EverQuest Still Has Players, but No Public Total Counts Them All

SteamCharts’ September 2026 count measures concurrent Steam activity, not EverQuest’s full population or long-term player loyalty. Official updates confirm continued operation, but Daybreak has not published a comprehensive player total.

There is no authoritative public count of EverQuest’s full current population in the available official sources. SteamCharts showed an average of 209.55 concurrent Steam players over the 30 days ending around its September 11, 2026 snapshot—but that is only the Steam slice, not a count of everyone playing EverQuest or a measure of how many have stayed loyal over the years.

What the latest published player figures actually measure

SteamCharts tracks concurrent players using Steam data. Its September 2026 snapshot reported these figures:

Figure What it means What it does not mean
209.55 average concurrent players Steam’s average concurrent-player count over the preceding 30 days, as shown in the September 2026 snapshot. SteamCharts’ EverQuest page Not the number of all EverQuest players, monthly active people, subscribers, or unique accounts.
340 peak concurrent players The highest concurrent-player count displayed for that 30-day window in the September 2026 snapshot. SteamCharts’ EverQuest page Not the average population or a total-player estimate.
286 24-hour peak The 24-hour peak shown in SteamCharts’ September 11, 2026 snapshot. SteamCharts’ EverQuest page Not a count of everyone who played that day; it records a concurrent peak.

Concurrent means playing at the same time. A rolling average smooths activity across a period, while a peak captures a high point. Neither tells you how many distinct people logged in over a month, how many accounts remain subscribed, or how long players have been returning. SteamCharts is therefore useful as a directional signal for Steam activity, not as a whole-game census.

Why there is no reliable total-player number

EverQuest is also launched outside Steam. The Steam listing describes the PC game as free-to-play and says a Daybreak account is required, but Steam’s player tracker does not count people using Daybreak’s own launcher. Steam’s EverQuest listing

Daybreak’s public announcements and update notes document operations and releases, not a complete population figure. Its Census API documentation describes access to game data, but does not establish a comprehensive public active-player total; it also notes that some data collections may omit objects for privacy or business reasons. Without a disclosed all-launcher count and a stated definition—such as concurrent users, monthly active accounts, or subscribers—there is no defensible way to turn the Steam figure into a total.

What official activity says about EverQuest’s staying power

There is evidence the game remained operational and received ongoing work in 2026. Daybreak’s announcements index listed “Lethar is Live!” on August 26, 2026, and a July producer letter. That letter described the Frostreaver Time-Locked Progression server launch, spring updates, a Rizlona-to-Aradune server merge, and an expansion unlock on Test and Live servers. The official update-notes page listed an update dated September 16, 2026. Daybreak’s EverQuest announcements · July 2026 producer letter · EverQuest update notes

  • Work with a new magical system that combines the old Skills and Spells into a new Ability category, for easier management

These are signs of continued service, maintenance, and investment in servers and content. They do not reveal whether the population is growing or shrinking, nor do server launches, unlocks, or merges by themselves establish a trend in total players. A merge can reflect operational decisions; it is not a population statistic.

So, how many players remain loyal?

The honest answer is that the public evidence does not establish a total or a long-term retention count. The best dated numerical indicator here is SteamCharts’ 209.55 average concurrent Steam players in its September 2026 30-day snapshot. The full community is larger than that Steam-only measure may suggest, but the available sources do not quantify by how much. Ongoing official updates show EverQuest is still being maintained; they cannot tell us how many individual players have remained loyal.
