Those symptoms point to different checks, so first note whether the issue affects the TV’s built-in interface and every source, or only one channel, input, or connected device.
First, narrow down what is glitching
Try the TV’s built-in menus or interface, then check another channel or input if available. If the problem appears only with one connected device or input, start with that source and its connections. If it occurs across the TV interface and multiple sources, an HDMI cable is less likely to explain the whole problem.

- Frozen or unresponsive: The screen or controls stop responding.
- Bars, lines, or shaking: The picture is distorted or unstable.
- “No Signal”: The TV is not receiving the selected source, or a broadcast signal is unavailable.
- Picture without sound, or sound without picture: Check the source and the TV’s audio/video settings and connections.
Element groups its troubleshooting by platform and symptom; the correct instructions can depend on your TV model. Start at the Element support center and identify your model before following reset directions.

Fix “No Signal” or a problem with an HDMI device
If the issue is limited to a cable box, game console, streaming device, or other external source, check the signal path before changing TV settings.

- The remote uses infrared (IR) technology, so make sure to point it at the TV’s IR sensor for it to work properly.
- Confirm the source device is powered on.
- Use the TV remote to select the input where that device is connected.
- Check that the cable is firmly connected to the device’s output and the TV’s matching input.
- Unplug and reconnect the cable at both ends. If the device is connected by HDMI, try another HDMI port on the TV.
- If the issue remains, test with a known-good cable. A High Speed HDMI cable may help diagnose or replace a faulty HDMI connection; it will not correct a weak broadcast signal or an internal TV fault.
If “No Signal” appears on broadcast channels, check whether it affects all channels. Inspect the antenna or other signal connection, and check with your provider for a reported outage before resetting the TV. Element’s support center has symptom-specific guidance.
Unfreeze a TV that stops responding
For a frozen TV, an Element manual recommends disconnecting the power cord for a few minutes, reconnecting it, and trying the TV again. This is a power reset, not proof that an underlying hardware problem has been repaired.

- Disconnect the TV’s power cord from the outlet.
- Wait a few minutes, then reconnect the cord.
- Turn the TV on and check whether it responds normally.
Check other connected electronic devices as well. If only one device or app appears to trigger the freeze, test the TV without that device connected to help isolate where the problem occurs.
Check bars, lines, or a shaking picture
Element’s manuals list nearby electrical appliances or power tools as possible sources of interference when horizontal or vertical bars appear or the picture shakes. They also advise checking for weak station signal and antenna position. These are possibilities to test, not a diagnosis.

- Turn off or move nearby appliances and power tools, then see whether the picture changes.
- If the problem is on broadcast television, check that the antenna cable is secure and reposition the antenna.
- Compare another channel or source. A problem confined to broadcast reception suggests checking the antenna or provider before changing settings for the whole TV.
When sound and picture do not match
Picture but no sound
Confirm the selected input is the one carrying the picture and check the connected source’s audio connection and settings. Element support lists power cycling and, if needed, a factory reset among the possible steps for this symptom. Use the instructions for your exact model and platform rather than assuming a menu path applies to every Element TV.
Sound but no picture
Check that the TV is on the correct input and that the source’s video connection is secure at both ends. If the device uses separate audio and video connections, verify that they correspond to the same source. Element’s guidance also includes model-specific power-cycle and reset procedures.

Use a factory reset only as a later step
Element support describes more than one reset route, including menu-based factory resets and a physical reset option on some models. A factory reset may clear user configuration, and the available procedure varies by model and platform. Check the guide for your exact model before proceeding; do not rely on a reset-button location or menu path from a different TV.
Find your model’s documentation and current guidance through the Element support center. If symptom-specific checks and the correct model-specific reset do not resolve the issue, contact Element support. Troubleshooting results can narrow the possibilities, but they do not establish that an internal component has failed.
