DreamHost gives you a choice between lower-cost WordPress hosting and its managed DreamPress service; WP Engine focuses on managed WordPress hosting. Choose by comparing the specific plan’s full cost, renewal price, site capacity, backups, migration help, staging, and support with what your sites actually need. The providers’ published features do not establish which host is faster or more reliable in independent testing.

How DreamHost’s WordPress plans differ
Standard WordPress Hosting
DreamHost lists three standard WordPress Hosting tiers. The prices are monthly equivalents for a four-year promotional term, with the entire term plus applicable taxes charged at checkout—not month-to-month introductory rates. The listed renewal price applies after that promotional term.

| Plan | Promotional price | Renewal price | Sites | NVMe storage | Monthly visit allowance |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Launch | $1.99/month equivalent for the first four years | $7.99/month | 25 | 25 GB | 40,000 |
| Growth | $3.49/month equivalent for the first four years | $8.99/month | 50 | 50 GB | 200,000 |
| Scale | $7.99/month equivalent for the first four years | $19.99/month | 100 | 100 GB | 400,000 |
DreamHost lists unmetered bandwidth, daily automated backups, free SSL, and a 30-day money-back guarantee for these plans. Email is free for three months and billed separately afterward. The provider says an eligible plan includes a domain for the first year. Check the DreamHost WordPress plan page for the current eligibility terms and checkout total.
#1 Best Overall
Managed DreamPress
DreamPress is DreamHost’s managed WordPress line, with a different price and feature structure from standard WordPress Hosting. DreamPress 1 is listed at $14.99 per month for the first year and $19.99 per month on renewal. It includes one site, 15 GB of NVMe storage, a 40,000-visit monthly allowance, 14-day backup retention, and one professional migration.
Higher DreamPress tiers list larger site, storage, visitor, and migration allowances. The comparison shows 14-day backup retention on smaller tiers and 30 days on larger listed tiers. DreamHost also describes DreamPress features such as on-demand and locked backups, one-click staging, CDN, failover protection, and 24/7 WordPress expert support. Because inclusions vary by tier, verify each item against the plan you intend to buy. See the DreamPress plan page.

What WP Engine lists in its managed plans
WP Engine’s small-business pricing page lists starting prices of $30 per month for Startup, $55 for Professional, $109 for Growth, $276 for Scale, and $400 for Core Hosting. These are provider-listed starting prices, not a complete comparison of the total cost for every billing term or configuration. Confirm the current billing basis, plan limits, and checkout price on WP Engine’s plans page.
WP Engine describes its plans as including daily and on-demand backups, auto-renewing SSL, SSH access, security patching and plugin risk scans, EverCache site-speed features, one-click staging and development environments, DDoS protection, transferable sites, and automated deployments with GitHub Actions. These are listed provider features; check the selected plan for the precise limits and availability.
Rank #3
WP Engine describes its technical team as offering 24/7 support for performance, security, and uptime. That is the company’s description of its service, not an independent comparison with DreamHost. Its support page has the provider’s current details.
How to choose a plan for your sites
Compare the same billing period and the real total
Do not compare a four-year promotional monthly equivalent directly with a first-year price or a starting price that may use a different billing basis. Work out the amount due at checkout, the length of the commitment, applicable taxes, the renewal price, and any extras you need. A low introductory figure can be less useful than the renewal rate if you expect to keep the site for several years.
Rank #4
Match capacity to your actual workload
For each candidate plan, check the number of sites you need to host, storage available, and expected visits against its stated allowance. DreamHost publishes those figures for the standard WordPress tiers and some DreamPress tiers. The cited WP Engine pricing information does not give enough plan-specific capacity figures to make a like-for-like numerical comparison, so confirm them directly before deciding.
Decide how much management you want
If you want a managed WordPress environment, compare the tasks and tools each exact plan includes: backups and restore options, staging, migration assistance, security features, deployment workflows, and WordPress-focused support. WP Engine’s listed toolset may matter to teams that use staging and automated deployments. DreamPress may suit readers who want DreamHost’s managed WordPress offering. Neither feature list by itself proves better outcomes for every site.

Check recovery and support details
Look beyond the phrase “daily backups.” Confirm how long backups are retained, whether on-demand backups are available, how restoration works, and whether migration help is included. Also verify the support hours and channels that apply to your plan. DreamPress publishes retention periods for its tiers; the WP Engine details cited here do not establish equivalent plan-by-plan retention periods.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which host should you choose?
- Consider DreamHost standard WordPress Hosting if its published site, storage, and visit allowances fit your needs and you are comfortable with the four-year upfront term and later renewal pricing.
- Consider DreamPress if you want DreamHost’s managed WordPress service and the specific plan’s support, migration, backup, and staging features justify its higher first-year price for your use case.
- Consider WP Engine if its managed WordPress features—such as staging, plugin risk scans, or GitHub Actions deployments—match your workflow and the specific plan’s capacity and total cost work for you.
No independent controlled head-to-head test is established by the cited pages, so there is not enough evidence to call either host the faster or more reliable choice. Make the decision on the exact plan, billing commitment, capacity, recovery options, and support you will actually receive.
Sources and pricing freshness

The figures and feature descriptions in this comparison reflect provider pages accessed October 7, 2026; confirm them with DreamHost and WP Engine before purchase.
