4with the path to your source file. - Replace
RTMPS_INGEST_URL/STREAM_KEYwith the exact RTMPS ingest URL and stream key shown in YouTube Live Control Room. Keep the key private; do not publish a real key in a script, screenshot, or article. - Run the command in a shell on the VPS. The
-reoption reads the file at its native playback rate;-stream_loop -1repeats it indefinitely. The-g 60and-keyint_min 60values produce a two-second GOP at 30 fps.

For 720p60 instead
Change fps=30 to fps=60, and change both GOP values from 60 to 120 so the keyframe interval remains two seconds. Keep the 6 Mbps starting target only if it suits the visual content and YouTube’s health feedback; the published H.264 bitrate recommendation is the same for 720p30 and 720p60, but that does not ensure identical visual quality or encode load.
For a live capture or network input
The example command assumes a prerecorded file. Adapt the input options for a capture device or network source; omit -stream_loop when the input is not a file, and use -re only where appropriate for that input. FFmpeg supports file, pipe, network, and capture-device inputs. If automatic stream selection chooses the wrong tracks, use explicit stream mapping as described in the FFmpeg documentation.

Before relying on the VPS
- Check real-time encoding capacity. Confirm the selected FFmpeg build, preset, source, and VPS can sustain the intended frame rate without falling behind. There is no universal vCPU or RAM figure established for this workload.
- Test outbound speed from the VPS. Measure the actual VPS network path and check that stable upload capacity exceeds the combined video and audio bitrate, with headroom for variation. YouTube recommends running a speed test to test upload bitrate. YouTube Help
- Use YouTube’s exact RTMPS details. Get the stream-specific URL and key from Live Control Room or the Live Streaming API, use port 443, and protect the key. YouTube documents RTMPS endpoint and port requirements in its ingestion guide. RTMPS is RTMP over an encrypted SSL connection, according to the FFmpeg protocol documentation.
- Test representative content. Check a stream with the same kind of motion and audio you plan to use, then watch YouTube’s stream health and messages while it is live.
- Act on health warnings. If YouTube flags bitrate, audio, or GOP configuration, inspect the status details and adjust the stream. The YouTube Live Streaming API exposes health status and configuration issues.
Choosing 30 fps or 60 fps
For talking, devotional, or mostly static video, 30 fps is a sensible first configuration. Fast movement may benefit from 60 fps, but it increases encoding work and network use. Choose based on the content and what the VPS can sustain, rather than assuming the same nominal bitrate will produce the same result in every case. YouTube lists the same 3 Mbps minimum and 8 Mbps recommended H.264 bitrate for both 720p frame rates. YouTube Help
What an Indian VPS does—and does not—guarantee
A server’s Indian location by itself does not establish sufficient CPU capacity or a reliable route to YouTube’s ingest service. YouTube’s published settings specify encoding and connection guidance; they do not establish a particular Indian provider, VPS plan, resource size, or performance level for this FFmpeg workload. Validate the specific region and plan you intend to use before depending on it.

Troubleshooting
- YouTube reports an unstable or low bitrate: Run an upload speed test from the VPS and check for variation or insufficient headroom. Reduce the video bitrate if the connection cannot sustain the combined audio and video rate.
- The VPS cannot keep up with 30 or 60 fps: Check whether encoding is falling behind. Try a less demanding frame rate or encoding preset, then test again with representative content; no fixed VPS size can be prescribed for every source and build.
- The stream does not connect: Verify the stream key and exact RTMPS URL copied from YouTube, confirm port 443 is reachable, and ensure the output is sent in the expected FLV format. YouTube’s RTMPS guide documents the ingest requirements.
- GOP or keyframe warning: At 30 fps, retain a 60-frame GOP for two seconds; at 60 fps, use 120 frames. YouTube recommends two-second keyframes and no more than four seconds. YouTube Help
- Audio warning or missing audio: Check that the input contains an audio track and that FFmpeg is encoding AAC stereo at the intended sample rate and bitrate. If automatic track selection is wrong, explicitly map the desired audio stream.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a continuously looping prerecorded YouTube stream rather than learning to operate FFmpeg on a VPS, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos and playlists in the cloud: upload a recording, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay powered on at home; it supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the monthly plan is $9.99 per month. Start a StreamNeo free day.
