DualSense and Remote Play are different kinds of things

Is there a new “DualSense 2.0” controller?
Sony’s official DualSense product and support pages reviewed here do not identify a separate product called “DualSense 2.0.” The phrase in the title should not be taken as confirmation that a new controller has launched. Sony’s 2025 announcement about registering a controller to multiple devices describes a pairing capability, not a new DualSense generation.

Can you use DualSense with PS Remote Play?
Yes, on supported device and operating-system combinations. Sony lists DualSense among the controller options for Remote Play on supported computers and mobile devices. Its DualSense page also describes connecting to compatible PCs, Macs, and mobile devices by USB or Bluetooth. Check Sony’s compatibility information for the client device you plan to use.

Haptic feedback and adaptive triggers depend on game and device support, so do not assume that connecting a DualSense makes every PS5 controller feature available in every streaming setup.

Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
What you need to use Remote Play
Remote Play sends gameplay from your console to a compatible client device. You need a PS4 or PS5 console, a compatible device and the Remote Play app or supported service for that device, a network connection, and the account and configuration Sony specifies. Sony requires broadband and notes that the experience can vary with network conditions. Consult the current Remote Play requirements for supported devices and setup details.
A DualSense is one input option, not a universal prerequisite. Sony’s Remote Play information also covers other supported controllers and, for some uses, on-screen controls. Choose an input method that works with your device and the game you want to play.

What changed with controller pairing in 2025?
In a system-update announcement dated July 23, 2025 and updated September 16, 2025, Sony said DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers could be registered to as many as four devices and switched between using a button combination. Sony gave connecting a smartphone for Remote Play as an example. This makes moving a controller between devices more convenient; it does not turn Remote Play into a controller or establish a “DualSense 2.0” launch. See Sony’s system software update announcement.

Buy one if you need a compatible physical controller for your setup; you do not need to buy one solely because you use Remote Play if your device and game work with another supported input method. If charging convenience is the issue, Sony says its DualSense charging station can dock up to two controllers. It is an optional accessory, not a Remote Play requirement.
