Most standard Samsung refrigerator shelves come out the same way: fully open the door, hold the front edge, lift gently, and slide the shelf out. The glass shelf above the crisper drawers is the exception to watch for, because it may be a simple removable shelf or a larger assembly tied to the drawer divider and water-filter housing. Identify which one you have before you pull anything, since the wrong sequence is the easiest way to strain a tab or crack glass.
Identify the shelf before you remove it
Samsung’s procedures differ by shelf location and by model, so start by matching what you see to the closest case below. The steps in each section are taken from Samsung’s own support pages; where a page covers a specific model family, that is noted.

Remove an ordinary shelf
- Fully open the refrigerator door that corresponds to the shelf. A partly open door can block the shelf from clearing the opening.
- Hold the front edge of the shelf and gently lift it while sliding it out. Do not force it or lift it higher than needed. Samsung Singapore specifically warns against lifting a shelf fully during removal or reinsertion. Samsung Singapore Support, cleaning guide for shelves and bins
- Set the shelf on a clean, flat surface before cleaning or inspecting it.
Reinstall it correctly
- Angle the shelf so its front edge is higher than its back edge.
- Place the top hook into the upper notch.
- Lower the shelf until the bottom hook engages the lower notch.
- Check that the shelf sits level and is fully seated before you put food back. Some model families must not have a shelf inserted upside down, so confirm the front and back orientation as well.

Remove the shelf above the crisper drawers
This is the shelf most people are trying to remove, and it is the one where a single sequence does not apply. Samsung describes at least two arrangements, so identify yours before you start. The Samsung US Support refrigerator shelf and drawer removal and cleaning guide covers both.

Simple arrangement
- Fully open both doors.
- Remove the crisper drawers.
- Support one side of the shelf with one hand and lift it slightly.
- Slide the shelf out with your other hand.
Divider and water-filter arrangement
- Fully open both doors, then remove the lower door bins if they block the drawers.
- Angle both crisper drawers toward the center as you slide them out.
- Locate the tabs on both sides of the drawer divider and the water-filter housing.
- Hold the housing and press the tabs inward.
- Lift the shelf out of the housing.
- Gently lift and pull the shelf free from the rear wall. Tilting one side slightly downward can help it clear the opening.
- Set the shelf on a clean, flat surface.
Work slowly here. The housing and tabs are the most likely parts to crack or bend if you pull at an angle, and the glass is heavy enough to make the rear-wall step awkward alone.
Separate glass from a plastic frame
Only try this on a shelf that has removable retaining clips. Many glass shelves are built as a single piece and are not designed to come apart, so check before you attempt anything.

Shelves with retaining clips
- Remove the shelf and turn it over.
- Lift one rear corner slightly.
- Press the tab nearest the center of the shelf, then release the clip.
- Repeat on the other side.
- Lift the glass out of the plastic frame.
Reassemble in the reverse order. Samsung Gulf Support warns that damaged clips cannot be replaced individually, and the entire shelf must be replaced if a clip is broken. Samsung Gulf Support, steps to remove the bottom glass shelf in a Samsung French door fridge (last updated 2025-03-06).

Non-separable shelves
Some shelves have no clips and are not designed to come apart. Do not pry the glass from the frame. If trapped debris remains after normal cleaning, Samsung says to soak the shelf in a water and bleach solution. Use a diluted solution and follow the manual for concentration. If the shelf still is not clean after soaking, Samsung’s guidance is that the shelf must be replaced rather than taken apart.

Clean the glass safely
- Let a cold glass shelf reach room temperature before cleaning. Samsung directs owners to avoid warm or hot water on cold glass, which can stress the glass.
- Clean with lukewarm water once the shelf has warmed.
- Handle tempered glass with care. A broken shelf can cause injury, and Samsung Australia describes these shelves as heavy, so lift with both hands and keep the glass level. Samsung Australia Support, removing the shelves and bins of a French door fridge
Model-specific exceptions
- Freezer shelves: some freezer shelves differ in length. Samsung Singapore warns against changing their positions on normal models, because doing so may damage the appliance when the door closes.
- Door cannot fully open: one Samsung care page, covering RH62, RS58, and RS62 models, describes a different approach. Slide the shelf halfway forward, turn it over, and remove it from that position. When to stop and check the manual
Stop if the shelf resists, the tabs do not match these descriptions, the frame looks unfamiliar, or the door opening is restricted. Samsung’s US guide says: “If something isn’t working or looks different, check your user manual for instructions specific to your fridge.” Use the model number on the rating label inside the refrigerator, not the general steps, as your reference.
Replacing a damaged or non-cleanable shelf
A replacement is a reasonable option in two situations: a retaining clip is broken, or a non-separable shelf cannot be cleaned adequately after soaking. Before you order, confirm three things:

- The full refrigerator model number, not just the series name.
- The shelf position, including whether it is an ordinary shelf, a crisper-area shelf, or a freezer shelf.
- Whether the shelf has a divider or water-filter housing attached.
A single replacement part number does not cover all Samsung models, so match the part to your exact model. Purchase from Samsung or a seller that lists the model compatibility clearly.
