For a new script, use text to speech; for an existing recording or video, use dubbing. Check language support for the specific model or feature, match the voice to the target accent, and review the result before publishing. The language counts differ: ElevenLabs lists 29 languages for Multilingual v2, 32 for Flash v2.5, and 90+ for dubbing. Those figures describe different capabilities, not a single universal language list.
Should you use text to speech or dubbing?

Which ElevenLabs model supports your language?
Check the language list for the exact model or feature before preparing a full project. ElevenLabs’ TTS documentation lists Multilingual v2 at 29 languages and Flash v2.5 at 32. It characterizes Multilingual v2 as the higher-quality, more nuanced option and Flash v2.5 as a low-latency option. Dubbing supports 90+ languages, but its language and dialect availability depends on the dubbing version. Do not treat the dubbing figure as a TTS language count.

For dubbed content, use the correct BCP-47 language tag when specifying a target. The documentation gives fr and es-MX as examples. Dubbing v2 accepts region-qualified tags only for dialects it supports; v1 does not support dialect tags. Check the version-specific list rather than assuming a regional variant is available.

How to create multilingual voice content
For a script: generate speech with TTS
- Choose the target language and determine whether you need a general language or a specific regional dialect.
- Select a TTS model whose documented language coverage includes your target. Compare its quality and latency characteristics against your use case.
- Choose a voice that matches the target language and region. If using a cloned voice, listen for pronunciation and accent shifts across languages.
- Generate a short sample first. Check names, specialist terms, pronunciation, pacing, and whether the wording sounds natural to the intended audience.
- Revise the script or voice choice where needed, then generate the full audio. The documented downloadable formats include MP3, PCM, μ-law, A-law, and Opus; quality options depend on plan.
- Review the final file and confirm that your plan and the specific feature permit your intended use before publishing.
For existing media: create a dubbed language track
- Choose the source video or audio and identify the target language or supported dialect.
- Start a dubbing project from an upload or supported URL. Keep the source asset available, particularly if you will replace its audio track later.
- Review the generated transcript and spoken output for meaning, pronunciation, speaker assignment, and timing. Check that localized phrasing preserves the intended message rather than translating words mechanically.
- Listen to the track with the original background audio. Confirm that the mix and speaker delivery work for the finished content.
- For production video, download the dubbed audio and replace the track on the original video rather than relying on the rendered Dubbing v2 video as a master.
What to review before publishing
- Accent and pronunciation: A language match alone does not guarantee a regional accent or accurate pronunciation. Review names, place names, and terms that matter to your audience.
- Meaning and context: Check idioms, humor, product terminology, and any claims that may change meaning in localization.
- Voice similarity: In dubbing, stronger voice-cloning similarity can reduce naturalness across languages with different phonetics and can preserve more of the original accent. Choose the balance that best serves the audience.
- Audio channels: Dubbing v1 outputs mono audio and v2 supports at most stereo, so a multichannel 5.1 mix is not preserved.
- Feature maturity: Dubbing v2 is described as alpha. Review its output carefully and do not assume it is suitable for every production workflow.
Dubbing limits and editing access
ElevenLabs documents different limits for its dubbing options. These are product limits, not a promise of processing time or a particular output quality.

Dubbing v2’s rendered video is a preview, commonly output at 1080p, and may not preserve the source resolution. The documentation says transcript editing and API audio regeneration for v2 are Enterprise-only. Consult the current dubbing documentation before designing a workflow around these capabilities.

Can you monetize ElevenLabs voice content?
ElevenLabs says its Free plan does not include a commercial license and cannot be used commercially. Paid plans include a commercial license only when you have the necessary intellectual-property rights and comply with applicable terms and law. Its publishing guidance also excludes Beta Services outputs from commercial and production use. Because Dubbing v2 is identified as alpha, do not assume a paid account clears its output for commercial use; check the feature-specific terms for the exact service and output before publishing.

At the time ElevenLabs’ pricing page was checked on October 7, 2026, it displayed the monthly plans and allowances below. Prices and allowances can change; verify the live pricing page before choosing a plan. Credits are shared across products, so usage in one feature draws on the same pool as other eligible products.

These are approximate listed costs, not a project-specific final bill. Estimate from your expected volume, then confirm current credit costs and plan terms on the pricing page.

- Use TTS when you have a script and need newly generated speech.
- Use dubbing when adapting recorded audio or video into another language.
- Verify the language and dialect against the particular model or dubbing version.
- Review localized speech for accent, pronunciation, and meaning before release.
- For Dubbing v2 video, use the downloaded dubbed audio with the original video for production output.
- Confirm commercial rights for the plan and feature, especially when a feature is in alpha or beta.
