Droid ASC (ASC) is an Android decompiler front end built for targeted queries: listing APK classes, decoding a manifest, searching references, and extracting selected classes. Its author says this on-demand approach can make some searches much faster than JADX and support parallel analysis of multiple APKs. Those performance and workflow claims come from the project’s own reports, not an independent benchmark, so treat ASC as a tool worth evaluating against your own tasks—not as a proven replacement for JADX.
What Droid ASC does
ASC is a command-line tool for inspecting Android APK and DEX contents without first producing and indexing a complete decompilation, according to its GitHub repository and the project author’s DEV article. The repository describes it as a front end for agents and mobile researchers. It also credits Androguard as the Android reverse-engineering and DEX-analysis foundation.

Documented operations

The repository documents installation through PyPI or from source. Consult its current instructions for the exact package and commands before installing, since installation details can change.
How the project describes its approach
The project says ASC probes within the APK’s Deflate stream rather than fully inflating the archive, uses patterns it associates with R8’s output layout, maps bytecode offsets to methods with a constant-time primitive, and reconstructs a minimal DEX in memory for a requested target. These are descriptions of the project’s implementation, not independently verified findings.

The practical distinction is between asking for a narrow result and preparing a broad decompiled-code workspace. Targeted extraction and reference searches may suit an agent workflow that needs a few classes or symbols at a time. A complete decompilation may still be more useful when you need to browse, search, and cross-check a large codebase repeatedly or want a conventional project-wide output.
What the published speed figures show—and do not show
WeiMin Cheng’s September 21, 2026 DEV article reports global cross-reference searches taking about 400 ms on an approximately 50 MB APK and 1.79 seconds on a 300 MB APK, describing those results as 41 and 269 times faster than JADX, respectively. The article does not establish an independently reproduced, controlled comparison.

The ASC repository separately describes a demonstration on a 352 MB commercial APK: 1.79 seconds for global cross-reference searches, 177 milliseconds to decompile target classes, and 141 MB of RAM. These are project-published demonstration figures, not an external evaluation. The reviewed sources do not provide a full reproducibility protocol or enough information to treat the numbers as general performance guarantees.
Search speed alone does not determine which tool is better. A useful comparison also checks whether each tool finds the same references, whether the extracted code is usable for the investigation, how much memory it consumes, and whether either tool fails on the APK. The sources describe ASC-side claims but do not supply an independent apples-to-apples dataset covering those factors.

Does ASC replace JADX or JADX MCP?
That depends on the job. The author says ASC replaced JADX MCP in their workflow, but this is a personal report, not evidence that ASC replaces JADX for every user or task. ASC’s documented operations make it a candidate for targeted class extraction and reference queries. JADX may remain preferable when your workflow depends on whole-project decompilation, broad browsing, or output formats and integrations that ASC does not document.
For a meaningful decision, run both tools on the same APK, machine, and task, using recorded software versions. Measure elapsed time and memory, then compare result quality and failed runs. Keep whole-project loading separate from targeted extraction and global reference search: they are different tasks, and a result for one should not be presented as a general speed comparison.

What the parallel-analysis report establishes
Cheng’s article recounts a two-day workflow that analyzed nearly 100 APK, JAR, and APEX files on a Xiaomi device, and attributes security findings to that work. This remains the author’s account; the reviewed sources do not establish independent validation of those findings. The report illustrates the intended use case—querying multiple files in a workflow—but does not by itself show how another user’s hardware, APK set, or analysis process will perform.

What is and is not independently confirmed
The project documentation and author article establish what ASC is intended to do and what its creators report about speed and workflow. They do not establish independent benchmark replication or external validation of the described security findings. The DEV article also says ASC was accepted into the 2026 Black Hat Arsenal; the official Black Hat Europe 2026 Arsenal schedule page reviewed showed “No sessions found,” so that page does not confirm the claim.
