Square Enix has not published measured load-time comparisons, so there is no reliable number of seconds or percentage by which loading is faster than on the original Switch.

Which mode should you choose?
Choose Performance for smoother motion
Performance mode is the option to try if you value a higher frame rate during movement and combat. Its listed target is 60fps at 1080p.

Choose Graphics for a sharper image
Graphics mode prioritizes resolution, with a listed 1440p target at 30fps. Choose it if image detail matters more to you than the higher frame-rate target.
The two specifications describe a straightforward trade-off: Performance favors frame rate; Graphics favors image quality. The sources do not provide a scene-by-scene breakdown or independent testing that would establish how consistently either target is maintained.

Are load times faster on Switch 2?
Square Enix’s published materials reviewed here do not give measured load times or a controlled comparison between the Switch and Switch 2 editions, or between the two Switch 2 modes. That means there is no supported figure for how many seconds a load takes or how much time the newer edition saves. A faster console alone is not enough evidence to promise a particular improvement.
For a meaningful comparison, a test would need to time the same transitions under comparable conditions on both editions. Until reliable measurements are published, treat any specific seconds-saved claim as unverified.

What changes between the Switch and Switch 2 editions?
Square Enix says the game content remains the same, while graphics specifications differ by console. Its release notice describes the selectable image-quality and frame-rate modes as additions for the Switch 2 edition. This is a graphics and presentation upgrade, not a claim that the Switch 2 release adds different story content. See the official Japanese release notice.
Release, Japanese price, and physical-edition requirements
The Switch 2 edition launched on September 24, 2026. Square Enix announced a Japanese standard-edition price of ¥5,478 including tax; that is a Japan-specific price, not a global price. The Japanese physical package is a key card rather than a card containing the full game software. According to the Square Enix e-STORE Japan listing, the game downloads the first time it is played, requiring an internet connection and at least 30 GB of free storage. The listing says the storage requirement may change. These format and price details apply to the Japanese release; they do not establish what physical format or price is offered in other regions.

Can you transfer your Switch save?
Square Enix’s official FAQ on save-data transfers says demo save data cannot be transferred across platforms, specifically noting that a Nintendo Switch demo save cannot be carried over to the Switch 2 retail version. Separately, Nintendo Life reported that existing save data from the Switch retail version is incompatible with the Switch 2 edition; that retail-save detail is reported by the outlet, rather than established by the FAQ’s demo example.
