Check service status first, then work through your platform, account, and network in that order. The message alone does not identify one cause or one universal fix.
1. Check EA and platform service status
Before changing settings at home, check EA’s server-status page for the game and platform you use. Also check your platform’s official service-status information. Status can change, so look when the error occurs rather than assuming the service is up or down.

If the relevant game service is down or undergoing maintenance, router changes on your end will not restore it. Wait for the service owner to resolve the issue and check its official status updates. Some older games have had their online servers shut down; if you play an older title, confirm that its online service is still supported.

2. Restart the game and check for updates
Close the game fully, reopen it, and restart your PC or console if the problem persists. Check for a game update and install any available update before trying again. These are low-risk first steps, but instructions for a specific error code can differ by game.

3. Rule out a platform or online-play issue
If EA’s service is available, check whether your platform’s network service is working and whether the game or mode requires an active online-play entitlement on that platform. Requirements vary by title, platform, region, and mode, so do not assume the same subscription rule applies everywhere. Follow the platform’s own support instructions for checking service status, subscriptions, and cache or restart steps.
If other online services on the same device also fail, that points toward a platform or local connection problem rather than an EA-only issue. It is a useful clue, not a definitive diagnosis.

4. Check your EA Account
An account issue can block online play even when your internet connection is working. EA says banned or suspended accounts cannot play online; a deactivated or deleted account, or an account already in use, can also prevent access. Check your EA Account status and any messages from EA before changing network settings or creating another account.
5. Test your home connection
Restart the router
Turn off the router, unplug it, wait about a minute, then reconnect it and allow it to restart. Check that it has a stable signal and is positioned where your device can connect reliably. If you are unsure how to manage your router safely, consult its instructions or your internet provider.

Compare Wi-Fi with a wired connection
If you are playing over Wi-Fi, connect your PC or console to the router with an Ethernet cable, if the device and router have compatible ports. EA Help says, “Hardwired connections can be much more reliable than wireless ones.” That is general advice, not a guarantee that a wired connection will fix a particular error. Treat it as a way to check whether Wi-Fi is involved, not as a remedy for an outage or account restriction.
Consider DNS only if simpler checks point to it
If name-resolution problems seem likely, a DNS change may be worth considering. EA names Google DNS and OpenDNS as third-party options, but does not operate them. DNS and other advanced router changes can affect your connection settings; use reliable instructions or ask your ISP for help rather than changing settings at random.

6. Match the exact error to the game
Look up the full error message or code in the official support guidance for your specific game and platform. Wording varies: you may see “Unable to connect to the EA servers,” “You have lost your online connection,” or, in Apex Legends, “Unable to connect [code:clock].” Include the game title, platform, and complete code when searching for help or contacting support.

Follow the code-specific instructions for the title rather than applying an Apex fix to another EA game.

7. Get help if the error remains
If service status is normal and the relevant platform, account, update, and connection checks have not resolved the problem, contact EA Help’s connection troubleshooting support or use the official forum for your game. For a platform service, entitlement, or account issue, contact the platform’s support team. Provide the exact message or code, game, platform, and when the problem began; avoid sharing passwords or other sensitive account details.
