The Dyson Airwrap i.d. is the stronger fit if you want an app-guided, timed curling routine and a specific Dyson kit has the attachments you need. The Shark FlexStyle makes more sense if you want a dryer that converts into a multi-styler and have found a bundle that suits your routine. Neither is a universal winner: the best choice depends on the exact kit and how you plan to style your hair.

Which is better: the Dyson Airwrap i.d. or Shark FlexStyle?
Choose the Airwrap i.d. if you want guided curling
Dyson’s distinguishing feature is its app-connected routine. Pair the tool with the MyDyson app, create a hair profile and use the personalized sequence to time wrapping, styling and the cool shot. That may suit you if you value a guided routine over manually managing each step. It does not, by itself, prove that curls will last longer or look better.

Check the exact Airwrap i.d. kit before choosing it. The US Straight + Wavy bundle cited here includes a Conical Airwrap barrel and smoothing and volumizing tools, but bundle contents are not uniform across all Airwrap i.d. versions.
Choose the FlexStyle if you want a convertible dryer and styler
Shark’s FlexStyle changes between dryer and multi-styler form. Its bundles can include tools for curling, smoothing, volume or diffusing, but the contents vary by kit. The HD430, for example, includes paddle and oval brushes; the HD435 includes a curl-defining diffuser instead of the paddle brush. If you diffuse curls or coils, that difference may matter more than the model family name.

Compare the exact attachments, not just the brand names
Before buying either system, match the tools in the box to the styles you actually want. A bundle’s name is a clue to its intended attachments, not proof that it will perform equally well for every hair texture or technique.

- For curls: Check the barrel type and size, the number of curlers and whether you are comfortable changing barrels to switch curl direction on the FlexStyle.
- For smoothing or volume: Confirm that the kit includes the brush or smoothing attachment you expect. The US Straight + Wavy Airwrap i.d. listing and the Shark HD430 kit have different brush assortments.
- For curls and coils: Check whether a diffuser is included. The cited Shark HD435 bundle includes one; the HD430 bundle does not list one.
- For drying: Both are positioned as styling and drying systems, but that does not establish equal drying speed or identical results. Compare the configuration and tools in the precise kit you are considering.
Handling, heat claims and styling results
A Guardian comparison published March 24, 2026, reported that its reviewer found the FlexStyle noisier and heavier, with less comfortable buttons. Those are that reviewer’s subjective impressions from the comparison, not universal measurements. The review also notes that some add-on attachments were not tested.

Dyson and Shark each make manufacturer claims about heat control or heat exposure. Those claims do not establish that either tool prevents damage, and the cited product pages do not provide a controlled head-to-head result for hair damage, curl longevity, drying time or performance across hair types. Treat the published product specifications as specifications—not as evidence that one system styles better.

What about price and value?
Prices depend on country, retailer, stock and the particular bundle. The Guardian comparison page showed Dyson bundles at approximately $650 and cited Shark bundle prices when it was published on March 24, 2026; those were point-in-time listings, not dependable current prices. Check local listings before purchasing, and compare kits with similar attachments rather than comparing model names or bare units alone.
