If Edge Web Capture saves only what is on screen, make sure you selected Capture full page, not Capture area. Open Settings and more > Web Capture (or press Ctrl+Shift+S), choose Capture full page, review the result, then save it. If that option is missing or still produces a viewport-only image, try Edge DevTools’ full-size screenshot command.
1. Choose Capture full page, not Capture area
Edge’s Web Capture offers different capture modes. Capture area selects a region; Capture full page is the option intended to include the whole page. Microsoft’s guide describes opening Web Capture from Settings and more or with Ctrl+Shift+S, then choosing the full-page option, reviewing the image, and saving it. Microsoft’s Web Capture guide was dated January 2, 2024, and notes that functionality can change and availability can vary by region, so labels may differ on some Edge builds.

- Open the page you want to capture.
- Open Settings and more > Web Capture, or press Ctrl+Shift+S.
- Select Capture full page, not Capture area.
- Review the captured image and save it.
If your installed version does not show the full-page choice, or the saved image still contains only the visible portion, use the DevTools option below.
2. Capture a full-size screenshot with Edge DevTools
Edge DevTools has a separate full-size screenshot command. Microsoft documents it for capturing content beyond the current viewport. This route is more technical than Web Capture, but it is a useful built-in fallback when the regular full-page option is unavailable or does not give the expected result. - Open DevTools for the page. You can use F12 or Ctrl+Shift+I.
- Turn on the Device Toolbar in DevTools.
- Open the Device Toolbar’s More options menu.
- Select Capture a full size screenshot.
- Check the resulting image and save or move it as needed.
Unlike a capture limited to the visible viewport, this command is specifically documented to include content that is not currently visible on screen.
3. Check what is actually scrolling
Before repeating captures, scroll the page and note where the scrollbar or movement occurs. If the whole document scrolls, try the normal full-page command first, then DevTools. If only a sidebar, frame, or embedded panel scrolls while the surrounding page stays still, that may be relevant: a Microsoft Q&A post relays a user report of trouble with content scrolling inside a sidebar or frame. That report is anecdotal, not an authoritative confirmation of a universal Edge limitation or a verified explanation for every viewport-only capture.

Embedded PDFs, forms, and dynamically rendered pages can also behave differently from an ordinary document. The Microsoft documentation cited here does not establish that either capture method will reliably include all content in those cases. Check the result rather than assuming the entire embedded document was captured.
4. What the older selection-scrolling advice means
In a September 28, 2020 announcement, the Microsoft Edge Product Team described an earlier selection workflow: “To do this, just hold down the selection tool and drag to the bottom of the page; the page will automatically start to scroll so that you can capture everything you need in one go.” That is historical guidance about dragging the selection tool, not a substitute for the current documented Capture full page workflow.

5. When the built-in methods are not enough

- The image stops at the screen edge: Reopen Web Capture and confirm you chose Capture full page, not Capture area. If it still stops, use DevTools’ Capture a full size screenshot.
- There is no full-page option: Edge’s labels and availability can vary. Try the DevTools method; do not assume every build has the same menu.
- The content is inside a panel or frame: Check whether that inner region scrolls independently. Reports of issues in such layouts are user-reported and do not establish a general cause.
- The target is an embedded PDF or interactive form: Neither workflow is documented here as consistently capturing every embedded or dynamically rendered element. Inspect the output and use an appropriate document-specific method if it is incomplete.
