There is no officially verified best PC graphics preset for Fallout 76. Start with your current settings, change one option at a time, and keep a change only if it improves play on your own system. On Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PS5 Pro, Bethesda says the native versions target 60 FPS; that is a target, not a promise of a locked frame rate in every scene.
Start with the right version on console
If you play on Xbox Series X|S or PS5, check your platform’s store for the native Fallout 76 version and install it. Bethesda says these versions require redownloading the game. Its September 2026 release notes state that the native Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PS5 Pro versions target 60 FPS. Bethesda does not describe that target as a guarantee for every area or situation. Do not look for an in-game “Performance Mode” switch based on these specifications: the cited Bethesda material describes the native versions’ targets and capabilities, not a setting with that name.
What the platform specifications mean
Bethesda lists different output resolutions across console models. These are platform specifications, not a measured comparison of image quality or performance in every scene.

VRR and your display
Bethesda lists variable refresh rate (VRR), capped at 60 FPS, for Xbox Series X|S and PS5|Pro when used with a compatible display. VRR is a display compatibility feature; it is not a claim that the game will render at a higher frame rate. A VRR-compatible TV or monitor is optional, and only relevant if your console and display support the feature.
How to tune Fallout 76 on PC
Bethesda’s published settings guide explains where options are and what several do, but it does not provide a tested graphics preset, a ranking of settings by frame-rate cost, or verified FPS gains for particular changes. A useful approach is controlled troubleshooting rather than copying a supposedly universal “best” configuration.
- Record a baseline. Note your current settings and when performance feels poor. Compare in a similar situation after each adjustment; different hardware and scenes can behave differently.
- Open the settings menu. From the main menu, open Settings before selecting a character. In game, open the map, use the Menu command, then navigate to Settings, as described in Bethesda’s gameplay and accessibility guide.
- Change one relevant option. Adjust a single visual setting, then play long enough in a comparable situation to judge whether it helped. Changing several options at once makes it harder to identify what mattered.
- Keep or revert the change. If the result is not noticeably better, restore the original value and test a different option. Do not assume that a setting is a performance bottleneck without observing an improvement on your PC.
This process is a cautious way to diagnose your own setup, not a benchmark-backed Fallout 76 optimization recipe. The official material cited here does not establish precise PC values, a universal configuration-file tweak, or a guaranteed FPS increase. Avoid treating third-party configuration downloads as Bethesda-endorsed advice.

Use settings for visibility and comfort, too
Performance is not the only reason to adjust the menu. Bethesda’s September 2025 guide documents display and accessibility options including depth of field, field of view, crosshair, general and dialogue subtitles, conversation-history size, floating markers, and marker draw distance. It also lists controls such as look sensitivity, controller vibration, and controller aim assist, plus visual-effect toggles.
Choose these options according to what helps you see, read, or control the game comfortably. The guide does not rank them by performance impact, so do not assume that changing a particular accessibility or visibility option will raise frame rate.
