If F1 25 steering feels twitchy, tune the setting that matches the symptom: use controller linearity for overly sensitive stick movement near center, deadzone only for stick drift, and saturation when the available stick travel does not match the steering lock you need. On a wheel, adjust force-feedback strength, damping and surface effects separately. Treat published numeric ranges as third-party starting points, not official or universally best settings, and change one value at a time.
What changed in F1 25 steering and force feedback?
EA says it tuned controller steering rate to feel more consistent at different car speeds. It also says track conditions and each car’s dynamics are intended to make grip limits easier to read. For wheels, EA reviewed force feedback across a wide range of models, aiming to improve aligning-torque information and communicate when oversteer begins. These are descriptions of design goals, not a promise that every player or device will feel smoother automatically. EA’s F1 25 deep dive also notes that rapid steering flicks are less effective on race days: aggressive inputs can heat tyres and increase wear, so smoother technique matters alongside settings.

Make a controller feel less twitchy
Controller calibration is available under Controls, Vibration & Force Feedback, in the controller calibration section. Menu wording or placement can vary by platform or patch. The values below are independent-guide suggestions, not EA recommendations. The guide’s ranges are useful as starting points, but your stick, platform and preference determine the final calibration.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Steering Deadzone: correct drift, not sensitivity
Deadzone ignores movement around the stick’s center. If the car steers when you are not touching the stick, begin around 1–3 and use the lowest value that removes unwanted drift. Raising deadzone to fix twitchiness can create a delay before steering registers; it does not reshape how responsive the rest of the stick travel feels.

Steering Linearity: soften small movements
If tiny movements around center cause abrupt steering, increase Steering Linearity gradually. The independent guide suggests 20–30 as an initial range. Greater linearity reduces initial sensitivity and makes steering build more progressively through the stick’s travel. If the response starts to feel sluggish, back it down rather than compensating with unrelated settings.
Steering Saturation: match stick travel to steering lock
Saturation controls how much stick travel is needed to reach full steering lock. If you reach too much lock with little travel, lower it slightly; if you cannot reach enough lock, raise it slightly. The guide suggests 0–5 as a starting range. This setting addresses range, not drift or twitchiness near center.

Retest one change at a time
- Open Controls, Vibration & Force Feedback and find controller calibration.
- Set deadzone only if the stick drifts, starting with the minimum value that stops unwanted input.
- Raise linearity in small increments if steering is too sensitive around center.
- Adjust saturation only if the available stick travel does not produce the steering lock you need.
- Test on a familiar track in Time Trial or another repeatable session, keeping conditions consistent. This independent-guide method helps isolate changes; it does not guarantee faster laps.
Set up a wheel without chasing one “best” preset
Wheel force feedback depends on the hardware and its setup. EA’s supported-device information is platform-specific, and some listed PC wheelbases or rims have default presets that map controls and set force feedback. Check the current supported-device list for your platform and model; compatibility and a default preset are separate details, and neither establishes that a device is best for everyone.

Confirm the game recognizes the wheel, then calibrate wheel and pedal travel in the game and verify that inputs register smoothly. A legacy Codemasters PC help page discusses separate pedal axes, but its instructions cover older F1 titles, not F1 25’s menus; use it only as general background, not as a current step-by-step path. Codemasters’ older PC controls guidance is not evidence that F1 25 uses the same labels or settings.

Adjust strength, damper and effects for different reasons
Force-feedback strength changes overall force. Damper adds smoothing or resistance. Surface and kerb effect sliders control how much detail from those events you feel. An independent guide offers broad optional starting suggestions of roughly 55–75 for strength overall, and 45–60 for its named direct-drive examples; these are not official settings or tested recommendations, and they should not be treated as a target for every wheel. The guide advises lower strength on direct-drive hardware because output varies by device. Its wheel-settings guidance is best treated as a description of possible starting points, not a benchmark.
- If forces feel excessively heavy, reduce strength.
- If you are trying to address oscillation or harshness, adjust damper cautiously; it is not a substitute for fixing hardware, driver or connection problems.
- Change surface and kerb effects according to how much road detail you want, rather than using them to solve steering-range problems.
Test in a repeatable session
Once inputs are calibrated, test in a familiar, repeatable session and change only one feedback slider at a time. Settings can alter feel, but they cannot correct aggressive steering technique, tyre behavior, a hardware-driver issue or a defective device.

Choose between a controller and a wheel by fit, not a speed promise
EA publishes compatibility and selected preset information, not comparative performance testing. A wheel is not inherently faster or smoother for every player. Before choosing or troubleshooting a setup, compare the factors that affect your own use:

- Setup effort: see whether the device has an EA-listed default preset, and whether its inputs still need calibration.
- Input and feedback: consider stick travel versus wheel range, and whether you want physical force and road cues.
- Practical fit: account for comfort, available space and cost; compatibility does not mean you need to buy new hardware.
EA lists the PS5 DualSense Wireless Controller as supported, for example, but that is a compatibility fact rather than a purchase requirement. Check EA’s list for current platform-specific details.
When settings are not the main problem
If the steering remains unpredictable after calibration, separate input issues from driving and grip behavior before changing more values. A stick that registers movement untouched points to drift and deadzone; abrupt response only near center points to linearity; insufficient or excessive lock for the travel available points to saturation. On a wheel, inconsistent recognition or inputs that do not register smoothly call for checking support, calibration and hardware setup before adding force-feedback changes. If the controls are responding as expected but the car still loses grip, EA’s guidance makes smooth steering technique relevant too: settings cannot make rapid flicks harmless to tyres.
