Choose Fedora Workstation for Fedora’s ready-to-use GNOME desktop and a live USB image you can try before installing. Choose Fedora Everything when you want to select packages during setup and can connect to Fedora’s software repositories over the internet or through a local mirror. If your main goal is a desktop other than GNOME, check Fedora’s Spins first.
What’s the difference?
These downloads are not two equivalent desktop editions. Workstation is a curated Fedora desktop edition built around GNOME. Everything is an online installer that lets you select software packages during installation; it is not a preassembled desktop experience like Workstation.

Fedora Workstation
Fedora describes Workstation as its GNOME edition, with desktop utilities and app installation through Fedora repositories or Flathub. Its live ISO can be started from a USB drive so you can try the system before installing. See Fedora Workstation downloads and the Workstation overview.
Fedora Everything
Everything is Fedora’s online installer. It allows package selection during setup, but the software repository is too large to bundle with the installer. Fedora therefore says you need a working internet connection or a local mirror to retrieve packages. See the Fedora Everything download page.

Workstation vs. Everything at a glance
| Decision point | Fedora Workstation | Fedora Everything |
|---|---|---|
| What you get | Curated GNOME desktop edition | Network installer with package selection during installation |
| Try before installing | Live image can be run from USB | Not presented as a live desktop image |
| Network or mirror for installation | The download page presents a live ISO; it does not state that network access is required for the base installation. | Required to retrieve packages: use internet access or a local Fedora mirror. |
| Best fit | You want a ready desktop and do not want package selection to be the main installation task. | You know what package set you want and are comfortable with an online installation workflow. |
| Alternative desktop environments | Workstation uses GNOME. Fedora also offers preconfigured desktop Spins. | Package selection allows customization, but Fedora’s cited pages do not establish this as the easiest route to a particular desktop. |
Which installation is right for you?
Choose Workstation if you want a desktop ready to use
- You want Fedora’s standard GNOME desktop rather than assembling a package set during installation.
- You want to try Fedora from a live USB before deciding whether to install it.
- You prefer a curated starting point and are happy to add or remove apps afterward. Fedora documents installing apps from its repositories and Flathub.
Choose Everything if package selection is the point
- You have a particular package selection in mind for installation.
- You can provide working access to Fedora’s repository, either through an internet connection or a local mirror.
- You are comfortable making installation choices instead of starting with the standard Workstation desktop.
Choose a Spin if you mainly want a different desktop
If you know you want a desktop environment other than GNOME, Fedora publishes Spins preconfigured for alternatives such as Xfce, Cinnamon, MATE, i3, and LXQt. Check the Fedora Spins page for the current list; availability can change between releases. Package customization in Everything may be possible, but the cited official pages do not establish it as the simplest way to get each desktop.

Fedora describes Workstation versions as receiving updates for approximately 13 months. The Workstation download page also gives a general recommendation of 40GB of disk space and 4GB of RAM to install and run most Fedora variants, adding that doubling those amounts might provide a better experience depending on use. Treat these as general guidance from that page—not a minimum requirement for every Everything installation or workload.
