The Fairphone Gen 6+ is a plausible phone to keep for seven years if you value repairability and long software support—and are comfortable replacing parts yourself when needed. Fairphone says it will provide software support through 2033 and at least seven Android OS upgrades. Those are commitments, not proof that the phone will remain fast, intact, or supported in practice for every year of that period.
What the Fairphone Gen 6+ offers for long-term ownership
Fairphone lists the Gen 6+ with 12 GB of RAM and a Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor. Do not confuse it with the Fairphone Gen 6, which has 8 GB of RAM and a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 processor. The manufacturer’s Gen 6+ product page lists the Gen 6+ at €649 and says software support runs through 2033.

For a seven-year plan, that support window is a strong reason to consider the phone. Fairphone’s Gen 6 FAQ promises at least seven Android OS upgrades and eight years of software support in total. The same FAQ reported Android 16 availability as of March 16, 2026. These commitments do not establish how the phone’s performance or battery will hold up over time.
Can you replace the Fairphone battery yourself?
Yes. The Gen 6+ has a removable 4415 mAh battery, and Fairphone lists 12 user-replaceable parts, including the battery, display, USB-C port, and back cover. Fairphone says the battery can last up to two days; that is a manufacturer estimate, not an independently measured result over long-term use.

Fairphone’s battery replacement guide says a Torx T5 screwdriver is needed to access the spare parts and provides the replacement steps. This makes battery wear more manageable than on a phone that requires professional service for a battery swap, but DIY work still means following the guide and obtaining the correct replacement part.
How warranty and update cadence affect the plan
Fairphone lists a five-year warranty for the Gen 6+. The company’s warranty terms describe a complimentary three-year extension for the Gen 6; check current eligibility, registration requirements, geography, and exclusions rather than assuming the extension applies automatically.

Fairphone’s Android Enterprise information describes monthly security updates for about three years, followed by bi-monthly updates from August 2026 until the end of software support in August 2031. This enterprise cadence description is distinct from the broader consumer support commitment through 2033; it should not be read as a promise of monthly updates throughout the full consumer support window.

Fairphone models five-year total costs of €798.85 for the Gen 6+ and €1,394 for an industry average on its product page. The company says its industry repair-price inputs came from three manufacturers’ EU websites, collected July 28–31, 2025, with shipping excluded.

This is Fairphone’s own modeled comparison, not an independent cost study, and it covers five years rather than seven. It does not establish what replacement parts will cost or whether they will be in stock locally over your ownership period. The €649 purchase price is the manufacturer’s listed price; your final cost depends on your market and any repairs or accessories you need.
Important trade-offs before choosing it
- Repairability requires some willingness to act. Replaceable parts are most useful if you are willing to follow repair instructions or find a service provider when something breaks.
- Long support does not guarantee long-term speed. Fairphone’s stated update commitment does not show how well the Gen 6+ will handle your apps several years from now.
- IP55 is not waterproofing. Fairphone lists IP55 protection, but that rating should not be treated as protection for immersion in water.
- Spare-part availability and future prices are uncertain. The current product information does not establish local stock, future replacement prices, marketplace availability, or third-party accessory compatibility. Confirm that any battery or accessory is specifically compatible with the Gen 6+; Gen 6 and Gen 6+ configurations should not be assumed interchangeable.
Fairphone also says Android Auto works with stock Fairphone Android. Its FAQ says Android Auto generally does not work on /e/OS because that operating system removes the proprietary Google services it depends on.

Is the Fairphone Gen 6+ worth keeping for seven years?
It is a reasonable candidate if your priority is a phone designed for repair, with a replaceable battery and a stated support window that reaches 2033. The case is less convincing if you want independent evidence that this specific model will last seven years, do not want to handle repairs, or need assurances about future parts stock and pricing. The phone launched in 2025, so seven years of real-world longevity have not yet been demonstrated.
