DreamHost Shared Hosting Review: Is It Worth It in 2026?

DreamHost’s Launch, Growth, and Scale shared plans offer low first-year pricing, but renewal rates and paid email after a three-month trial matter to the real cost.

DreamHost can be worth considering if you want an affordable first-year price, several websites on one account, daily backups, and free SSL—but the renewal rate and paid email can change the value considerably. Its current shared-hosting product is called Web Hosting, with Launch, Growth, and Scale plans. The prices below are the USD annual offers shown on DreamHost’s pricing page on October 7, 2026; check the live offer and checkout total before buying.

What DreamHost shared hosting is called now

DreamHost still offers shared hosting, but new customers should look for Web Hosting, not the legacy Shared Starter or Shared Unlimited names. The current lineup is Launch, Growth, and Scale. DreamHost described the replacement lineup as a major upgrade in its October 2, 2025 announcement; that is the company’s promotional characterization, not an independent performance assessment. DreamHost’s plan announcement and its current hosting overview show the present naming.

Shared hosting places multiple customers’ sites on shared server resources. It can keep entry costs low, but it is not the same as having dedicated CPU and memory reserved for your site. The plan names and basic shared-resource model are explained in DreamHost’s hosting plan types documentation.

How much does DreamHost cost after the first year?

DreamHost’s pricing page displayed these USD one-year offers on October 7, 2026. The promotional monthly figure is billed as part of an upfront annual payment; the renewal figure applies after the first year. Taxes are added at checkout, and prices can change.

Plan First-year offer Annual renewal Websites Storage Estimated monthly visits Mailboxes free for three months
Launch $2.89/month for year one $10.99/month 25 25 GB NVMe SSD 40,000 20
Growth $3.99/month for year one $12.99/month 50 50 GB 200,000 40
Scale $9.99/month for year one $25.99/month 100 100 GB 400,000 60

These are plan-card figures, not a guaranteed quote. DreamHost says annual and multi-year terms are paid upfront, while monthly billing is also available. The offer includes unmetered bandwidth, daily automated backups, and unlimited free SSL certificates on all three plans. An eligible annual plan also includes a domain free for one year; domain renewal is separate. Confirm the term, renewal rates, domain charges, and taxes shown at checkout on DreamHost’s current pricing page.

Which tier fits?

  • Launch: The lowest entry price and 25 website slots make it the basic option for a small portfolio, blog, or modest business site that fits within 25 GB of storage.
  • Growth: The middle tier offers twice Launch’s listed storage and a higher estimated traffic capacity, making it the more plausible choice when you expect to host more sites or receive substantially more visits.
  • Scale: This tier raises the website count and listed capacity again, but its renewal is considerably higher. Choose it only if the added limits matter to your needs; the estimate is not a performance guarantee.

DreamHost’s support overview lists website and storage limits of 25/50/100 websites and 25/50/100 GB for Launch, Growth, and Scale. Its support documentation also lists subdomain and database counts that differ in some respects from live plan-card details, so avoid treating every specification published across the two pages as one synchronized table. For the offer and limits above, use the live pricing card and review the Web Hosting overview for its operational notes.

Does DreamHost include email?

Email is a three-month trial, not a permanently free mailbox benefit. The plan cards list 20, 40, or 60 mailboxes for the trial period on Launch, Growth, or Scale, respectively. DreamHost says a paid email plan is added automatically after the trial if you continue the service. If you need a business address such as name@yourdomain, include that ongoing charge in your budget and check the terms on the pricing page.

What “unmetered bandwidth” does—and does not—mean

DreamHost describes bandwidth as unmetered, with no per-gigabyte overage fee, but that does not mean every shared resource is unlimited or that a site can handle any traffic pattern. The listed monthly-visit figures are capacity guidance, and fair-use and resource policies apply. CPU and RAM are shared; unusually high usage by another site can potentially slow yours. DreamHost’s hosting-plan documentation explains the shared-resource model.

Storage is also a real limit. DreamHost says that if a site exceeds its plan’s storage allowance, the site remains online, but uploads, one-click installs, and other actions that write to disk may fail until usage is brought back under the limit. Check media, backups, and other stored files as a site grows.

WordPress migration and backups

DreamHost offers a free automated migration plugin for WordPress sites. Moving a non-WordPress site is less turnkey: it may require a manual migration or paid Pro Services, and migrations from proprietary website builders or Windows ASP sites may cost extra. The current pricing FAQ describes migration options at DreamHost’s pricing page.

All three plans list daily automated backups. This is useful protection, but it should not be confused with an independently tested restore process or a substitute for keeping a separate copy of important site data.

Refund terms and the uptime guarantee

DreamHost’s current support policy says new Web Hosting fees are fully refundable if you cancel within 30 days of opening the account. For a qualifying cancellation within 30 days of an annual renewal, the policy describes an account credit for the current subscription cost rather than the same new-account refund. Read the conditions in DreamHost’s refund and account credit policy before relying on a refund.

DreamHost advertises a “100% Uptime Guarantee.” That is the company’s guarantee, not evidence that a customer site will achieve 100% uptime. The terms determine eligibility and remedy. No independent current uptime dataset or performance test is available here, so this review does not rank DreamHost’s real-world speed or reliability.

Is DreamHost worth it?

DreamHost is most appealing when the first-year price, multiple-site allowance, backups, SSL, and WordPress migration option match what you need—and you have priced the renewal and email separately. The value is less compelling if you need a permanently included mailbox, want predictable dedicated resources, or would exceed the plan’s storage and practical shared-hosting capacity. A higher traffic estimate alone does not establish that a shared plan will deliver a particular speed or uptime.

For a small site or a group of low-demand sites, compare Launch and Growth on the basis of renewal-inclusive cost and storage rather than the introductory monthly figure alone. Scale is a higher-cost step for buyers who need its larger listed limits. If you need managed WordPress capabilities beyond the shared Web Hosting offer, compare those requirements separately instead of assuming a shared plan includes them.
