Choose the Elgato Key Light if you need the higher maximum output and its taller mount suits your setup. Choose the Key Light Air MK.2 if a lighter desk-focused light and flexible USB-C or battery-bank power matter more. The original Key Light Air is a separate, older model—not the current Air MK.2—so check the generation before buying.

Key Light vs. Key Light Air: the main differences

Elgato lists the Key Light at 2,800 lumens, compared with up to 2,100 lumens for the Air MK.2. The Key Light has a larger panel and a mount that reaches higher; the Air MK.2 is lighter and supports more power-source options. Both current comparison models have a listed color-temperature range of 2,900–7,000 K.

Which one should you choose?

Choose Key Light for more output and a taller position

The Key Light is the stronger fit when you want the higher listed maximum brightness, have room for a 350 × 250 mm panel, and need a mount that can extend up to 125 cm. Its included power supply makes it a straightforward choice for a fixed setup where flexible power is not a priority.

#1 Best Overall
Elgato Key Light Air MK.2, 15" Edge-Lit LED Panel
  • Up to 2100 lumens: 50% brighter than the original Key Light Air; edge-lit, anti-glare illumination that flatters every complexion on camera
  • 256 premium LEDs, CRI > 94%: slim 15" panel with full spectrum from 2900K to 7000K for warm to cool white light that renders color naturally on camera
  • Touch and app control: adjust brightness and color temperature directly on the light; full control over USB or Wi-Fi via Elgato Control Center on desktop, tablet, or mobile
  • Flexible power: USB-C from your laptop, a PD 3.0+ adapter for full output, or a battery bank on the MagSafe ring — three ways to power your light
  • With desk mount and Stream Deck support: height-adjustable clamp from 60–88 cm; panel detaches for any rig; automate your light with a single keypress

Choose Key Light Air MK.2 for a compact desk setup

The Air MK.2 weighs 735 g and has a lower mount-height range than the Key Light. Its USB-C, compatible adapter, and compatible battery-bank options can suit a desk where cable placement or power-source flexibility matters. For full brightness, Elgato specifies a power source of at least 30 W.

Consider the original Key Light Air only as a legacy purchase

The original Air is a smaller, square-panel model rated at 1,400 lumens. Elgato identifies it as no longer manufactured, while its product comparisons identify Air MK.2 as the current Air model. If you are considering a used or remaining-stock original, verify the exact generation, condition, included adapter, and support details with the seller.

Elgato Key Light, Professional 2800 Lumens Studio Light
  • Wi-Fi Enabled: switch on/off and fine-tune light settings via the desktop app.
  • 2800 Lumens: illuminate your entire workspace and dim down to a subtle glow.
  • 2900 – 7000 K: change color temperature from sunset amber to arctic blue.
  • 160 OSRAM LEDs: impressively low heat compared to soft boxes.
  • Opal Glass Face: evenly balanced; glare-free diffusion.

What the brightness numbers do—and don’t—tell you

The published maximums make the Key Light the higher-output option on paper: 2,800 lumens versus up to 2,100 for Air MK.2, and 1,400 for the original Air. They do not establish how bright either light will look in your particular room. Placement distance, light angle, room conditions, desired coverage, and brightness setting all affect usefulness; Elgato’s cited product information does not provide a controlled real-world comparison across those variables.

Color range and CRI

Elgato lists an adjustable 2,900–7,000 K color-temperature range for the Key Light and both Air generations. Its published Key Light CRI figures conflict: the comparison page lists greater than 92%, while the technical-specification page lists greater than 94%. Because the vendor pages disagree, these figures do not support a definitive claim that one model renders color better. Check the current, model-specific listing if CRI is important to your decision.

Check the generation and accessory fit before buying

Listings that say only “Key Light Air” may refer to the original Air or the newer Air MK.2. Confirm the model name and specifications rather than assuming an older listing describes the current product. Elgato’s feature comparison reports Multi Mount compatibility for the original Air and Key Light, as well as Stream Deck support. For Air MK.2, check accessory compatibility against the exact product listing; do not assume the older model’s accessory details carry over.
