To protect progress, turn on Cloud Saves for supported games, handle conflicts by keeping the newer file, and back up saves before uninstalling games that do not support cloud storage. Can you play Epic Games games without internet?
Epic Games Launcher’s Offline Mode is automatic. It activates when the computer loses internet access or when the Launcher starts while offline; there is no separate switch that guarantees every installed title will work. Epic describes it as a way to play “supported single-player games using the Epic Games Launcher without an internet connection.”

Three conditions determine whether it works:
- The game must already be installed on the device. You cannot download or install a new title while offline.
- The individual game must support Offline Mode. Support is decided per title, not by the Launcher as a whole.
- The game must be playable as a single-player experience without a live service connection. Multiplayer and other always-online designs generally cannot start offline.
When possible, launch a newly installed game once while connected. That gives the title an opportunity to complete first-run setup and confirms that it opens before you depend on an offline trip or outage. This is a practical precaution, not a promise that every game will remain playable offline after an update or account change.

What stops working offline?
Epic cautions that online multiplayer, Cloud Saves, achievements and other online services may be unavailable in Offline Mode. A game can therefore start successfully while still lacking features you normally use. Do not assume that a save made offline will automatically upload later; the Launcher’s offline behavior and each game’s own save system determine what happens when connectivity returns.

If offline play matters, check the title’s feature information before disconnecting rather than treating the Launcher’s Offline Mode as a universal compatibility guarantee.
How to enable and verify Cloud Saves
Cloud Saves keep supported games’ save files in online storage so the same progress can be used on another device. Enable the feature in the Launcher before relying on it:
- Open the Epic Games Launcher while connected to the internet.
- Open Settings.
- Select the Enable Cloud Saves checkbox.
Enabling the global setting does not add Cloud Saves to a game that lacks support. Verify each title in one of two places:

- Open the game’s store page and inspect its listed Features tags.
The Library feature filter and the store-page tags are the authoritative checks for an individual title. If a game is absent from the Cloud Saves filter or has no Cloud Saves feature tag, treat its progress as local to the device unless the publisher documents another synchronization method.
Online and offline save behavior
Cloud synchronization requires connectivity. Playing on one device while disconnected and then moving to another device creates two possible versions of the save: the local file created offline and the copy already stored in the cloud. The Launcher may then ask which version to keep. Cloud Saves should be viewed as synchronization, not as a substitute for a separate backup of irreplaceable progress.

What to do when a Cloud Save conflict appears
A conflict commonly follows this pattern: you play offline on one computer, connect later, and then start the same game on another computer. The Launcher detects that local and cloud files differ and asks you to choose.
- Read the file dates, times and any label shown by the Launcher.
- Choose the file representing the latest progress. Epic’s interface may identify it with a NEWER label.
- Confirm only after checking which device contains the session you want to keep.
Timestamps are the useful evidence when the labels are unclear. If you played for several hours offline on a laptop today and the cloud file is from yesterday, the laptop file is probably the one you need. Conversely, if another person played on the second device more recently, overwriting that file with an older local copy can remove their session. When the choice is genuinely uncertain, stop and preserve both local files outside the game folder before confirming, if the game and operating system allow you to copy them safely.
Will uninstalling a game delete progress?
It depends on Cloud Save support. For a game that supports Cloud Saves and has synchronized successfully, reinstalling generally allows the stored progress to return. That protection applies only to saves that actually reached the cloud; a session played offline may still exist only on the original computer.
For a game without Cloud Saves, uninstalling can remove files in the installation directory, including local save files. Back up those saves before selecting Uninstall. Epic does not prescribe a particular backup product, so a simple copy to another folder or external storage is the essential step.

Safe uninstall checklist for a non-Cloud-Save title
- Exit the game and the Epic Games Launcher.
- Find the game’s local save directory using the game publisher’s support documentation or the game’s own settings.
- Copy the entire save folder, preserving its filenames and subfolders.
- Store the copy somewhere outside the installation directory, such as another drive or a protected user folder.
- Record which game version and account produced the backup.
- Uninstall only after confirming that the copied files open and are not still inside the folder that will be removed.
For Cloud Save games, allow the Launcher to finish synchronization while online before uninstalling. A cloud icon or similar status indicator can show activity, but the exact visual treatment varies by Launcher version.

The normal update path is inside the Launcher:
- Open the Epic Games Launcher.
- Go to Settings.
- Select RESTART AND UPDATE when that option appears.
- Allow the Launcher to close and reopen. On Windows, accept the User Account Control prompt if it appears.
The button may not be visible when the client is already current. Interface labels can differ between the standard Launcher and an Early Preview build, so look for the equivalent restart-and-update command if the wording is not identical.
DL-8010 or DL-8011 errors
If a game reports error DL-8010 or DL-8011, Epic says the title requires Launcher version 18.7 or newer. Update the Launcher, restart it, and retry the game. If the update command is missing or fails, continue with the troubleshooting order below rather than repeatedly launching the affected title.

For crashes, failed downloads, games that will not launch and similar failures, work from platform-wide causes toward local repairs. The sequence below follows Epic’s documented order and avoids changing several variables at once.
1. Check Epic’s server status
First determine whether Epic is experiencing an outage. A server problem can affect login, downloads, cloud synchronization and game launches; clearing files on your computer will not repair a service-side incident. Wait for the service to recover before escalating local changes.

2. Install any Launcher update
Use Settings > RESTART AND UPDATE if it is offered. A stale client can cause launch and download errors, including DL-8010 and DL-8011. Restart after updating so the new client is actually running.
3. Check the game’s system requirements
Compare the computer with the title’s published minimum and recommended requirements, including operating-system version, processor, memory, graphics hardware and available storage. A game that never met its minimum requirements will not be fixed by cache deletion.
4. Disable fullscreen optimization for low FPS on Windows
For low frame rates, Epic includes a Windows-specific fullscreen-optimization step. Apply it to the game executable using the executable path specified in Epic’s support instructions, then retest. This is a performance diagnostic, not a universal fix for crashes or download problems, and it does not apply to non-Windows systems.
5. Clear the Launcher cache
A damaged or stale cache can interfere with the Launcher interface, downloads or game starts. Close the Launcher completely, follow Epic’s current cache-clearing procedure for your operating system, and reopen it. Cache removal should occur after checking servers and updates because it cannot resolve an outage or an unsupported game.
6. Run the Launcher as administrator on Windows
Administrator mode can address permission errors that prevent the Launcher from writing files or starting a title. This step is Windows-specific. Close the Launcher, use its Windows context-menu option to run it as administrator, and test the failing action. Do not treat elevation as a replacement for fixing incorrect folder permissions or security software rules.
7. Update graphics drivers
Install a current driver for the computer’s graphics card from its hardware manufacturer, restart Windows, and test again. Driver changes are particularly relevant to crashes, rendering failures and poor frame rates; they will not restore a deleted save or create Cloud Save support for a title.
8. Disable background applications
Temporarily close overlays, recording tools, hardware monitors and other background programs that may conflict with the Launcher or game. Reopen only the essentials and test. If the problem disappears, re-enable applications one at a time to identify the conflict rather than leaving every program disabled permanently.
9. Reinstall the Epic Games Launcher
Reinstall only after the earlier checks fail. A reinstall can repair damaged client files, but it is disruptive and should not be confused with uninstalling a game. Back up local saves for games without Cloud Saves before removing software, then install the current Launcher and sign in again.

What the Launcher can and cannot guarantee
Offline Mode is a per-game convenience, not a blanket license to run every Epic title without a network. Cloud Saves are a synchronization feature available only to supported games, not an automatic backup for every local file. Conflict dialogs are a data-preservation decision: the newer file is normally the correct choice, while the older file can destroy unrecoverable progress. Finally, troubleshooting is most efficient when service status and client version are checked before making Windows-level changes.
