To host Dungeons, Dragons and Space Shuttles 2, freeze the exact DDSS2 release, obtain its matching server pack, install the Forge server runtime for Minecraft 1.16.5, and make every client use the identical pack and Forge profile. The current listed release is DDSS2-BETA 3.2.zip, dated August 21, 2026. Because this is a beta pack with hundreds of mods, treat backups, memory monitoring and version pinning as part of the initial setup rather than optional maintenance.
Running a modpack with friends? Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks (CurseForge, FTB, Technic) and free DDoS protection.
What DDSS2 server administrators are setting up
Dungeons, Dragons and Space Shuttles 2 (DDSS2) is a Forge modpack by Freebi85 for Minecraft 1.16.5. CurseForge lists DDSS2-BETA 3.2.zip as the latest release on August 21, 2026. Write that release name down before downloading anything; a client, server pack and configuration set from different releases can produce missing-mod errors, registry mismatches or failed connections.

The project is not a small collection of convenience mods. Its description calls it “an absolutely massive, mind-blowing Hardcore Adventure and Tech/Magic Quest pack.” The same description reports over 330 mods — Freebi85/CurseForge, 2026, over 1,204 quests — Freebi85/CurseForge, 2026, seven progression ages covering tiers 0 through 6, more than 25 dimensions, more than 50 custom machines, more than 100 custom items and more than 150,000 custom recipes. Those figures explain why a DDSS2 server needs more planning than a vanilla world.
Requirements and decisions before downloading
Choose where the server will run
- Self-hosting: You control the operating system, Java installation, files, configuration, backups and update schedule. You also carry responsibility for hardware, network exposure, security and troubleshooting.
- Managed hosting: A provider supplies the machine and usually a control panel, backups or support. You trade some low-level control for simpler deployment and a recurring bill.
For either approach, decide who will administer operators and whitelists, how often the world will be backed up, which region should host the machine, and whether the group wants to remain on the beta release until a later update is deliberately tested.

Record the version tuple
Create a short note containing the DDSS2 release, Minecraft version, Forge profile or build, server-pack filename and installation date. The verified game target is Minecraft 1.16.5 and the listed pack is DDSS2-BETA 3.2.zip. The exact Forge build and server-pack filename are not exposed on the public project page, so record those values from the downloaded artifact rather than guessing them.
Plan storage and access
Use a dedicated server directory, not the same folder as a personal client instance. Give the server account permission to read and write that directory, reserve space for the world and logs, and decide how administrators will reach the console. Keep the directory outside ordinary user downloads so an accidental cleanup does not remove the world.

Where to obtain the DDSS2 server pack
A server pack is the clean deployment bundle intended for a host. It normally contains the server-side mods, configuration files and launch material needed to create a world without copying a player’s entire client installation. CurseForge documents the server-pack concept, but the public DDSS2 project page does not expose the exact server-pack filename.
- Open the DDSS2 project’s Files tab and filter or inspect the files associated with the recorded DDSS2-BETA 3.2 release.
- Confirm that the download is identified as a server pack or server deployment artifact, not merely the client modpack ZIP.
- Compare the filename and release date with your version note. Do not rename a file in a way that hides its release identity.
- If no unambiguous server artifact is visible, check the author’s Discord community for the current server-pack announcement and verify that the file belongs to Freebi85’s DDSS2 project.
Do not substitute a generic Forge server folder or a server pack from another DDSS2 release. If the only available download is unclear, stop at this stage and verify it through the official Files tab or the author’s Discord rather than trying to assemble 330-plus mods manually.
How to set up a DDSS2 server step by step
1. Prepare a clean directory
Create a new, dedicated directory for the server and unpack the verified server pack into it. Avoid paths protected by the operating system or synchronized folders that can lock files while the server is running. Keep the original ZIP in a separate archive so you can identify exactly which release produced the installation.

2. Install the required Forge server runtime
Install the Forge server runtime for the pack’s Minecraft version, 1.16.5. The required Forge build must come from the DDSS2 server pack instructions or its bundled files; the public project listing does not establish a single build number that should be invented here. If the pack includes a launch script, use that script after unpacking. Do not replace it with a launcher from a different release.
3. Start once to generate files
Run the supplied launch script or the server launcher specified by the pack. The first run may create the world directory, configuration folders, logs and an EULA file. Watch the console for a clean Forge startup and stop the process through the console rather than closing the terminal window. A clean stop allows region and player data to flush correctly.
4. Accept the Minecraft EULA
Read the EULA file generated in the server directory. If your community accepts it, change the EULA setting as instructed in that file and save it. If the server stops before creating the file, inspect the console and Java error output instead of repeatedly launching an unchanged installation.
5. Configure server.properties
Set the ordinary Minecraft administration values that fit your group:
- Server name and message: identify the community and the DDSS2 release.
- Difficulty: select the level agreed by the players; DDSS2 is categorized as Hardcore, so establish whether your community wants additional house rules.
- Whitelist: enable it for a private group and add players deliberately.
- View distance: begin conservatively and increase it only after observing tick time and memory use.
- Operator access: grant operator status only to trusted administrators. Operator permissions can alter or delete worlds.
The DDSS2 sources do not publish pack-specific values for these properties. Treat the settings above as administrative choices, not official DDSS2 defaults.

6. Start, generate and verify the world
Start the server again and wait for the console to report that it is ready. Confirm that the world, player-data folders and logs are being written in the expected directory. Join locally or from the same network before opening the server to the internet. Check that quests, dimensions and modded blocks load rather than testing only whether a player can see the spawn area.
7. Secure network access
If remote players are joining, expose only the port and address required by your network design, keep the operating system and Java installation patched, and use a whitelist for a private server. Do not publish operator credentials or leave an administration console accessible to untrusted users. A managed host may provide firewall and panel controls, but you still need to review its permissions and backup policy.
8. Make a first backup
Stop the server cleanly and copy the world, configuration and relevant server files to a separate disk or storage account. Label the backup with the DDSS2 release and date. Test that the archive can be opened before allowing a large group to progress.
How players connect without version errors
Every player must install the same DDSS2 release and Forge profile as the server. A vanilla client, a different Minecraft version or a near-identical modpack release is not compatible merely because it has a similar name.

- Have them install the DDSS2 profile through their launcher and avoid adding or removing mods unless the administrator has approved the change.
- Distribute the server address privately and tell players whether a whitelist entry is required.
- When using CurseForge’s hosted workflow, use its server-profile import feature. CurseForge says an invited player can import a profile containing the modpack, IP address and connection details through its app.
If a player reaches the server but is rejected during login, compare the client’s mod and configuration files with the server’s files before changing Java arguments or deleting the world.

How much RAM does a DDSS2 server need?
There is no verified DDSS2 statement establishing one universal RAM minimum. The pack’s size means a small vanilla-server profile should not be treated as a safe baseline. Monitor allocated memory, actual usage, CPU load, garbage-collection pauses and tick time while players explore new terrain and dimensions.
Use these observations to choose capacity:
- Memory pressure: repeated out-of-memory errors, aggressive garbage collection or a process that reaches its limit indicates that the allocation or host plan is too small.
- CPU pressure: high processor use and rising tick time while memory remains available points to world generation, machines, entities or other workload rather than simply needing more RAM.
- Storage pressure: exploration of many dimensions and new chunks can grow the world quickly; monitor free space and backup size.
- Player load: test with the expected number of concurrent players. A setup that works for one administrator may fail when several players generate terrain in different dimensions.
Do not allocate all host memory to Java. Leave operating-system headroom for file caching, monitoring and other services, and change one resource setting at a time so you can identify the cause of a performance change.

| Decision factor | Self-hosted DDSS2 | Managed DDSS2 host |
|---|---|---|
| Installation effort | You obtain the server pack, install Forge, configure the machine and troubleshoot startup. | A panel or installer may deploy the pack, but you must still select and verify the correct release. |
| File and configuration control | Full access to mods, configs, logs, scripts and backups. | Usually panel and file-manager access; restrictions depend on the provider. |
| Memory and CPU headroom | Determined by hardware you own or rent; you can measure and upgrade it directly. | Bound by the selected plan and the provider’s node; advertised resources and limits require verification. |
| Latency | Depends on your home or rented machine’s network and location. | Choose from the provider’s available regions; confirm actual coverage before purchase. |
| Backups and support | You schedule, store and test backups and provide your own support. | The host may offer automated backups and support, but inspect retention, restore fees and response terms. |
| Monthly cost | Hardware, electricity or an independent server rental determine the cost. | CurseForge’s documented hosted tiers list Iron at $12 per month for 4 GB RAM, Gold at $24 per month for 8 GB, and Diamond at $36 per month for 12 GB. Prices and availability can change and should be rechecked before purchase. |
| Beta pinning and rollback | You can archive the ZIP, world and configs and decide when to update. | Confirm that the panel lets you pin DDSS2-BETA 3.2 and restore a backup before changing releases. |
CurseForge’s hosted workflow has five stages: choose the modpack and matching server pack, choose a plan, choose a region, enter server details and purchase. The service is powered by Shockbyte and billed through Tebex according to the published guide. Treat the listed prices as time-sensitive rather than permanent specifications.

Updating a beta DDSS2 server safely
Pin before you change anything
Keep the current release ZIP, server-pack archive, Forge details, configuration directory and a tested world backup. Record the date and the reason for the update. A beta label means a later pack can alter mods, recipes, quests or world behavior; it should not be treated as a drop-in patch.
Test on a copy
Duplicate the server directory and restore a copy of the world into a staging instance. Apply the new server pack there, start it once, inspect logs and test representative machines, quests, dimensions and player inventories. Never use your only live world as the first test of a new beta.
Best Value
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
Coordinate the client update
Tell players exactly when the server will stop and which release they must install. Keep the old client profile available until the new server has passed testing. If the update fails, stop the test instance, restore the previous files and world backup, and return clients to the pinned release.
DDSS2 server troubleshooting
“Client cannot connect” or a mod-list mismatch
- Compare Minecraft 1.16.5, Forge, DDSS2-BETA 3.2 and the server address.
- Compare the client’s mod and configuration files with the server pack; remove unauthorized client-only changes.
- Check the server log for the first missing-mod, registry or dependency error rather than the final disconnect message.
- Confirm that the player is whitelisted and that the network port is reachable.
The server pack is missing or appears to be the wrong file
Return to the official DDSS2 Files tab and the author’s Discord. The public project page does not establish a single server-pack filename, so do not rename a client ZIP and assume it is suitable for a dedicated server.
Startup takes a long time or the server lags
Large mod, recipe and dimension catalogs can lengthen startup and increase background work. Watch memory, CPU and tick time while reproducing the problem. Lower view distance, limit simultaneous exploration and review entity or machine-heavy areas before blindly adding RAM. Keep logs from a slow start so you can distinguish one-time world generation from recurring tick delay.
Players installed the wrong profile
For a CurseForge-hosted server, send an invitation and have players use the app’s server-profile import. For self-hosting, distribute the exact release and Forge information manually and ask players to create a clean profile rather than modifying an unrelated instance.
An update breaks the world
Stop the server, preserve the broken directory for diagnosis, and restore the last known-good world and server files. Do not continue writing to the only backup while experimenting. Re-test the update on a copy and postpone the live change until the pack and client profiles are aligned.
Launch-day checklist
- DDSS2 release and server-pack artifact are recorded and match.
- Minecraft and Forge versions are confirmed for both server and clients.
- The server starts, stops cleanly and writes world and log files.
- EULA, difficulty, whitelist, view distance and operator permissions match community rules.
- A remote player has connected successfully using a clean, matching profile.
- Memory, CPU, tick time, storage and backup jobs are being monitored.
- A restorable backup exists before anyone begins significant progression.
With those checks complete, DDSS2 can be administered as a pinned, repeatable Forge deployment instead of an improvised mod folder. Keep the release identity attached to every backup and update, because that single practice makes connection errors and beta rollbacks much easier to recover from.
