Dune: Awakening’s Steam listing describes an open-world survival game set in the Dune universe, with adventure and RPG gameplay. That framing makes it the more natural fit if you want the setting and a sense of an authored world to be central to your choice. Steam lists both single-player and online co-op.

Rust is a player-driven survival sandbox
Rust’s official Steam description focuses on surviving environmental threats and other survivors, scavenging, and finding shelter. Its feature listing also highlights base building, raiding, cooperation, trading, online PvP, and co-op. That combination points toward a more open-ended loop in which what you build—and what other players do to it—can shape your experience.

Solo play and multiplayer pressure
If you want an option that is explicitly listed for single-player, Dune: Awakening has the clearer case: Steam lists single-player alongside online co-op. That label establishes a listed mode, but it does not by itself describe how every part of the game plays solo.
Rust puts encounters with other survivors at the heart of its official description. Its feature listing includes both PvP and co-op, as well as cooperation, trade, and raiding. Expect the social side—whether hostile or cooperative—to be a central part of the game’s stated appeal rather than a peripheral feature.

Platforms, release dates, and cross-play
Dune: Awakening launched on PC in June 2025. Bandai Namco Europe announced its PlayStation 5 and Xbox release for September 22, 2026. Funcom’s official site reported that Update 1.5 was available across platforms on September 17, 2026. Rust’s Steam listing gives February 8, 2018 as its release date. The sources used here do not establish its complete current console platform availability, so check the relevant platform’s current store listing before deciding.

Rust’s current Steam listing says it has received over 395 content updates and guarantees a content patch every month. It describes updates spanning areas such as balance, AI, graphics, environments, maps, weapons, vehicles, and utilities. This is the wording of a live listing, not a dated annual report, so the count may change. It also cannot establish that Rust receives more support than Dune: Awakening: there is no comparable Dune update total in the official sources cited here.
