ezshell7.dll is a Magic Desktop application file, not a normal Windows system DLL. If Windows says ezshell7.dll is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, repair or remove the Easybits Magic Desktop installation that requested it rather than downloading a loose DLL.
The safest fix is to uninstall Magic Desktop or EasyBits For Kids, restart Windows, and reinstall Magic Desktop from the official Easybits product site if you still need it. If the error appears only during startup and Magic Desktop is no longer installed, remove the orphaned startup reference instead.

This file is not identified as a Microsoft Windows component. Do not copy it into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64. Application DLLs normally belong in the application’s own installation layout, and placing a third-party DLL in a Windows system folder can create version conflicts or increase security risk.
A 64-bit edition of Windows can still run a 32-bit Magic Desktop program. Do not choose a 64-bit replacement simply because Windows itself is 64-bit.
Error messages you may see
The wording varies by Windows version and by the program that tried to load the file. Possible messages include:
- “The program can’t start because ezshell7.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “There was a problem starting ezshell7.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “Error loading ezshell7.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because ezshell7.dll was not found.”
- “ezshell7.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
- “Cannot find ezshell7.dll.”
- “Cannot register ezshell7.dll.”
A “specified module could not be found” message does not always mean the named DLL itself is absent. It can also mean that a dependency required by the DLL is missing, damaged, incompatible, or blocked.
Fix 1: Repair Magic Desktop through its official installer
Time needed: 10 to 20 minutes, plus the download time
This is the most likely solution when Magic Desktop is still installed or when the error began after an interrupted update, cleanup, or uninstall.
- Press Windows key + I to open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Search for Magic Desktop, EasyBits For Kids, or another Easybits entry.
- If an entry offers Modify or Repair, try that option first.
- If no repair option is available, select the program’s three-dot menu and choose Uninstall.
- On Windows 10, select the program and choose Uninstall.
- Follow the uninstall wizard.
- Restart Windows, even if the wizard does not require it.
- Check whether the old EasyBits for Kids folder remains in its previous application location. Do not delete a folder until you have confirmed that it belongs to Magic Desktop and does not contain files needed by another program.
- If you still want the software, download the current installer from the official Magic Desktop website or account area.
- Install it normally, using an administrator account if Windows requests permission.
- Restart Windows again and open Magic Desktop.
The current product supports Windows 10 and later, but an older 8.2.0.35 component may belong to a legacy release. Do not mix an isolated old DLL with a newer installation. Use the installer intended for the Magic Desktop version you are installing.
How to tell whether this worked
The fix worked if Magic Desktop opens without the missing-file dialog and the error does not return at the next sign-in. If the program still fails, note the complete new message. A new error naming a different DLL may indicate that the installation has additional missing files or dependencies.
If Magic Desktop is no longer wanted, do not reinstall it merely to restore this file. Continue to the startup-entry fix below.
Fix 2: Check whether antivirus removed the file
Time needed: 5 to 10 minutes
A security scan or definition update may have quarantined an application file. Reinstalling from the official vendor is safer than restoring an unknown copy from quarantine.
- Open the Start menu.
- Type Windows Security and open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections and look for an entry mentioning Magic Desktop, Easybits, or
ezShell7.dll. - Expand the detection and inspect its original path, detection name, and date.
- If the original path clearly belonged to a trusted Magic Desktop installation, record the details.
- Prefer uninstalling and reinstalling Magic Desktop from its official source.
- Restore the quarantined file only if you have validated the installation source and are confident the detection is a false positive.
Microsoft warns that allowing a detected file can expose the device if the file is actually malicious. A filename alone does not establish that ezShell7.dll is safe or unsafe. Check its location, digital signature when available, installation source, and the antivirus detection before making a decision.
How to tell whether this worked
After an official reinstall, Protection history should no longer show the same file being repeatedly removed. If Defender quarantines the freshly installed file again, stop restoring it manually and perform a full Microsoft Defender scan. Contact the software vendor if the detection appears to be a false positive.
Fix 3: Remove an orphaned Magic Desktop startup entry
Time needed: 10 to 15 minutes
A common startup scenario involves ezRecover.exe, a legacy Magic Desktop recovery component. Public software inventories associate ezRecover.exe with Magic Desktop, and Microsoft Q&A includes reports of it requesting ezShell7.dll during Windows startup.
This usually means an old Magic Desktop component is still registered to run while its DLL has been removed or damaged. The exact startup mechanism can differ between computers, so inspect the entry before deleting anything.
Check Startup apps
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Startup apps on Windows 11, or the Startup tab on Windows 10.
- Look for entries named Magic Desktop, EasyBits, EasyBits For Kids, or ezRecover.
- Right-click the entry and choose Disable.
- Restart Windows.
Disabling the entry prevents it from launching but does not remove the underlying application. If the error disappears and you no longer use Magic Desktop, uninstall any remaining Magic Desktop or EasyBits entry from Settings.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Check Task Scheduler
- Open Start and search for Task Scheduler.
- Open the desktop application.
- Select Task Scheduler Library.
- Review tasks with names containing Magic Desktop, EasyBits, or ezRecover.
- Click a suspicious task and inspect its Actions tab.
- Disable the task only when its action clearly points to the obsolete Easybits installation.
- Restart Windows.
Do not delete random tasks or registry values based only on a similar-looking name. If the startup error continues, inspect the task’s executable path and record it before making further changes.
How to tell whether this worked
The startup dialog should stop appearing after the next restart. If disabling the entry removes the error but Magic Desktop still appears in Installed apps, uninstall it normally rather than deleting its files manually.
Fix 4: Run the program with administrator permission
Time needed: 2 to 5 minutes
This is not a replacement for reinstalling a damaged application, but it can help when the installer or application cannot access its own files.
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Locate Magic Desktop.
- If available, open Advanced options.
- Use Repair or Reset only if Windows presents those options and you understand that Reset may remove application data.
- To run an installer with elevated permission, right-click the official installer.
- Select Show more options if needed.
- Choose Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
Do not change permissions on System32, SysWOW64, or the entire Windows drive to make a DLL load. That can weaken Windows security and still leave the application incorrectly installed.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFix 5: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Time needed: 15 to 30 minutes
DISM and System File Checker repair protected Windows components. They are secondary checks for this problem because ezShell7.dll is associated with Magic Desktop, not established as part of the Windows component store.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run this command first:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until the scan reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Try Magic Desktop again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. Neither command is guaranteed to restore ezShell7.dll, because there is no evidence that this third-party file is supplied by Windows.

When manually repeating SFC and DISM becomes difficult, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for system issues and show what needs attention, while repair actions are handled by the full version; Magic Desktop’s official reinstall remains the definitive fix for this application file.
How to interpret the result
- Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations: Windows protected files appear intact. Continue troubleshooting Magic Desktop.
- Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and repaired them: Restart and test the application again.
- Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation: Restart into Safe Mode and repeat the scan, or continue with application repair.
- DISM reports that the restore operation failed: Record the exact error and focus on repairing or reinstalling Magic Desktop rather than treating this as proof that the DLL belongs to Windows.
Fix 6: Check dependencies only when the error names them
Time needed: 5 to 20 minutes
Do not install every runtime suggested by a generic DLL website. There is no verified public evidence that ezShell7.dll specifically requires Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET.
Recommended Free Tools
If the error names a Microsoft runtime such as MSVCP140.dll or VCRUNTIME140.dll, use Microsoft’s Visual C++ Redistributable documentation and install the architecture required by the application. A 32-bit Magic Desktop application generally needs the 32-bit runtime even when it runs on 64-bit Windows.
If the message names a different missing component:
- Write down the exact filename.
- Identify whether the failing executable is Magic Desktop or another program.
- Repair or reinstall that parent program.
- Obtain any runtime only from Microsoft or the software vendor.
- Restart Windows and test again.
A new dependency error after reinstalling may mean that the named DLL is present but one of its dependencies is not. It does not justify copying ezShell7.dll into a system folder.
Fix 7: Update a driver only when the error points to one
Time needed: 10 to 30 minutes
There is no verified evidence that a display, audio, chipset, or storage driver specifically repairs ezShell7.dll. Driver work is appropriate only if Device Manager shows a warning, the error names a driver-related component, or other applications are failing with hardware-related messages.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Right-click the Start button.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the category related to the reported problem, such as Display adapters, Sound, video and game controllers, or System devices.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
- If the problem began immediately after a driver update, open the device’s Properties.
- Select the Driver tab.
- Use Roll Back Driver if that option is available and appropriate.
- Otherwise, download the driver from the computer or hardware manufacturer.
When manually checking many device entries becomes impractical, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and show which versions need attention, while driver installation is handled by the full version; it is not a substitute for reinstalling Magic Desktop when that application owns the missing DLL.
Do not use regsvr32 as a routine fix
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that support self-registration, usually COM or ActiveX components. It is not a general command for installing any missing DLL.
There is no reliable public evidence that ezShell7.dll exports the required DllRegisterServer function. Running:
regsvr32 ezshell7.dll
may produce an error such as “The module was loaded but the entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found.” That result does not mean the DLL should be copied elsewhere or that registration is the missing step.

Why downloading ezshell7.dll separately is unsafe
Random DLL download sites can provide:
- The wrong Magic Desktop release
- The wrong architecture
- A modified or malicious file
- A file with missing dependencies
- A DLL that does not match the installed executable
Even a file with the correct name may not fix the damaged installation. It can also create a false sense that the problem is solved while an obsolete startup entry remains active.
The safe sources are the official Magic Desktop installer or the original installation media. If Windows Security quarantined the file, validate the source and detection before restoring anything.
Most likely causes and the correct response
| Likely cause | Correct response |
|---|---|
| Damaged or incomplete Magic Desktop installation | Uninstall, restart, remove confirmed leftovers, and reinstall from the official source |
Old ezRecover.exe startup entry |
Disable or remove the identified Easybits startup item after confirming its path |
| Antivirus quarantine | Inspect Protection history and prefer an official reinstall |
| Legacy file mixed with a newer release | Reinstall the matching Magic Desktop version rather than replacing one DLL |
| Missing dependency or architecture mismatch | Repair the parent application and investigate the exact dependency named |
| Windows component corruption | Run DISM, then SFC |
| Malware or file tampering | Run a full Defender scan and reinstall from the official source |
Frequently asked questions
Is ezshell7.dll a Windows file?
No evidence identifies it as a Microsoft Windows component. It is associated with Easybits Magic Desktop.
Which program installed ezshell7.dll?
The parent program is Magic Desktop, historically also shown as EasyBits For Kids. The description associated with the file is “Shell routines (Magic Desktop).”
Why does ezRecover.exe ask for it at startup?
A legacy Magic Desktop recovery or startup component may still be registered while ezShell7.dll is missing or damaged. Check Startup apps and Task Scheduler to verify the exact entry on your computer.
Is ezshell7.dll 32-bit or 64-bit?
A publicly indexed sample is reported as 32-bit, version 8.2.0.35, and approximately 1.56 MB. That is a reported legacy record, not a universal specification for every release.
Should I copy it into System32 or SysWOW64?
No. Do not copy this application DLL into Windows system folders. Restore it through the Magic Desktop installer.

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchShould I install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
Only if the complete error identifies a missing runtime or the official application installer requires it. None is verified as a direct, general fix for ezShell7.dll.
Does System File Checker restore this file?
Not normally. SFC repairs protected Windows files. It may help if Windows itself is damaged, but Magic Desktop should be repaired through its own installer.
Should I register the DLL?
Not as a routine fix. regsvr32 applies only to self-registering DLLs, and there is no reliable public evidence that this file requires registration.
What if I no longer use Magic Desktop?
Uninstall Magic Desktop or EasyBits For Kids. Then disable or remove the confirmed orphaned startup entry so Windows no longer tries to launch ezRecover.exe.
What information should I collect if the problem remains?
Record the complete error text, the executable named in the dialog, your Windows version and build, whether Magic Desktop appears in Installed apps, the installation path, whether antivirus quarantined anything, and whether the named DLL is present. This information distinguishes a missing file from a missing dependency, incompatible build, or orphaned startup reference.
