The reported game had been slated for March, but Bloomberg’s excerpt said no new date had been communicated. Epic has not publicly confirmed those project details in the available material; its statement to Bloomberg described AI-accelerated development led by Epic developers.
What Bloomberg reported about the delay
Bloomberg’s October 12 report, as reproduced in an excerpt linked from Reddit, described an unannounced Epic-Disney shooter featuring Marvel and Star Wars characters. The excerpt attributed the project details and schedule to people familiar with the project who were not authorized to speak publicly. It said the game had been slated for March and was delayed, with no replacement date communicated.

The report does not establish a confirmed release date, official game title, or final scope. Epic and Disney have not publicly confirmed the specific shooter and schedule described in the accessible excerpt. The reported March target should therefore be understood as a date in Bloomberg’s account, not an official release date.

What the report says about AI use
According to Bloomberg’s excerpt, developers were told to use an “AI first” production model, with tools such as Anthropic’s Claude and humans managing and guiding the work. The excerpt quotes a director telling staff, “No more hand-written code,” and describing all art as “generated with full AI workflows.” These are reported internal remarks, not independently verified descriptions of the game’s final code or art.

Epic communications director Jake Jones gave Bloomberg this statement: “We’re embracing AI-accelerated development, led by Epic developers who are the visionaries and creative drivers for everything we do.” That confirms Epic’s stated embrace of AI-accelerated development, but the statement does not confirm every detail attributed to unnamed sources, including the reported instructions or the game’s production workflow.
How this fits Epic and Disney’s announced partnership
Epic and Disney announced a broad collaboration on February 7, 2024: an “all-new open, persistent and social universe” connected to Fortnite and powered by Unreal Engine. The companies described opportunities to play, watch, shop, engage with Disney stories and characters, and create and share experiences. The announcement named Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and Avatar. Epic also announced that Disney would invest $1.5 billion to acquire an equity stake in Epic, subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals. That proposed investment was tied to the broader collaboration; it is not evidence of the reported shooter’s budget.

Epic and Disney have used AI in a separate Fortnite feature
In May 2025, Disney said Epic and Disney had used AI technology for an interactive Darth Vader conversational experience in Fortnite. Disney said the work was developed in consultation with James Earl Jones’s family, Disney, and Lucasfilm, with attention to transparency, consent, and safety. Disney EVP Sean Shoptaw described that feature as an effort to embrace emerging technologies responsibly while keeping people at the center of the creative process.

Why the reported schedule is difficult to pin down
Schedule reporting has shifted. On April 13, 2026, the Los Angeles Times, crediting Bloomberg, reported that the first game in the Disney partnership was on track for a November launch, citing four current and former employees. That report also included an Epic statement from senior director of global communications Liz Markman: “Epic’s timelines are aggressive and always have been. We’ve heavily moved developers onto projects with releases approaching, while smaller prototyping teams are working on further-off projects.” A Disney spokesperson said the companies remained focused on their long-term collaboration and that their work remained unchanged.
The October 12 account is later reporting and describes a March target that was delayed without a newly communicated date. Neither dated report supplies an official current launch date for the specific game described in the newer excerpt. The earlier Epic and Disney statements were made in response to the April coverage, not the October claims.
