Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →To enable Fast Boot on an ASRock motherboard, enter UEFI setup, open the Boot tab, select a mode listed for your board, then save and exit. The available modes and their effects vary by model and firmware, so check your motherboard’s current manual before changing the setting—especially if you boot from USB or need legacy CSM support.
Before you change Fast Boot
Find your exact motherboard model and consult its current manual or ASRock support page. ASRock updates its UEFI software over time, so manual screens and menu names may not exactly match your firmware. Some older manuals list Disabled, Fast, and Ultra Fast; the Intel Z790/H770/B760 guide lists only Disabled and Ultra Fast. Choose only an option actually shown in your setup.

- You rely on USB boot: Fast Boot can prevent booting from USB storage. ASRock documents this limitation in its FAQ 522 and board-specific manuals, including its X370M manual. Check the behavior for your board and mode before enabling it if you use USB installation or recovery media.
- You need legacy boot or CSM: Ultra Fast requires full UEFI mode on the ASRock systems described in the FAQ. It automatically disables and hides CSM, which may conflict with a legacy operating system, device, or boot workflow.
- You use an external graphics card: ASRock’s Intel B760-series guide says Ultra Fast requires the card’s VBIOS to support UEFI GOP. That guide also requires a UEFI-aware operating system; do not assume older manuals’ generation-specific OS requirements apply to every current board.
- You may need to enter setup again: Ultra Fast can make the usual startup-key method difficult. The B760 guide points to clearing CMOS or using Windows’ Restart to UEFI utility; the recovery route may differ by model. Check the manual before enabling it.
ASRock describes Fast Boot as speeding up or minimizing startup time, but the cited manuals do not give a measured number of seconds or percentage. The actual improvement on a particular PC is not established by those documents.

- Enter UEFI setup. Restart or power on the PC and press F2 or Delete during startup. The X370M manual documents both keys; timing and supported keys can vary by board.
- Open the Boot tab. Find Fast Boot. If the setting or a mode is missing, consult the board’s manual rather than assuming every ASRock UEFI has the same menu.
- Select a supported mode. Choose a mode shown in your firmware. Consider USB boot needs, UEFI versus legacy compatibility, graphics-card GOP support for Ultra Fast, and your way back into setup.
- Save changes and exit. Use the save-and-exit command shown in your UEFI interface. The setting takes effect after the firmware applies the change and restarts.
What changes with Ultra Fast
CSM disappears
If you choose Ultra Fast and can no longer find CSM, that is expected on the configurations covered by ASRock’s FAQ 522, dated October 13, 2022. ASRock explains that Ultra Fast is supported only when booting in full UEFI mode, so CSM is disabled and hidden automatically. If your setup depends on CSM, do not treat Ultra Fast as a compatible choice without checking the board’s documentation and your boot requirements.

- Comprehensive AMD AM4 Platform: Supports a wide range of AMD Socket AM4 processors, including Ryzen 5000, 4000, and 3000 Series CPUs and APUs for flexible, budget-friendly builds. Please check ASRock's CPU support list for detailed compatibility.
- Legacy Display Support: Offers maximum monitor compatibility with three video outputs: HDMI (4K 60Hz), DVI-D, and D-Sub (VGA), perfect for office or home systems.
- High-Speed Memory Support: Two DDR4 DIMM slots support dual-channel configurations and overclocked speeds up to 4733+ (OC) for responsive performance.
- PCIe 4.0 Ready: The primary PCIe x16 slot supports PCIe 4.0 speeds (with compatible 3rd Gen Ryzen CPUs and above) for modern graphics cards.
- Versatile Storage Options: Features one Hyper M.2 slot (PCIe Gen4x4 and SATA3) for a fast NVMe or SATA SSD, plus four SATA3 ports for additional drives.
ASRock’s C.A.M. instructions also say to set Fast Boot to Disabled if the CSM menu is missing in that specific workflow. That is a troubleshooting step for the C.A.M. configuration, not a universal prerequisite for using Fast Boot.
USB storage may not boot
ASRock’s Intel B760-series BIOS Setup Guide warns that Fast Boot can prevent booting from a USB storage device. Its X370M and J3455M manuals likewise document USB boot limitations. The exact behavior is board- and mode-dependent; avoid enabling the setting immediately before you need USB installation or recovery media unless your manual confirms the relevant mode works.

Getting back into UEFI may take extra steps
With Ultra Fast, the normal startup-key window may be difficult to use. For the Intel B760-series configuration, ASRock documents clearing CMOS or using the Windows Restart to UEFI utility as ways to enter setup. The J3455M manual gives a similar warning. Use the recovery method documented for your exact board; do not assume another model’s procedure applies.
Choose a mode around your boot needs
There is no universal best mode. The right choice depends on what the board offers and how the PC is configured.

- Keep Fast Boot disabled if you need USB storage boot or rely on a legacy boot path that requires CSM.
- Consider a less restrictive Fast mode, if your board offers one, when you want faster startup but need to retain more compatibility. Check the manual for that mode’s specific limits.
- Use Ultra Fast only when your operating system and boot setup support full UEFI, your external graphics card meets the board guide’s UEFI GOP requirement where applicable, and you know the board-specific route back into setup.
ASRock’s manuals describe the feature qualitatively; they do not establish a general numerical boot-time gain. Decide based on compatibility and convenience rather than an assumed time saving.
