DraftKings and FanDuel both document ways to limit or pause play, and both describe suppressing some promotions when a customer self-excludes—but the available terms do not establish which sportsbook personalizes offers more or provides a standalone marketing opt-out. The concrete comparison is jurisdiction-specific: DraftKings describes account-level deposit limits across its products and additional Fantasy Sports controls, while the FanDuel terms covered here apply to District of Columbia customers.
What can you actually compare?
There is no like-for-like, nationwide comparison in the available operator terms. DraftKings’ help materials describe deposit limits that apply across its products, as well as controls specific to Fantasy Sports. FanDuel’s relevant terms are for its District of Columbia sportsbook. Features, rules, and exact options may differ by location, product, and account.

| Deposit limits | Daily, weekly, or monthly account-level limits across DraftKings products, according to DraftKings support guidance. | The District of Columbia sportsbook terms describe deposit limits; they do not establish a nationwide FanDuel rule. |
| Other activity limits | Fantasy Sports users can set entry-count and entry-fee limits. DraftKings also lists cool-off periods from 3 days to 4 weeks. | The District of Columbia terms describe wager limits, time limits, and account suspension selected by the user for at least 72 hours. |
| Self-exclusion | Listed periods include one year, three years, five years, and lifetime; availability depends on jurisdiction. Shorter Fantasy Sports-only options may apply in specified circumstances. | The District of Columbia terms provide for self-exclusion. The cited terms do not give a comparable list of exclusion durations. |
| Promotions during exclusion | DraftKings says it will not send direct marketing during a self-exclusion period. | The District of Columbia terms say self-exclusion opts the customer out of bonuses and targeted marketing. |
| What happens to account access and funds? | During exclusion, customers cannot log in. Funds remain in the account, and the customer must contact support to request a withdrawal. | The District of Columbia terms say pending wagers are canceled and stakes returned, and describe monthly checks for cashable balances of at least $1. |
These are descriptions of different products and jurisdictions, not evidence that one operator has stronger controls overall. Check the terms and settings shown for your own account and location.

The documented comparison is about what happens when someone self-excludes—not the size, frequency, or selection of ordinary offers. DraftKings says it will stop direct marketing during exclusion. FanDuel’s District of Columbia terms go further in specifically naming both bonuses and targeted marketing as suppressed during exclusion. Those statements do not establish whether either company offers a separate way to opt out of marketing while keeping an account open.

The sources also do not explain the current logic used to select personalized offers, such as which customer information or activity might affect eligibility. They therefore cannot support a reliable claim that DraftKings or FanDuel personalizes promotions more, or that one makes opting out easier outside self-exclusion. Promotion availability, eligibility, and conditions can vary by account and jurisdiction; do not assume an offer is generally available based on another customer’s experience.
What the account controls mean in practice
Deposit, wager, and time limits are different
- A deposit limit caps money added to an account over a selected period. DraftKings describes daily, weekly, and monthly periods and says its limits apply across DraftKings products.
- A wager limit concerns the amount wagered, rather than the amount deposited. FanDuel’s District of Columbia terms describe wager limits alongside deposit limits.
- A time limit concerns time spent using the sportsbook. FanDuel’s District of Columbia terms describe time limits, but the cited material does not establish an equivalent DraftKings sportsbook control with the same scope.
For DraftKings Fantasy Sports specifically, the support page lists state-required monthly entry-fee ceilings of $2,500 in Tennessee, $1,000 in Massachusetts, and $5,000 in Maryland, and says customers may choose lower limits. These are Fantasy Sports figures in the stated state context, not sportsbook-wide limits or a direct comparison with FanDuel.

Cool-off, suspension, and self-exclusion are not interchangeable
DraftKings describes Fantasy Sports cool-off periods ranging from 3 days to 4 weeks. FanDuel’s District of Columbia terms describe a user-selected account suspension of at least 72 hours. Those are pauses; self-exclusion is a separate, more consequential restriction. DraftKings lists exclusion periods of one, three, or five years, or lifetime, while noting that choices depend on jurisdiction. Its page also mentions shorter Fantasy Sports-only exclusions in specified circumstances without establishing a universal duration for those options.

During DraftKings self-exclusion, a customer cannot log in, deposit, enter Fantasy Sports contests, wager, or play casino games. DraftKings says exclusion cannot be shortened and applies across locations. Because the available options depend on jurisdiction, use the choices shown for your account rather than assuming every listed period is available everywhere.

Self-exclusion also affects access, money, and marketing
DraftKings says account funds remain in place during exclusion, but a customer who wants to withdraw must contact support; login is not available during the period. Its help page also says direct marketing will stop. FanDuel’s District of Columbia terms describe a different set of consequences: pending wagers are canceled and stakes returned, cashable balances of at least $1 are handled through a monthly check process, and the customer is opted out of bonuses and targeted marketing. These are jurisdiction-specific terms, so confirm the applicable procedure before starting an exclusion.
What does the public litigation establish about targeting?
DraftKings’ 2025 Form 10-K, filed February 13, 2026, reports that Baltimore sued DraftKings and FanDuel in April 2025. The City alleged that the operators used data to target vulnerable Baltimore users and engaged in deceptive or abusive practices involving promotions, including bonus-bet and no-sweat-bet terms, urgency, and VIP rewards allegedly directed at people with gaming disorders. These are allegations reported in the company filing, not findings of fact or proof of liability.

The filing says the defendants appealed an order remanding the case and that the appeal remained pending after an opening brief was filed on January 28, 2026. That is the procedural status reported in the filing; it does not establish the case’s status on a later date or resolve the allegations. The filing is not evidence of how either company currently selects an individual customer’s offers.

- Check your jurisdiction and product. Review the settings and terms in the sportsbook account you actually use. Fantasy Sports controls and sportsbook controls may not match, and FanDuel’s terms cited here are specific to the District of Columbia.
- Choose the control that matches the risk. A deposit cap limits incoming funds; a wager cap limits betting; a time limit or pause restricts use; self-exclusion is a longer-term restriction with additional effects.
- Read the consequences before confirming. Check what happens to account access, pending wagers, balances, and promotions. For DraftKings exclusion, the stated process requires support to request a withdrawal.
- Use the operator’s published responsible-play guidance. DraftKings advises customers to “Set a time and dollar limit and stick to it,” avoid chasing losses, and treat wagering as entertainment rather than a financial strategy.
If you need a marketing opt-out without excluding yourself, the terms described here do not establish whether either operator offers one. Check account preferences or contact the operator directly; do not treat self-exclusion as a routine promotional setting.
