ezPaycheck is a locally processed payroll application that Halfpricesoft markets to small businesses and accounting professionals. The vendor says it calculates payroll, prints checks and paystubs, and prepares several federal payroll forms. It is licensed by tax year, not as a lifetime purchase, and its published prices differ across the vendor’s own pages. Whether it fits depends on your operating system, the forms you need, and how much of payroll you expect the software to file rather than merely help you prepare.
What ezPaycheck does
Halfpricesoft describes ezPaycheck as an in-house payroll program for small businesses, nonprofits, and independent accountants. Its listed workflows cover W-2 employees and 1099 contractors, payroll calculations, printed checks and paystubs, payroll reports, and selected federal forms. These are the publisher’s descriptions; they have not been independently tested here.

The vendor lists support for salary, hourly, tip, commission, bonus, and custom payment types, as well as multiple pay periods. It also describes federal and state tax tables, local-tax options, additional withholding, and pre-tax or post-tax deductions such as 401(k), insurance, and child support.
Which versions and forms are listed for 2026?
Halfpricesoft’s download page lists ezPaycheck 2026 builds published July 27, 2026: Windows version 3.16.20 and Mac version 3.16.11. The listed form and tax-table coverage differs by platform:

Those are the download page’s stated inclusions for these builds, not a guarantee that every form applies to your situation or that the list will remain unchanged after updates. Halfpricesoft describes the single-user edition as available for Windows and Mac, but says its multiple-user network version is Windows-only. Confirm the specific edition and platform before purchasing.
Federal forms, state reports, and e-filing are different things
The publisher lists Forms W-2, W-3, 940, 941, and 943 among ezPaycheck’s supported forms. Its product page also says in-app e-filing is available for Forms 941 and 940. That is a vendor claim; filing approval and outcomes have not been independently verified here. Halfpricesoft points to separate products for W-2/W-3 and 1099 e-filing.

For state, city, and other local taxes, Halfpricesoft says ezPaycheck generates reports to help with preparation but does not fill in state or local paper forms. That distinction matters: federal form support should not be read as comprehensive state or local filing. You may need to complete those forms or submit returns through the relevant government service separately.

No. Halfpricesoft’s FAQ says the software is licensed per tax year, so using it for a new tax year requires a new year’s license. The vendor also says payroll data carries forward. Its stated model is annual by tax year rather than a lifetime license or monthly subscription.

Why the listed prices do not establish one clear current cost
Halfpricesoft pages show different amounts: the FAQ lists $169 per calendar year per installation; a pricing page includes an $80-per-user offer for 2026 and 2027 and a $50-per-user annual multi-user offer; another vendor page states $189 per year. These figures may reflect different editions, offers, page updates, or stale information, so none should be treated as a settled universal price.
Before buying, check the current purchase page and confirm the tax year, edition, number of installations or users, and what the renewal will cost. The vendor says a 30-day trial includes feature access and places a watermark on printed output before purchase; verify the current trial terms on its download page.

Questions to settle before choosing it
- Do you need the supported forms? Match the forms listed for your operating system and tax year against your actual filing responsibilities.
- Will reports be enough for state and local work? The vendor says it does not fill state and local paper forms.
- Does the platform fit your workflow? The stated multi-user network option is Windows-only.
- Does annual licensing suit your budget? Confirm the current price and renewal terms directly with Halfpricesoft because its pages display different prices.
- Do you need a particular filing or payment workflow? The cited product descriptions establish e-filing claims for Forms 940 and 941, but do not establish a direct-deposit workflow.
Halfpricesoft calls the product “powerful” and “reliable” in its own marketing copy. Those are the vendor’s characterizations, not independent findings: no independent usability, calculation-accuracy, security, or reliability testing is established here.
