What the build requirements do—and do not—tell you
The build documentation lists CMake 3.21 or newer, a C++20 compiler, Qt 6.10 or newer, and FFmpeg 8.x, along with supporting libraries. Those are developer build dependencies, not minimum requirements for someone installing a packaged editor. The documentation does not establish the minimum hardware needed to run Drift smoothly or how it performs on a particular computer.
ONNX Runtime is used for auto-subtitles and related machine-learning features and is supplied as an addon, according to the build documentation. This is a technical implementation detail, not a guarantee about subtitle accuracy or speed.

Is Drift a fit for your editing workflow?
Drift is worth considering if you want a free, open-source editor whose advertised workflow includes multiple tracks, captions, effects, audio tools, compositing, and project packaging. Its breadth may suit creators moving beyond simple trims, but the available project information does not establish how easy the tools are to learn or how well the editor performs on your hardware.
Quick Recap
- Consider it if the listed tools match your project and you are comfortable checking current platform packages and trying the editor on your own system.
- Check first if you depend on a particular export setting, addon, operating-system package, or advanced feature; confirm it in the current release and documentation.
- Do not infer speed, stability, compatibility with a specific device, or comparative quality from the feature list alone. The official build dependencies are not consumer system requirements.
