On Windows, check EA’s published PC requirements, repair the installed game files, and then test likely software and graphics settings one at a time. These are general troubleshooting steps from EA, not guaranteed fixes for every Veilguard crash.
Start with the platform and the failure stage
The right steps depend on whether you play on Windows PC, PlayStation, or Xbox. Note whether the game closes before a window appears, fails while starting or loading, or crashes after you begin playing. Record any error message exactly. EA’s crashing and freezing support hub routes players to platform-specific guidance.

Do not apply Windows driver or launcher instructions to a console. For PlayStation or Xbox, use the matching route in EA’s support hub; the available EA material does not establish a current console-specific menu sequence to reproduce here.
Check whether your PC meets the requirements
EA’s published Windows requirements are a compatibility baseline, not a diagnosis of why a particular copy crashes. Compare your system with the listed minimums before changing settings:

Steam expresses the storage distinction as “SSD Preferred, HDD Supported” for minimum settings and “SSD Required” for recommended settings in its store listing. Check that the installation drive has the required free space. EA also specifies AGESA 1207 or newer for the listed AMD AM4 CPU configurations.
EA says an online connection is not required to play on PC. Do not treat permanent internet access as a general launch prerequisite; investigate connectivity if the error message specifically points to an account, storefront, or connection problem. An SSD may be necessary to meet the relevant storage specification, but buying one is not an established crash remedy. Verify your PC’s drive interface and compatibility before choosing hardware.

Repair the game files in your launcher
EA app
- Open the EA app and select Library.
- Open the menu on the Dragon Age: The Veilguard game tile.
- Select Repair, then let the check finish before launching again.
EA recommends repair for games that will not load in its loading troubleshooting guidance. If you installed the game through another storefront, use that storefront’s supported file verification or repair feature; menu names vary, so follow its current instructions rather than assuming the EA app path applies.
Test the EA app overlay and background software
Temporarily disable the EA app overlay
EA notes that the in-game overlay can sometimes contribute to crashes. If you launch through the EA app, turn the overlay off temporarily and retry. This is a diagnostic test, not a guaranteed Veilguard fix; if it makes no difference, you can restore the setting.

Close background apps, then consider a clean boot
Close other applications and retry the game. If the problem remains, EA’s PC crashing guidance recommends a clean boot to check whether background tasks are interfering. A clean boot changes which services and startup apps run, so follow Microsoft’s current Windows instructions and restore normal startup afterward if the test does not help.
Update Windows and your graphics driver
Install available Windows updates and check for a current graphics driver from your GPU maker. EA’s PC technical troubleshooting guidance calls out driver updates for crashes or graphics problems. Restart Windows after updating, then test the game again. If a driver update coincides with a new problem, note the driver version when you contact support.

If it crashes during play, test frame pacing
For crashes or freezes that occur after gameplay begins, EA suggests capping the frame rate or enabling V-Sync so the frame rate is matched to the display’s refresh rate. Try one setting at a time and see whether the failure changes. EA’s advice is general crash guidance; it does not establish that either setting resolves every Veilguard launch failure.

Collect details before contacting EA
If the PC steps do not resolve the issue, EA recommends checking minimum requirements and updating the graphics driver, then running DxDiag so support can review your system information. Attach the report to an EA support case or forum post, and include:
- Your platform and, on PC, the storefront used to install the game.
- The exact error text, or a note that no error appears.
- When the failure happens: before a game window appears, during startup or loading, or during play.
- Your PC’s key specifications and the graphics driver version, if applicable.
- Which troubleshooting steps you tried and what changed.
