As of October 4, 2026, C.A.M.P. Pets are the established home-base pets, while World Pets are a companion feature Bethesda says is planned for December 2026 and is still being tested. Bethesda’s stated goal for World Pets is to let a pet travel and fight alongside you; the original C.A.M.P. pet system keeps pets at your C.A.M.P.
How are World Pets different from C.A.M.P. Pets?
The main difference is where the pet can go and its role. C.A.M.P. Pets stay around your base and use designated furniture. World Pets are being developed as adventure companions that can follow you and take part in combat.

What can World Pets do?
Bethesda describes World Pets as companions that players can summon through the Pip-Boy and direct through interactions or a command wheel. The September 18, 2026 PTS notes also describe pet experience, leveling, passive effects, commands and ping behavior. What do C.A.M.P. Pets do now?
Bethesda’s original notes describe cats and dogs placed using pet-spawning furniture, with designated furniture for idle activities. They state that a pet follows its owner around the C.A.M.P. but does not follow into the world. Bethesda’s wording was explicit: “C.A.M.P. That is the useful baseline for distinguishing the systems: the original pet is part of the home-base environment, while World Pets are designed as companions outside it. Later updates may affect details of the established system.

Is World Pets available in the live game?
Not according to the official information available as of October 4, 2026. Bethesda’s September 2026 roadmap lists World Pets for December 2026, and its September 18 PTS article documents ongoing testing. Will existing C.A.M.P. Pets become World Pets, or will you need another unlock?
Bethesda’s cited World Pets and roadmap descriptions do not establish whether existing pet entitlements will carry over, whether an additional purchase or unlock will be required, or how ownership will work between the two systems. The descriptions confirm the intended companion role, but not the final acquisition or conversion rules. It is safest not to assume either that current pets automatically become World Pets or that you must buy them again.
