You can download the pending attachment by hand right away, then fix the setting so future messages arrive on their own.
Find out which Messages app you use
Samsung’s menu names differ between apps, so confirm which app opens when you tap a text before you follow any steps. Samsung’s India support page notes that Samsung Messages is not pre-installed on Galaxy S25 smartphones, and that availability depends on the model and software version. If your phone opens Google Messages, use the Google Messages steps. If it opens Samsung Messages, use those instead.

Download one pending attachment manually
Start here if you need the picture now. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance describes selecting attachments manually as the way to get them when automatic downloading is unavailable or turned off.

- Tap the attachment or message card.
- Wait for the download to finish, then open the file.
Samsung’s Fold6 and Flip6 guidance states that tapping the attachment manually works even while Auto Blocker’s Maximum restrictions is turned on. Button placement can differ with app version and model, so look for the attachment itself rather than a specific button label.

Turn on automatic MMS downloads
Once you know which app you use, enable automatic downloads in that app. The two apps keep the setting in different places.
Google Messages
- Open Google Messages.
- Tap the profile icon.
- Tap Messages settings, then Advanced.
- Turn on Auto-download MMS.
Samsung Messages
- Open Samsung Messages.
- Tap More options (three vertical dots), then Settings.
- Tap More settings, then Multimedia messages.
- Turn on Download automatically.
Samsung’s general messaging support page also describes a separate, broader Auto download control for files in some Galaxy messaging contexts. That control is not the MMS-specific switch above, so change the MMS setting in the menu shown here, and expect menu names to vary by software and app version.

Check Auto Blocker’s Maximum restrictions
Samsung says the Maximum restrictions option in Auto Blocker disables automatic attachment downloads. Its purpose is to stop potentially harmful attachments from opening or downloading without your action, so the choice is a trade-off between convenience and that protection.
- Leave it on: Automatic MMS download will not fetch attachments. Tap each attachment manually when you want it.
- Turn it off: Automatic attachment downloads can resume, but you accept the weaker restriction that the setting was providing.
To check or change it, go to Settings > Security and privacy > Auto Blocker > Maximum restrictions. Samsung’s support material for this issue is at Cannot download files or access links in Messages on Galaxy phones.

Confirm mobile data and carrier service
Samsung states that MMS requires carrier support and an active data connection. A correctly configured app will still leave a message pending if either is missing. Samsung’s guide to using Samsung Messages covers the same requirement, available at How to Use Samsung Messages on Galaxy Devices.
Wi-Fi alone does not guarantee MMS delivery. Keep mobile data on while you test, and treat carrier configuration as something only the carrier can confirm.

If the message is still pending
Work through these checks in order. Samsung’s troubleshooting guide for messages that will not send or arrive lists the same basic steps, at Messages are slow, do not send, or cannot be received on Samsung phone.

- Update the phone’s software and the Messages app to the latest available version.
- Clear the cache for the Messages app you actually use. Choose the app that matches your installed messaging app, not the one you assume is installed.
- If the attachment still will not download, contact your carrier and ask them to verify your service and MMS support on the account. Carrier or service problems are among the common causes Samsung lists for messaging failures.
