Install Evernote and sign in
Download Evernote from the App Store and sign in with the account you use on your other devices. Evernote Help & Learning says using an account on more than two devices requires a paid subscription; check the current account guidance if you need to connect another device. Evernote’s device installation guidance covers the current rule.

Create, organize, and find a note
Create a note
- Tap the green New note button.
- Add a title and enter your content.
- Choose a notebook if you do not want to use the default notebook. If you do not select one, Evernote saves the note to the default notebook.
Evernote notes can contain text, checklists, bulleted or numbered lists, images, audio recordings, and files. Evernote’s note creation instructions describe the available content types.
Search for notes
Start a search from the Create page or from above the note list. If you are unsure where a note went, check the default notebook as well as any notebook you may have selected. Evernote’s search instructions explain where search is available.

Customize navigation
The mobile navigation can include Create, Notes, Notebooks, Shortcuts, Tasks, Calendar, Tags, Shared, Templates, Spaces, widgets, and More. To change what appears, open the profile menu and go to Settings > Navigation > Customize navigation. Labels and options may change as the app is updated. Evernote’s navigation guidance gives the current path.
Scan paper with your iPhone
Capture from Evernote
- From the homepage, tap the Camera icon.
- Choose Photo or Auto.
- For Auto, hold the iPhone steadily above the paper and keep all its edges visible in the frame. Evernote says the camera detects, focuses on, and captures the document.
Evernote says text in saved handwritten or printed material can be searchable. Its camera workflow can be used for items such as receipts, notes, documents, business cards, labels, manuals, and whiteboards. See Evernote’s document-capture instructions.

Use Scannable for review and sharing
Evernote’s separate iOS Scannable app offers another workflow: point the camera at paper, review and edit the capture, approve it, then save to Camera Roll or Evernote, send it, or share it with another app. Its guide says single-page scans default to images and multipage scans to PDFs. This option is useful if you want to review or export a scan; the in-app camera is the direct route when you want to capture from Evernote. The guidance does not establish that one workflow scans faster or produces better results. Read Evernote’s Scannable guide.

- Open an existing note or create one, then enter edit mode.
- Tap the blue plus sign above the keyboard.
- Select Attachment and choose the file.
The file must fit within the note-size limit for your account. Evernote’s attachment instructions cover the workflow.

Make notes available offline
A mobile cache may contain titles, tags, short excerpts, and system data without holding the full note. To ensure you can open material without a connection, download the notes or notebook you need and confirm the download has finished.
Download an individual note
- Open the note.
- Tap the three-dot More Options menu.
- Turn on Available offline.
- Check the download status and wait for completion before disconnecting.
Download a notebook
Open the notebook, use its three-dot More Options menu, and enable offline availability. Wait for the download to complete before relying on it without an internet connection.

Offline downloads use device storage. To remove them, go to Account > Settings > Offline. Edits made offline sync after the iPhone reconnects. Evernote’s offline-access instructions explain the settings.

Understand sync and refresh
Evernote Help & Learning states, “Evernote automatically saves and syncs your notes across all connected devices.” In practice, automatic syncing applies when devices can connect; offline edits sync once the iPhone is back online. If you need a full refresh, Evernote says reinstalling the mobile app triggers a full resync. Treat reinstalling as a troubleshooting step, not a routine way to sync. Check that your account’s current device allowance works for your setup before adding devices. Evernote’s installation and sync guidance covers these account and troubleshooting details.
