ASUS ZenScreen OLED MQ16FC Review: A Lightweight Second Screen with OLED Color

The ASUS ZenScreen OLED MQ16FC pairs a lightweight 16-inch OLED panel with 16:10 workspace and flexible positioning, but its 60 Hz limit, glossy finish and lack of speakers may not suit everyone.

The ASUS ZenScreen OLED MQ16FC is a strong portable second screen if you value OLED color, a taller 16:10 workspace and easy positioning more than high refresh rates or built-in audio. Its 16-inch, 1920 × 1200 panel tops out at 60 Hz, and its glossy surface and brightness limits are worth weighing before you buy.

What the MQ16FC is best at

The MQ16FC is built for adding screen space to a laptop setup away from a desk. Its 16:10 aspect ratio provides more vertical room than a 16:9 display at the same width, which can mean less scrolling in documents, web pages and work apps. The OLED panel and 95% DCI-P3 color-space rating are appealing for vivid media and general creative work, while the 60 Hz limit makes it a conventional productivity display rather than a high-refresh gaming screen.

ASUS specifies 1920 × 1200 resolution, 300 cd/m² typical brightness, 100,000:1 typical contrast, 1 ms GtG response time and a maximum refresh rate of 60 Hz. Those are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results. ASUS’s product specifications identify the model as a 16-inch OLED monitor.

Portable design and positioning

At 0.68 kg (1.50 lb), and measuring 35.9 × 23.3 × 0.9 cm (14.13 × 9.17 × 0.35 in), the monitor is designed to travel with a laptop. These figures are from ASUS’s Japanese regional specification page for the MQ16FC-J, so check the exact model suffix and local listing. ASUS Japan’s MQ16FC-J specifications also describe the aluminum enclosure, integrated kickstand and 1/4-inch tripod socket. Tom’s Hardware notes rubber feet that help when the display is positioned vertically.

  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

The built-in kickstand avoids relying on a separate cover as the only support, and the tripod socket gives you another mounting option when a table or laptop stand is crowded. A glossy screen is the main practical design trade-off: reflections can be distracting near windows or under direct lighting.

Picture quality and brightness

OLED is the MQ16FC’s defining advantage over a basic portable IPS panel: it is rated for a high typical contrast ratio and wide color coverage. ASUS lists 95% DCI-P3. In Tom’s Hardware’s testing, the monitor measured 153.2% DCI-P3 and 216.2% sRGB coverage; coverage percentages from that review reflect its measurement method and are not ASUS ratings or a substitute for a calibrated professional-display assessment. Tom’s Hardware’s review praises the color and build.

Brightness depends on the selected picture mode. ASUS lists 300 cd/m² typical brightness, while Tom’s Hardware measured 140 nits in Standard mode and 271 nits after switching to User Mode. These are different kinds of figures: one is the manufacturer’s typical rating, the others are a reviewer’s measurements in specific modes. Even the higher review measurement is a consideration if you regularly work outdoors or in a brightly lit room, particularly because the screen is glossy.

Ports, power and host compatibility

The regional ASUS specification lists two USB-C ports with DisplayPort Alt Mode, one mini-HDMI port and a headphone jack. It also lists up to 65 W power pass-through, and ASUS Singapore describes two-way pass-through. That maximum is a monitor specification, not a promise that every connected laptop will charge at 65 W—or charge at all through the monitor.

For USB-C video, the source device must support video output over USB-C (DisplayPort Alt Mode). A USB-C connector by itself does not establish that capability. The reviewed documentation does not establish compatibility with every computer, console or phone, so confirm the host’s video-output support and charging requirements before relying on a one-cable setup. Mini-HDMI is an alternative video input, but the host and cable still need to provide a compatible signal.

ASUS Singapore says auto rotation is available through DisplayWidget Center. Feature availability and compatibility can depend on the system and regional product configuration. The ASUS Singapore product listing describes two-way power pass-through and auto rotation.

What’s missing and what to consider

  • No built-in speakers: Use the laptop’s speakers, headphones or a separate audio device. The monitor does have a headphone jack.
  • 60 Hz maximum: Suitable for ordinary work and video, but not the right choice if a high-refresh display is a priority.
  • 1920 × 1200 resolution: The 16:10 shape adds vertical workspace, but the resolution is lower than some higher-resolution portable displays.
  • Glossy finish and brightness: Reflections and the measured output in Standard mode may be limiting in bright environments.
  • OLED longevity: Techzine Global found it performed well during its review period, but long-term burn-in protection can only be judged over time. OLED burn-in should not be treated as impossible. Techzine Global’s review positions it as a mobile second screen rather than a high-refresh laptop-panel replacement.

Model context, price and included items

Techzine identifies the ASUS MB16NCG as a 16-inch 16:10 alternative with higher resolution and refresh rate and 65 W pass-through, but without OLED. It also names the battery-equipped, 16:9 MB16AMTR. These are contrast points, not a complete market comparison or a current ranking. Techzine referenced a €279 price in its 2026 review-era context; that is not a universal or guaranteed current price.

Pricing, stock, warranty and package contents differ by region and seller. At access time in 2026, the ASUS Singapore store showed S$469 including GST and a three-year warranty; that listing is specific to Singapore and should not be treated as a global offer. Tom’s Hardware’s US review showed offers from multiple retailers, but its listing is not a live price guarantee. Check the seller’s current price, exact model suffix, local warranty and condition.

The Singapore ASUS package list includes two USB-C cables, a power adapter, a mini-HDMI-to-HDMI cable, a sleeve, a tripod socket kit and a microfiber cloth. The Japanese regional specification lists those accessories as well. Confirm the contents of the particular regional package rather than assuming every market includes the same items. ENERGY STAR’s listing identifies the MQ16FC as a 16-inch OLED display with native 1920 × 1200 resolution and 300 cd/m² maximum luminance; it also reports 15.27 kWh/year total native energy consumption at 115 volts, 4.59 W on-mode, 0.21 W sleep-mode and 0.1 W off-mode power. Those energy figures are listing-specific, not a prediction of an individual user’s electricity use.

Who should buy it?

The MQ16FC makes sense for laptop users who want a light, color-rich second screen with more vertical room than a 16:9 portable monitor, plus flexible kickstand and tripod positioning. It is less suitable if you need integrated speakers, a matte panel for glare control, consistently high brightness, a higher refresh rate or a higher-resolution workspace. Before buying, verify that your host can send video through the connection you plan to use and that the monitor’s power arrangement fits your laptop.
