Automatic job application tools typically collect your resume and profile details, process them to find or complete applications, and send some of that information to employers or application platforms when you submit. AI and browser automation can add other data flows. The exact fields, staff access, retention, and controls vary by service, so a resume upload should be treated as sharing the information inside it—not just storing a file.
What information do auto-apply tools collect?
To match jobs and fill application forms, a service may collect contact details, a resume or CV and extracted text, work and education history, skills, profile links, job preferences, reusable screening answers, and records of your activity or application progress. It may also process optional or sensitive self-identification answers if you save them or direct the service to use them.
Operational information can include account and subscription details, usage, IP address and device or browser signals, error logs, application status, and submission confirmations. Each service sets its own categories and retention periods; the policies of Glever, HelpMeApply.ai, and AutoApplier describe their respective services, not a universal industry standard (Glever; HelpMeApply.ai; AutoApplier).
How can AI use your resume and answers?
AI features may parse a resume, compare profile details with job descriptions, tailor application documents, or draft answers. That can involve sending relevant text from your profile or resume, a job description, or an application question to an AI provider.

What the named providers say
- Glever says that a question and relevant profile or resume context may be sent to its server and then to Anthropic. It says it does not send an entire profile for every request.
- HelpMeApply.ai names OpenAI and Google Gemini. Its policy says relevant CV or profile portions and job descriptions are sent, optional demographic data is excluded from AI providers, and its AI providers are not permitted to train on the data under enterprise terms.
These are statements in the companies’ policies, not independent security audits. The fields sent and protections described may depend on the feature, settings, and current policy. HelpMeApply.ai also cautions that “AI output can be wrong,” so review generated text for accuracy before it goes into an application.
What can a browser extension or automation agent see?
Browser access depends on the specific product and feature. AutoApplier says that when its agent navigates supported job sites, it may process page content, forms, screenshots, browser events, session information, and application progress. HelpMeApply.ai describes a narrower cookie check by its extension: it reads certain authentication cookies in the browser to determine sign-in status and says it does not transmit or store cookie values. Those descriptions should not be generalized to other extensions.

Before enabling an extension or agent, inspect its current browser permissions and policy. Pay particular attention to which sites it can access, what happens to session or cookie information, and whether access is limited to the moment you activate automation.
Where does your information go when an application is submitted?
A submitted application may include your identity and contact details, resume and other documents, work and education history, and screening answers—including answers selected or drafted with AI. Depending on the application flow, recipients can include the employer, a recruitment platform, a job website, or an applicant tracking system.

After submission, the recipient’s own terms and privacy practices govern its copy. HelpMeApply.ai says it cannot retract or delete an application from an employer’s system on your behalf. Deleting your account with an auto-apply service therefore does not necessarily remove material already delivered to an employer or platform.
Who can review or submit applications?
Automation does not always mean that only software handles an application. Glever says its personnel can review queued applications before submitting them for a user. With its Apply For Me feature, staff may see applications for postings the user did not individually select. Its in-app autofill workflow instead leaves the final submission to the user. Check the workflow you intend to use: review access and approval requirements can change the practical level of control you have.

How long is data kept, and what does deletion cover?
Retention varies by service and data category. HelpMeApply.ai states that account, profile, and CV data remain for an active account; account data is deleted within 30 days after account deletion, subject to legal retention; diagnostic logs are kept for 90 days; and analytics data for 14 months. These are HelpMeApply.ai’s stated periods only and should not be assumed to apply to other providers.
Account deletion and downstream deletion are separate questions. Ask what the service removes from its own systems, what it must retain for legal reasons, and what it can do about copies already sent to an employer or application platform.

What to check before uploading a resume or turning on auto-submit
- Review the data categories. Find out whether the service stores extracted resume text, reusable answers, activity records, or sensitive self-identification information—not only the original file.
- Trace AI use. Identify the named AI providers, which fields each feature sends, and what the policy says about model training. Treat no-training and data-minimization assurances as claims made by the named service for the stated feature.
- Check human review and approval. Determine whether staff can inspect applications, whether the tool can select postings you did not choose, and whether you approve each final submission.
- Inspect browser access. Read the extension’s site permissions and its explanation of page, form, session, and cookie handling.
- Find retention and deletion terms. Look for storage location, named processors, retention periods by data type, and exceptions to deletion.
- Understand the point of no return. Confirm which recipients receive an application and whether the service can help withdraw or delete it after submission.
