To tame a wild creature in Fallout 76’s legacy C.A.M.P.-guard system, equip Animal Friend at rank 3 and have 3 Charisma. Then check random-scene encounter locations for a lone creature with a tame interaction. These spots are not guaranteed pet spawns: encounters are random, so you may need to revisit locations. Use a recently updated location map rather than assuming older hotspot lists are still accurate.
What you need to tame a wild creature
- Animal Friend, rank 3: Bethesda Support says this rank can give you a chance to tame an animal and send it to your C.A.M.P. when your Charisma is high enough. Bethesda’s Animal Friend support page specifies that taming requires 3 Charisma points.
- A suitable encounter: Search random-scene encounter locations and look for a lone creature that offers a tame interaction. The encounter must produce a tameable animal; visiting a particular spot does not guarantee one.
- Time for the journey: After taming, the creature walks to your C.A.M.P. Stay online until it arrives. Bethesda warns that disconnecting before then can make it disappear.
Bethesda lists Animal Friend’s rank-based pacification chances as 25%, 50% and 75%. Those figures concern pacifying creatures; they are not published odds of successfully taming one.

Where to look for taming encounters
Start with a refreshed encounter map
A community location guide updated on April 28, 2026, says map changes and expansions made older encounter maps obsolete. Its author provides a newly numbered map and screenshots, and notes that each location can produce many encounter outcomes, only some of which are tameable. Check the April 2026 updated taming-location map and confirm the spot in-game. The available guide text does not enumerate every pin, so there is no reliable basis here for reproducing a complete pin list or ranking locations by spawn odds.
Treat older hotspots as leads, not a current ranking
A 2020 community post recommended checking random “Scene” locations in the Savage Divide, Mire and Cranberry Bog. It named the northeast corner near the sunflower, Berkeley Springs Station, South Mountain Lookout and Cranberry Glade as favored stops. These are historical player suggestions, not verified current best locations; compare them with the refreshed map before making a route.

No current measured encounter rates establish one location as objectively best. For practical searching, prioritize spots shown on the newer map that are convenient to revisit, and consider the route’s safety and how readily a newly tamed creature can reach your C.A.M.P.
How to search and bring the creature home
- Equip Animal Friend rank 3 and confirm 3 Charisma. A community guide advises equipping the perk before entering the area around an encounter location; that timing tip is community guidance, not an additional requirement stated by Bethesda Support.
- Visit a mapped random-scene encounter spot. Check the location in-game and look for a lone creature with a tame interaction. Other encounter scenes can appear instead, so leave and try again later if there is no eligible animal.
- Use the tame interaction when it appears. Do not mistake a pacification chance or a hostile creature’s presence for proof that it can be tamed.
- Remain connected while it travels. Let the creature reach your C.A.M.P. before logging out or disconnecting; Bethesda says it can disappear if you leave before arrival.
Only one tamed animal can guard a C.A.M.P. at a time.

Legacy taming and World Pets are different systems
Legacy taming sends a wild encounter creature to guard your C.A.M.P. Bethesda’s September 30, 2026 roadmap described a separate World Pets feature planned for December 2026: C.A.M.P. Pets becoming companions that can adventure with players, level up and respond to commands such as Stay, Follow, Protect and Kill. The roadmap does not say that the legacy wild-creature taming system was removed. Its planned timing and feature description should not be confused with the requirements for taming a random encounter creature.
