Choose the Dygma Sonsei if your travel setup calls for a single, wireless keyboard that can sit on a laptop, a lap, or a small shared surface. Choose the ZSA Voyager if you want two separately positioned halves and included tenting legs, and you are comfortable with a wired connection. The Sonsei prioritizes a compact, all-in-one travel format; the Voyager prioritizes positioning flexibility. Neither product’s ergonomic design establishes a medical benefit, and both ask you to learn a compact columnar layout with programmable layers.

How each keyboard fits a travel setup
Sonsei: fewer pieces to position and pack
The Sonsei keeps the left and right key areas together in one unibody. That is useful when a workspace is too small or unstable for arranging separate halves: the board can be placed as one piece on a desk, lap, or over a laptop keyboard. Dygma says it chose a unibody partly because managing two halves can be awkward on cramped travel surfaces such as airplane tray tables. That is the maker’s design rationale, not a claim that every tray table or lap will suit the keyboard.
Dygma lists the board at 299 × 140 × 18.4 mm and includes a travel sleeve. The 299 mm length is the dimension most likely to matter on a narrow tray or small café table; measure the surface rather than assuming a particular seat or table will have room. The board’s 140 mm depth also affects whether it can sit behind a laptop without covering the display hinge or crowding a trackpad.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Dygma’s product-development Q&A describes the intended experience as “Pull it out. Turn it on. Start typing.” Treat that as the company’s description of its goal: you will still need to connect the keyboard, choose a device or cable mode, and be comfortable with its layout. A one-piece board also means there is no left-right cable to route across a desk and no second half to find in a bag.
Voyager: more freedom to arrange the halves
The Voyager’s two halves can be placed independently. That gives you the option to position them around other equipment or to choose a wider or otherwise different arrangement at a desk. It also means more objects and cables to manage than with one connected board. ZSA’s published dimensions are 14 cm wide, 14.5 cm deep, and 1.6 cm high with keycaps for each half. These measurements describe each half, not the full width of a particular separated setup; the space required depends on how far apart you place them.
Each half can sit on its own side of a laptop, monitor stand, or notebook. You can keep the halves close together for a compact footprint, or move them farther apart when the desk allows. That flexibility is useful only if the surface is stable and wide enough. On a tray table, the halves may need to be kept close, and the connecting cable and separate USB connections become additional items to manage.
The distinction is practical rather than absolute: a separated design can adapt to a desk arrangement, while a single body can be simpler to move between varied, cramped surfaces. If you mostly work from a stable desk, independent placement may matter more than having one piece. If you often type in places where the available surface changes, a one-piece board may be easier to deploy.
Compare the complete things you carry, not a single weight
Weight figures for these keyboards refer to different configurations, so they are not a clean like-for-like contest. Dygma’s product specification lists the Sonsei at 393 g, while its Q&A gives 399 g for the keyboard and says the keyboard with its sleeve remains under 500 g. Those are two different figures from the same manufacturer’s materials; keep their source context rather than treating either as a precisely reconciled value.
ZSA says each Voyager half weighs 217 g with its feet attached. The full packed kit weighs 678 g, including the keyboard, carrying case, three USB-C cables, TRRS cable, four legs, and metal holder. One-half weight is not the travel-kit weight, and the packed-kit figure includes accessories that have no directly equivalent all-in weight in the Sonsei figures above.
For travel, ask what you will actually bring: keyboard, sleeve or case, connection cables, tenting parts, and any holders. The Sonsei’s under-500-g keyboard-plus-sleeve statement is closer to a ready-to-pack figure, although it still does not say whether a charging cable or other personal accessories are included. Voyager’s 678-g figure is explicitly a complete packed kit, so it is the more useful number when estimating bag weight. Do not subtract the metal holder or legs unless you know you will leave them at home.

There is also a packing-volume difference. A Sonsei sleeve contains one rectangular board. A Voyager case contains two 14-cm-wide halves, cables, four magnetic legs, and a holder. The Voyager may occupy less width when its halves are separated on a desk, but its case still has to hold all of those pieces during transit.
Wireless convenience versus a wired setup
Sonsei: Bluetooth or USB
The Sonsei supports USB and Bluetooth and can connect to as many as five Bluetooth devices, according to Dygma. Its three-position switch selects off, Bluetooth, or wired mode, as described in the company’s Q&A. This makes it the documented choice between these two if you need wireless operation or regularly switch among multiple Bluetooth devices.
A practical multi-device routine might be a laptop, tablet, phone, and two work computers. The five-device figure is a maximum connection capacity, not a promise that every device will reconnect instantly or that all five can be used simultaneously. You still select the active device according to the keyboard’s controls and the instructions supplied by Dygma.
Dygma specifies a 2000 mAh battery and estimates more than 40 days of use with LEDs off, or more than eight hours of continuous use at 100% brightness. These are manufacturer estimates, not results from an independent battery test. Actual use will depend on conditions such as lighting, connection behavior, charging habits, and how the keyboard is used, so do not treat either figure as a guaranteed interval between charges. If you plan a long trip, carrying a USB charging cable is sensible even when you normally type over Bluetooth.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsVoyager: wired by design in the documented materials
ZSA’s Voyager materials describe a wired keyboard. If your setup depends on wireless typing, that is a deciding distinction: the documented Voyager configuration does not offer the Sonsei’s Bluetooth option. A wired board avoids the need to manage a keyboard battery, but requires a cable connection at the workspace. Confirm the connection and port arrangement against the current product details before purchase if your device has specific cable or adapter requirements.
Because the Voyager has two halves, cable planning matters more than with a unibody. The packed kit includes three USB-C cables and a TRRS cable, so identify which cable connects the halves and which connects the keyboard to the host before leaving home. A laptop with only one conveniently reachable port may need an adapter or hub; that requirement depends on your computer and is not included in the keyboard specifications.
Tenting, tilt, and what ergonomic features do—and do not—prove
All Voyager kits include four magnetic tenting legs. They allow the halves to be raised for a tented arrangement. The Sonsei has no built-in tenting or reverse-tilt legs. Dygma says it prioritized a thin, travel-oriented design and judged that adding legs and the wrist support it considered necessary would make the product thicker and add parts. Its explanation is in the Sonsei product Q&A.

On the Voyager, the legs are part of the documented kit rather than an accessory you must buy separately. They also add pieces that can be misplaced, so check that all four are in the case before a trip. The Sonsei’s flat construction removes that setup step: place it down and type, but without a manufacturer-provided tenting position.

So, if your setup requires tenting, the Voyager has a documented built-in option; the Sonsei is a flat unibody choice. Neither feature description shows that a keyboard will prevent, treat, or cure pain or injury. The product materials are not clinical evidence, and no independent comparative study establishing a health outcome for these two models is identified here. Choose based on the configuration you want, and seek qualified medical advice for persistent pain or other health concerns.
Layout, layers, and the adjustment you should expect
Both keyboards use a columnar arrangement, with keys organized in columns rather than the staggered rows common on many standard keyboards. Both also rely on compact layouts and programmable layers, so some less frequently used keys may be accessed through a layer rather than occupying a dedicated key in the main layout. The manufacturers’ feature pages do not establish how quickly any particular person will adapt. If you rely on a familiar full-size arrangement or use many dedicated keys, allow time to decide whether a compact layout suits your habits.
Plan for a transition period before taking either board on a critical trip. Practice common tasks such as entering passwords, using arrow keys, switching applications, and reaching punctuation. A compact board can be configured around those tasks, but the appropriate layer arrangement is personal and cannot be inferred from the key count alone.
Sonsei: thumb keys and configuration through Dygma
Dygma specifies 56 switches and eight thumb keys on the Sonsei. Thumb keys can make layer access part of the normal typing motion, but the product specifications do not say which functions are assigned at the factory or how any individual user will prefer to arrange them. Its Gateron KS-33 2.0 low-profile switches use matching hot-swap sockets; Dygma lists several switch options and offers replacement switches as an optional purchase.

Changes are stored in the Neuron, allowing the configured keyboard to be used with another computer without recreating the layout on that computer. That is distinct from whether basic typing is possible without configuration: the customization step is what requires the configurator, according to Dygma’s product materials. Before traveling, save and test the layout you intend to use, especially if you have changed layer keys or shortcuts.
Voyager: firmware-stored layouts and hot-swappable switches
ZSA says Voyager layouts, layers, and macros are saved to the keyboard firmware. Its software FAQ says basic typing does not require installing software, although setting up firmware-layout changes may depend on the operating system. This means a buyer can distinguish ordinary use from customization: you do not need to install a layout tool just to type, but changing the programmed behavior may involve setup.

Firmware storage is useful when moving between a work computer and a personal computer because the behavior travels with the keyboard. It does not remove the need to learn the layer positions, and it does not guarantee that workplace security policies will allow the configuration tools. Set up the board on a computer where you have permission to install or run the necessary tools, then verify that the saved layout works on the systems you plan to use.
Voyager switches are low-profile Kailh Choc and hot-swappable according to ZSA. The exact current switch variant and its compatibility should be verified before choosing replacements. Kailh Choc and Gateron KS-33 2.0 are separate switch families; do not treat them as interchangeable. A replacement switch must match the board’s socket and the correct low-profile specification, not merely have a similar advertised height. ZSA’s software and product information is available from its Voyager software FAQ and product page.

Airplane or train tray: Sonsei’s single body avoids finding two stable spots and routing an interconnect cable. Its listed 299-mm length still needs to fit the tray, so measure if possible. Voyager can work only if both halves and their cables fit securely without interfering with the laptop or meal surface.
Café hopping: Sonsei’s sleeve and Bluetooth mode reduce setup steps when outlets and desk space vary. Voyager avoids battery charging but requires a host cable, a half-to-half cable, and enough room to place both sides.
Hotel or home desk: Voyager’s independent halves and magnetic legs become more valuable when you can leave the setup in place. Sonsei remains simpler if you pack the keyboard each day or share the desk with someone else.
Lap typing: A connected board is less likely to slide apart, which is why Sonsei is the more straightforward documented fit for this use. The materials do not guarantee stability on every lap, and neither model includes a medical or posture outcome.

A current Voyager price and comparable shipping, warranty, or return terms are not established in the product information cited here, so there is not enough evidence for a price-versus-value verdict. Check ZSA’s current product and checkout details directly. Avoid comparing the Sonsei’s listed price with a stale or incomplete Voyager figure.
For either keyboard, budget for possible replacement switches, adapters, or a different cable only after confirming compatibility. Do not assume that a generic low-profile switch, USB-C cable, or travel case is a drop-in substitute for the maker’s specified part.
Which one fits your setup?
Choose Sonsei when
- You want one connected board rather than two halves to position.
- Bluetooth is important, including the option to connect to multiple devices.
- You expect to work on a lap, over a laptop keyboard, or on surfaces where arranging separate halves could be awkward.
- An included travel sleeve and a flat, low-profile form matter more than built-in tenting.
- You are comfortable learning a compact columnar layout and using Dygma’s configurator to change its layout.
- You want a documented 2000 mAh battery and are willing to plan around manufacturer-estimated battery life.
Choose Voyager when
- You want to position the two halves independently, particularly in a desk setup.
- Included magnetic tenting legs are a requirement.
- A wired connection works for your devices and you prefer not to manage a keyboard battery.
- You are willing to carry and arrange the separate parts in the kit.
- You value firmware-stored layouts, layers, and macros and are comfortable with setup for customization.
- The 678-g complete packed-kit figure is acceptable for your bag, even if you use only one tenting position.
Check before ordering
- Measure the actual surfaces you use, including a laptop stand, tray table, or shared desk; the Voyager’s required total spread depends on the distance between its halves.
- Check your device’s available ports and whether the included or required cable arrangement suits it.
- Confirm the current switch variant and replacement compatibility rather than relying only on a low-profile label.
- Review live pricing, stock, shipping, return, warranty, and import-cost details for your location.
- Practice the columnar layout and layer functions before relying on the keyboard for travel or work deadlines.
- Pack the Sonsei’s sleeve or the Voyager’s complete case, cables, legs, and holder rather than estimating from keyboard-only weight.
Bottom line
The Sonsei is the more straightforward travel pick when you value a single wireless board that can move between changing work surfaces. The Voyager is the better documented fit when separate positioning and included tenting are the priorities and a wired setup is acceptable. The right choice turns on where you type, how much gear you want to carry, and how you want the board arranged—not on an unproven promise of ergonomic health benefits.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does the Dygma Sonsei weigh?
Dygma lists 393 g on the Sonsei specification page. Its product Q&A separately states 399 g for the keyboard and says the keyboard plus sleeve remains under 500 g, so quote the source and figure together rather than presenting one reconciled number.
How much does the ZSA Voyager weigh?
ZSA says each half weighs 217 g with its feet attached. The complete packed kit weighs 678 g, including the keyboard, case, three USB-C cables, TRRS cable, four tenting legs, and metal holder.
Does the Sonsei support Bluetooth?
Yes. Dygma documents USB and Bluetooth operation, with connections for up to five Bluetooth devices. A three-position switch selects off, Bluetooth, or wired mode.
Does the Voyager have wireless connectivity?
ZSA’s product materials describe the Voyager as a wired keyboard. Do not buy it expecting the Sonsei’s Bluetooth mode.
Which keyboard has tenting legs?
Every documented Voyager kit includes four magnetic tenting legs. The Sonsei has no built-in tenting or reverse-tilt legs; Dygma says it prioritized a thin, simpler travel design.
Can I replace the switches?
Both boards are documented as hot-swappable, but they use different families. Sonsei uses Gateron KS-33 2.0 low-profile switches and matching sockets; Voyager uses low-profile Kailh Choc switches. Verify the exact current variant and socket compatibility before purchasing replacements.
The Bottom Line
Pick Sonsei for wireless, one-piece portability; pick Voyager for a wired split layout with included tenting. Compare complete packed kits, cable needs, surface space, switch compatibility, and current purchase terms before ordering.
