The Evercade Nexus is a portable retro gaming system built around Evercade cartridges, with a 5.89-inch screen, dual analogue sticks, and a vertical-play Tate Mode. A hands-on preview reports support for more than 70 Evercade cartridges, representing 700+ games, and a Banjo-Kazooie Double Pack in the announced bundle. Those details make it most relevant to players who want a dedicated cartridge library, rather than a general-purpose handheld.
What the Evercade Nexus is—and who it suits
The Nexus is a new portable in the Evercade range, designed to play the company’s physical game cartridges. Its appeal is less about replacing a modern all-purpose gaming device and more about bringing a large screen and updated controls to an existing cartridge ecosystem.

Cartridges, games, and the announced bundle
The preview says the Nexus works with more than 70 Evercade cartridges, representing 700+ games. That is a library figure stated in the preview, not an independently verified count. Collections mentioned include games from Atari, Interplay, and Namco, as well as franchise collections for Tomb Raider, Doom, and Duke Nukem. The article also notes Full Void, a modern indie game with a retro style, released on cartridge.
The announced bundle includes a Banjo-Kazooie Double Pack. Bundle contents can vary or change by retailer and region, so confirm what is in the specific offer before buying. Price and launch timing: what is known
Tom’s Guide reported an announced launch price of $199 / £169 and said the device was due in October 2026. Those are launch figures reported in the preview, not verified current prices. Current launch status, retail availability, regional pricing, and the precise bundle on sale are not established here. Check a current retailer or Evercade listing for the offer in your region.
What to weigh before buying
- Your games: The main differentiator is the physical Evercade cartridge library. Check that the titles you want are on compatible cartridges and that those collections are available where you live.
- Screen and controls: The large reported display and dual analogue sticks broaden the system’s control options. The previewer’s positive D-pad impression and sluggish-trigger impression are subjective hands-on notes, not a substitute for trying the device yourself.
- Playing style: Tate Mode is intended for vertical-screen games, while wireless headphone support and stereo speakers give you two reported audio options.
- Battery expectations: Treat the five-hour figure as an estimate; the preview does not describe the workload or conditions behind it.
- Price and bundle: Compare the current local price and actual included games, rather than relying on the announced launch price or bundle description.
The available hands-on account is Rory Mellon’s preview for Tom’s Guide, published August 30, 2026. It also reports a conversation with Sean Cleaver, Head of Marketing at Blaze Entertainment, but does not provide a quotation suitable for direct reuse. Read the Tom’s Guide preview.
