Every Google app with the fullscreen Account switcher redesign

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Google has been rolling out a redesigned account switcher across many of its apps. The most noticeable change is that switching accounts can open as a fullscreen experience—typically a dedicated full-screen view with clear account cards and an obvious way to add another account.

This guide gives you a practical, bookmark-worthy inventory of Google apps where the fullscreen redesign shows up, plus a reliable checklist to verify what you’re seeing on your exact device and app version.

Because rollouts aren’t always instant or uniform, you’ll also get clear ways to troubleshoot when an app still uses the older chooser UI.

What the fullscreen Account switcher redesign is

The fullscreen Account switcher redesign changes how Google presents multiple signed-in accounts. Instead of a compact inline picker, you typically get a full-screen page with account entries, management options, and an add-account flow that feels like a separate screen.

In practice, this redesign improves tap targets, reduces mis-taps, and makes the add/manage options more obvious—especially on smaller screens.

Before you check: prerequisites and what to look for

You’ll get the most accurate results if you start with the same conditions across apps.

Prerequisites

  • More than one Google account configured on the device or in the app. Many apps won’t show a switcher if there’s only one account.
  • App updated to a recent version. The rollout timing can vary by app and platform.
  • Network access to complete login/account refresh. Some UIs won’t fully render until auth state is updated.

What counts as “fullscreen” in this guide

For this guide, “fullscreen” means the account selection UI occupies the main screen as a full view (or a full-screen modal) rather than a small bottom sheet or compact drop-down.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If you see a dedicated screen where you scroll accounts/cards and then dismiss it, you’re looking at the fullscreen redesign.

How to confirm the fullscreen redesign on your device

You can confirm quickly with a repeatable check that doesn’t depend on memory.

Confirmation checklist

  1. Open the Google app.
  2. Tap your profile icon (or account/avatar area).
  3. If multiple accounts exist, tap the current account to trigger the switcher.
  4. Watch for a new full-screen view (or a full-screen modal) showing multiple account entries.
  5. Look for an Add account option that appears in that same full view.

If the UI instead appears as a small picker (inline, compact sheet, or minimal list), that’s the older chooser pattern.

Android apps with the fullscreen Account switcher redesign

On Android, the redesigned fullscreen account switcher is common across major Google consumer apps. Below is the set of Google apps where you should expect to see the fullscreen view when you have multiple accounts available.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Platform

  1. Google App (Google Search / app)
  2. Gmail
  3. YouTube
  4. Google Maps
  5. Google Photos
  6. Google Drive
  7. Google Calendar
  8. Google Play Store
  9. Google News
  10. Google Meet
  11. Google Duo (where still used) / Meet legacy entry points
  12. Google Chrome (account chooser behavior depends on sign-in context)
  13. Google Home (account picker can appear during sign-in flows)

How to use this list: If you open the app while signed into multiple accounts and you see the account list as a full-screen screen (not a compact overlay), you’ve got the redesign.

iOS apps with the fullscreen Account switcher redesign

On iPhone and iPad, Google has been aligning UI patterns across apps, so the fullscreen account switcher appears in many of the same places. iOS rollouts can lag slightly behind Android, but the fullscreen behavior should still be straightforward to confirm.

Platform

  1. Google App (Google Search / app)
  2. Gmail
  3. YouTube
  4. Google Maps
  5. Google Photos
  6. Google Drive
  7. Google Calendar
  8. Google News
  9. Google Meet
  10. Google Home
  11. Google Chrome (account chooser depends on sign-in context)
  12. Google Play-related entry points (varies by iOS availability and app integrations)

If an app shows a full-screen account card list with an add/manage action in that same screen, that’s the redesign.

Web (mobile + desktop) account switcher behavior

On the web, Google’s account switching is usually presented as an overlay panel rather than a true full-screen takeover. However, some workflows still show a fullscreen-like experience—especially when the system moves you into a dedicated sign-in management UI.

So, for web, treat this as “account switcher experience changes,” not always a literal full-screen chooser.

Platform

  1. Gmail on the web
  2. YouTube on the web
  3. Google Calendar (web)
  4. Google Drive (web)
  5. Google Photos (web)
  6. Google Search sign-in surfaces
  7. Google Maps on the web

When you click your avatar/profile icon on web, the account UI often opens as a panel. If you instead get redirected into a dedicated account-management view that occupies a separate page, that’s the closest analog to a fullscreen account switcher experience.

Why some apps still show the older account chooser

Even when your device has the redesign in several apps, one specific app can still show the older chooser pattern. This usually comes down to how Google rolls out UI updates.

The most common causes

  • Staged rollout: apps receive UI changes in waves, not in a single release.
  • Auth state caching: your account switcher might render from cached session configuration.
  • Account type variance: some organizations or managed accounts can affect how sign-in flows appear.
  • Client-specific UI: some apps share login components while others use app-specific sign-in shells.
  • Regional feature flags: rollouts may be influenced by locale.

Troubleshooting when the redesign won’t appear

If you expect fullscreen but keep seeing the older account chooser, work through these steps in order. Most fixes involve refreshing app state or forcing a clean re-auth.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Step-by-step on Android

  1. Update the app from the Google Play Store.
  2. Force close the app, then reopen it.
  3. Check whether you’re on multiple accounts inside the app (not just the device).
  4. Open Settings → Apps (or App management) → select the Google app → Storage.
  5. Tap Clear cache (start with cache; don’t jump straight to data).
  6. Reopen the app and try the profile icon again.
  7. If still stuck, go back and use Clear storage / Clear data for the app (you may need to sign in again).

If the app supports it, also confirm Google Play Services and the Google app itself are up to date.

Step-by-step on iOS (iPhone and iPad)

  1. Update the app from the App Store.
  2. Close the app fully (swipe it away), then reopen.
  3. Confirm the app is signed into more than one account.
  4. If the app is the only one behaving differently, try deleting and reinstalling the app (this resets local UI/auth state).
  5. After reinstall, sign back into accounts and test the profile icon again.

Because iOS doesn’t always expose the same cache controls as Android, reinstall is often the most direct way to refresh UI state.

Network and session checks

  • Switch networks (Wi‑Fi to cellular or vice versa) and retry the account switcher.
  • Temporarily disable VPN/proxy apps if you use one.
  • Verify the app can reach Google auth endpoints (logouts and “stuck loading” can block UI updates).

Common mistakes and gotchas

  • Only one account installed in the app: the switcher won’t show the fullscreen UI unless multiple accounts are actually present.
  • Confusing device accounts with app accounts: some apps manage their own account lists.
  • Testing after switching accounts but not refreshing: if you switch accounts and immediately tap the profile icon again, some apps may show an older cached list until you reopen.
  • Expecting web UI to be identical to app UI: web commonly uses an overlay/panel pattern even when apps use fullscreen.
  • Assuming one app controls another: Gmail being updated doesn’t guarantee YouTube is on the same UI wave.

Quick comparison: fullscreen vs older account chooser

Behavior Fullscreen redesign Older account chooser
Screen layout Dedicated full-screen view with scrollable account entries Compact overlay/picker or shorter inline list
Add account Prominent action inside the full view Often less prominent or placed deeper in the menu
Dismiss behavior Clear close/back affordance for the full view Dismiss/collapse of a smaller overlay
Primary goal Reduce mis-taps and improve account management visibility Quick switching with less screen real estate

FAQs

Which Google apps always use the fullscreen account switcher?

No single Google app is guaranteed to always show the fullscreen version on every device and every date. UI updates roll out in stages, and some apps use different account-management shells depending on sign-in context.

Why do I see the new account switcher in one app but not another?

That’s usually a rollout timing difference. It can also happen when an app’s local auth cache hasn’t refreshed yet.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does the fullscreen redesign change how my accounts are stored?

No. It’s a UI/flow change for switching accounts, not a change to how Google stores account data.

Will clearing app data remove my Google account?

It can remove the local session for that app. You’ll typically need to sign in again, but your actual Google account remains unchanged.

Can I force the redesign to appear?

You can’t reliably force the exact UI version, but updating the app, refreshing auth state (cache/data), and reinstalling (iOS) are the most effective ways to get the newest UI when available.

Bottom Line

The fullscreen Account switcher redesign shows up across most major Google apps—especially on Android and iOS—once you’re signed into multiple accounts and your app build has reached the UI rollout. Use the checklist to confirm the behavior on your device, then refresh app state if you’re stuck on the older chooser.

If one app lags, that’s normal. Update, re-auth, and clear cache/storage in a controlled way, and you’ll usually get the redesign without waiting weeks for the next rollout wave.
